Chapter 3

Sophia had a restless night. She wasn't able to fall asleep, not after the experience of that morning.

She kept being dazed by her own memories. Every time she remembered those steel blue eyes peering back at her from with the shadows of the imposing man, her heart would beat faster in her chest and her pupils would dilate.

She had a longing feeling for Ethan that she had never experienced so it was quite strange. She had had crushes before but they had all been on a subtle level. None of her previous crushes had this much effect on her.

She couldn't get the image of Ethan Delacroix out of her mind. That enticing demon of a man stalked her in her dreams.

She wanted to forget him, but she couldn't. She didn't understand what she was feeling. Was this what people described as love at first sight?

As the night progressed, she eventually managed to drift off into slumber while having fantasy dreams of Ethan and a perpetual smile adorned her face as she slept...

"Oh shit!" Sophia vigorously rubbed her eyes open when she noticed a ray of light shining through a small opening of her curtains.

Of course, she woke up very late the next day. She checked the time and shot out of her bed to prepare for work.

She got dressed and prepared a quick breakfast with great speed. A minor observation would reveal that Sophia was the kind of girl who was quite consistent with waking up late. So she had developed the skills needed for rushing to work whenever she got late.

After downing a hot cup of coffee without flinching and eating a few slices of toast bread, she headed out of her house.

"Should I go with this bike today?" She questioningly muttered to herself as she eyed her motorcycle which rested in her tiny balcony.

The motorbike belonged to her, it was something she had bought herself from the money her late mother had saved up for her. Every time she rode the bike, she remembered her loving mother.

"Not today." Sophia shook her head slightly and boarded a taxi to get her to her company.

After she arrived at the company, she hastily headed straight for the manager's office without wasting time.

"I'm so sorry for coming late. I swear I didn't hear my alarms..." She pleaded immediately upon walking into the office without even waiting to hear what her boss would say or understand the situation. When she saw it, her words trailed off.

"Isn't that what you always say?" A soft but stern voice answered Sophia quietly.

"It's really not the same situation..." Sophia tried to explain.

"I'm not spending another precious morning to argue about this. There's more important things to attend to." Sophia's boss replied dismissively and motioned for Sophia to sit down.

"Hello Sophie." Maya greeted, she was occupying one of the two seats that were before the boss's table. The boss pointed to the other one that was empty for Sophia to seat.

Sophia felt a bit nervous. "What's going on Maya, did you forget to make the report?" She asked Maya with a soft whisper and Maya simply shook her head with a faint smile.

"You didn't report after work yesterday, Sophia." The boss said with a stern gaze as she watched Sophia seat down with a little bit of agitation.

Their boss was a woman who appeared to be in her forties, she had a motherly aura around her but was also very strict and disciplined.

Her stark black pupils were fixed on Sophia who trembled slightly.

"I... Um... Maya said she would report..." Sophia stuttered as struggled to defend herself but stopped and grew confused when she saw her boss smirk. From the corner of her eyes, she could also notice Maya's mouth twitching.

"Maya told me about your little experience, young lady." The boss said with a teasing smirk while Maya turned her head away in an attempt to hide the laughter that was threatening to burst from her mouth.

"Aisha, please don't take Maya seriously." Sophia pleaded with tired eyes.

It seems her boss wasn't pissed at her. She knew what kind of funny and mischievous story Maya could have narrated for their boss, Aisha.

"Why shouldn't I believe her?" Aisha asked with a playful grin. "I don't think Maya has any reason to lie."

"She probably exaggerated it..." Sophia muttered.

She turned her head to glare at Maya who covered her mouth with her palm while trying so hard to stifle her laughter.

Aisha laughed softly at the comical scene in front of her. She was quite fond of the two young women who seemed quite close with each other. So she enjoyed their company more often than other employees. It's also why they were quite relaxed and comfortable around her.

"Alright now. I've got great news for the both of you." Aisha spoke up, drawing the attention of the two ladies to herself.

Maya's eyes sparkled with curiosity while Sophia had a more skeptical expression on her face. Judging by how Aisha was still smiling, she had suspicions about the new information she was about to receive.

"Tell us!" It was Maya, she looked enthusiastic, but Sophia cast her a glance and snorted...

"We received an extended contract deal with the client you both worked for yesterday. And the Client specifically requested for the both of you."

Aisha's eyes were focused on Sophia as she wanted to guage Sophia's reaction.

There was a bit of silence.

"What?!" It was Sophia who exclaimed in confusion. In that brief moment, she temporarily forgot that Aisha was her boss and almost stood up from her seat to grab Aisha's shirt and demand for a more thorough explanation.

"It's the Delacroix family. They want to hire you both as maids for a period of time." Aisha explained with a big grin.

"What?" Even Maya had the same expression of disbelief.

"There's no way!" Sophia adamantly refused.
