“Look at you, so wild and vulnerable,” he said gruffly and gripped a handful of my hair and pulled it backward, causing my head to tilt back while his other hand was cupping my breast. I gasped at his sudden roughness. “You’re driving me crazy, Dani. You’re a good distraction. I’d never been so distracted like this that I lost focus with my master plan.” *** TERZO When I took someone’s life, I knew there was no going back. To seek redemption and save my sister from marrying an evil like Francesco Giordani, I have to find his runaway daughter. The job should be easy— bring Dani Souls home by any means necessary. But when life takes an unexpected turn, it’s not always in the right direction. I find myself drawn to her. Seeing her terrified of me, I take it to my advantage. I didn’t give her many options: marry me or marry another monster. My only issue is that she doesn’t know I killed her brother. *** DANI When a tall, dark, and mysterious man steps into my life, I know he’s a made man— extremely dangerous. In a moment of weakness, I shot him. For someone like Terzo Siciliano, a ruthless, unforgiving, and incapable of emotions, whose surname is feared by many, I should be dead by now. Instead, he plays his cards right and lures me into a trap— a marriage for my protection, or he owns my life. While our families are on the verge of a raging war, I feel helpless to resist his devilish charm. But I don’t know which feels much worse, me treading on dangerous waters or uncovering his deceit?

The thick wooden double door swung open to my father’s office. It was one of the biggest rooms in the house where business was discussed and where the most secure safe and panic room were situated, where he kept his most valuable.
I was assaulted by the scents of cedar wood and expensive cigars hung thick in the air.
I let go of a shuddering breath as I stepped inside.
Gaetano Siciliano, the patriarch of the family, the Don— one of the most powerful and feared heads of the mafias in Italian history— my father was sitting in his chair before his massive desk. His thick brows knitted together, hanging low over his dark caramel eyes and gray hair cut stylishly. In his sixties, he was still fit, strong, and could beat me in the ring if he desired to, but he always humbly said his prime was over.
“Figlio.”
“Come va, papa?”
Papa nodded in acknowledgment. “Come in. How’s your sister?”
Standing in the left corner that caught my eye was Celestina, my other beautiful sister, who had been through hell, seemingly in deep thought.
“She’s fine. The boy is popping out a tooth,” I said with glee. “Winston is taking care of them if that’s what you want to hear.”
“Sit down,” he said in a more serious tone.
Without a word, I stole a glance at Celestina as I took a seat before my father. “How are you, Cee?”
I had a feeling that this meeting was crucial. In our world, parents only had children so they could mold us into our roles. Since I was the eldest and the only son, without a doubt, I would be running the family business empire when he retired, but not too soon, I hoped.
“I met Francesco yesterday.”
“Without me?” What the fuck? I stared at my father in disbelief. “Why didn’t you wait until I came home?” I had no doubt our men would die to protect my father, but something didn’t make any sense.
“The meeting is arranged without you, Terzo. I joined Papa.”
“Why?” I turned my head to my sister, who finally decided to join us and sat across me. “I’m the reason why Papa called this meeting in the first place. I was the one who pulled the trigger.”
“Francesco made some demands not to come after you.”
“As if he can.” I snorted, which annoyed my father.
“Don’t be so confident, Terzo. You may have cheated death many times, but we still have enemies who would be glad to take your life and offer your head to him on a silver platter.”
“I’m sorry, Papa. What are his demands?”
“His daughter ran away three months ago. His men had no luck finding her.”
Oh, fuck me now. I had a feeling I knew where this conversation was going. “PI is cheap for a man like him, Papa. I’m sure he can afford to hire the best one in town.”
“He doesn’t only want you to find her.”
I wanted to roll my eyes as I looked my father in the eye. Suddenly, his words during the meeting with Wallace and Moses shot me like a bullet to my chest. I hoped to God I was wrong about this.
“He wants you to bring her to him by any means necessary,” Celestina said.
“Dead or alive?” Why the fuck did he want that? Son of a bitch.
“Alive, of course, brother. What’s wrong with you?” Her eyes narrowed. “We don’t touch women. That’s the line we would never cross.”
“By any means necessary. You said it yourself. So he wants me to kill everyone that comes my way just to bring his spoiled brat little daughter to pay my debt of killing his asshole son. Is that it?”
“Language, Terzo,” Papa grunted. “And enough of killings. That’s why I agreed to his demands, to bring his daughter back home safe.”
“But there’s more to it,” she added.
Francesco Giordani had more demands, but so far, I heard only one, and I felt in my gut that there was a long list to meet. Or I’m fucked.
“Enough. Both of you. Let me talk, Celestina,” Papa spat out as he glared at me and my sister.
“Of course.”
“She’s last seen crossing the Russian border—”
I cursed under my breath.
My father’s eyes narrowed as he continued, “I don’t know what she’s up to. You may need to call Mr. Linden for help or the—”
“The agency can’t help me, Papa, but why would she go to a hostile territory? Is she aware of her father’s line of business or she’s just rebellious and doesn’t give a damn about her life anymore?”
“Not everything, brother.”
“Is she that stupid?”
“No. She’s smart, son. She knows she’s untouchable in Vasilyev’s territory. Francesco hasn’t crossed that line, so Ilya wouldn’t touch her.”
Fuck.
“I want you to be off this blood debt, Terzo. Bring her home, kidnap her, or if she’s with Ilya Vasilyev, make the damn deal no matter how much it costs. If you accomplish this, consider me retired.”
For once, I didn’t want my father to retire.
“Or make her fall for you, take her as your little pet, brother. It wouldn’t be that hard.”
“What made you say that, Cee?”
She raised a brow. “Her American ex-boyfriend is a real doucebag. She’s probably yearning for a charming bad-boy hero to save her day. Good girls always fall for bad boys, brother.”
“You’re crazy.”
“Just suggesting, T. Put that charming face to good use. You might not need more persuasion unless she knows who killed her brother. Then you’re in grave great trouble.”
“Porco—” I rose to my feet and walked to the liquor table. My father did not react, though. He’d seen this coming. I poured a shot of scotch and downed it. Grimacing, I faced them. “What’s her name?”
“Danielle Leone Aristide Giordani, pretty right? But she goes by Dani Souls.”
“Her name alone is already a pain in my ass.”
“Maybe you should marry her, son.”
Fuck me. My back stiffened. I was sure my father saw my reaction. “I’d rather get a bullet to my head. Over my dead, cold body. What else, Papa?”
“That’s all for now. Come home with her, and we’ll talk about what to do next.”
“No, Papa. I need to know now, or let me just kill Francesco, and my headache is over.”
“No more killing. This is also a business alliance, Terzo.”
I breathed through my nose as I put down the empty glass. “This business alliance, Papa, does this involve marriage?”
“Yes.”
Rage rose inside me. “So let me get this clear, if I understand it correctly. I’m going to get that woman and bring her home, marry her for a business alliance to pay my blood debt, or what?”
“Francesco will marry your sister, or I will lose you, Terzo. I don’t want to lose you, son. I don’t want more blood on our hands. I hope you understand the situation you put us in when you took Tomas’ life. You pay the consequences, or Celestina. Your choice.”
“Figlio de puttana! Over my dead fucking body. I’m not gonna put my sister in the same situation again. I’d rather pay it with life than—” I blinked off that memory that flashed before my eyes.
“I’m so sorry, T—”
“No, Cee.” I faced her. For the first time since that incident happened at the compound, she looked shattered. “You don’t ever apologize to me, okay? I will make this right even if it means giving up my freedom.”
“You don’t have to do this.”
“I once promised to keep you safe, and I failed. I also failed to protect Maverick. You don’t have to marry that old stronzo. Get a life, Cee. Get out of this hellhole and heal. Go travel, explore, meet wonderful people, and maybe you’ll meet the right man for you.”
“He’s right, Celestina.”
I turned to my father. “I didn’t regret what I did. He threatened my sister, and I won’t hesitate to do it again. I will always protect this family no matter what, even if I have to pay it with my life, Papa. Since you don’t want more bloodshed, I will do whatever you want, you know that, but not for Francesco Giordani.”
“The marriage might not work out, considering you killed her brother, T.”
“Thanks for putting out the obvious, but you want me to use my bad boy charm and take her as my little pet, right?”
She side-glanced at our father. “I didn’t mean that. It was a joke, but I don’t mind marrying and garroting Francesco on our wedding night.”
“Stay put, sis. Don’t do anything stupid while I’m away. This won’t take long.” If my plan did not work, I might have to take another life or two.
Before I could walk out of the office, my sister called me. “Where are you going?”
“To get that woman.”
TERZO“What did you find out?” I told Katie last night to dig deeper into Deckard Humphries’s life. She was convinced to do it when I told her what happened to Dani. I didn’t tell her the details, but she understood it pretty well.“I should get paid for this,” Katie complained, but still threw the file at me. I knew her well, she wouldn’t take my money because she knew I would do the same thing for her. I would even take a bullet for her. “You can’t kill this man, T. He’s literally untouchable. His father is a big fish.”“No one is untouchable, Katie, even the POTUS. I’m not gonna kill him. I know he has dirt. That’s all I want to know. Everyone has secrets. I wanna dig into his bedroom kinks right to his deepest darkest secrets.”“And then what?”“I wanna invest in his business.”“Oh, God.” She rolled her eyes. “You’re playing with fire. That’s not all. You’re planning on something.”“Maybe, but I can’t tell you right now.”“How’s the girl, by the way?”I smiled. “She called you a s
DANI“You can’t joke about something like that, mafia.” I snorted and sipped my coffee. When I looked at him closely, Terzo didn’t look much like a scary mafia who killed mercilessly for a living. His eyes softened, but stared back at me with all their intensity as if he was about to do something dirty to me. Terzo seemed to have a dual personality that he could shut off when he needed to. He had a soft side and a mysterious and dangerous side. Right now, all I could see was an angel. I almost dropped the coffee cup in my hand and swallowed hard. “Oh, you’re serious.”“I don’t joke about marriage, Danielle.”“It’s Dani. Just Dani.” He started to piss me off, offering me a marriage when I ran away from the very same reason. Was he for real? “Why would you want to marry me? And why will I marry you?”“Since I learned the reality of living a life of a Siciliano, I never wanted to get attached to someone else. I didn’t date for the very same reason because I knew what life I could give
TERZO“Wait. You’re kidding, right?” Katja, or she now preferred to be called Katie, stared at me in disbelief. “Nope. I wish I were.” I called her earlier to meet me at the Bazz, where Maverick used to work before she married Lake. Katie was my old flame. We used to fuck for fun, but we cared for each other as friends. I did her favors, and she did the same. She also had many talents that I found useful in my line of business. She wasn’t just a good lay, but she was also reliable with resources, and she was good with guns and knives. She was a total badass, and just like me, she didn’t do relationships.“First, you got a new sister, and now you’re living with a woman in your apartment.”“Only temporary.” I sipped my scotch. “My sister isn’t new. I’ve known her for years. Knowing how dangerous our world is, I’ve considered many scenarios before I introduced my life to her.”“So tell me about this new girl.”“It’s complicated. I killed her brother, and she doesn’t know it.”“Shit, T.
DANII didn’t know a life of a mafia made a decent living and seemed normal. Of course, they made a lot of money. They laundered money. They sold drugs and guns. They trafficked humans. Terzo was driving a 2024 Chevy Malibu, way better than the car I drove before I left my old life. As we drove through the busy city street, I thought of how to ask about our living arrangement. I wanted to know the mysterious Terzo Siciliano. I wanted to know his intentions on why he went through this great length and got shot just to take me with him.“Did my father owe you a huge load of money?”“No.”“Do you owe my father a debt?”He barely looked at me before he focused his attention back on the busy street. “Then what is it that you want from me?”I got nothing but silence. “I want to get some things from my apartment.”“I’ll buy anything you need.”“I don’t want you to spend money on me. I still have clothes from my apartment.”He seemed to reconsider what I said and sighed. He turned right,
TERZODani was already on her feet before I could get close to her. She looked terrified, but the first thing I saw was the bruise on her chin. I did long strides and held her face. “Who the fuck did this to you?”She hissed, turning her face away from me. She looked like she’d been crying. I could still see the horror in her eyes, which reminded me of the look on my sisters. They both had been through a lot. It seemed like it turned into patterns whenever there were women getting into my life. They all got hurt.“Dani, I will only ask you once, or I will scour the places you went to since you arrived. Who did this to you?” Guilt and regret were overwhelming as the thought of her trying to escape the inescapable horror.“I’m fine. I just fell on my face.” She swallowed hard. Pain flared in her eyes as she looked away. “Do you really expect me to believe that you fell on your face? I haven’t talked to Linden about the details of how you got in here, and I will get that story whether
“Please, help me! I need your help!”“Hey.” There was a pause, a moment of silence, before a deep, husky male voice came to the speaker again. “Calm down. You should call 911.”“No, please, don’t hang up—” I gasped and jolted up in bed, disoriented as I felt a large hand gripping my shoulder and shaking me lightly. “Hey,” said the giant man, the size of Volk, standing before me. He was a few years older than Terzo, but he looked trustworthy in his dark blue suit and tie.My eyes landed on the semi-opened hotel room. He seemed instinctive and noticed my cynicism and mistrust.“You called my phone earlier this morning. I’m Gabe Linden.” He offered his large hand. I immediately recognized his voice before he connected to the other line, wherever it was that saved my life. I swallowed hard as I hesitantly shook his hand. He gripped it tightly and warmly before he smiled. “You can trust me. Whoever gave you my number just saved your life.” He must have noticed my bruises on my chin and
