Chp 2 Pt. 1 Inheritance

Maliyah

I still have two more weeks until school starts and today mom and dad said they want to give me a surprise. They were suppose to when I returned from my date with Aspen but with what has happened they’ve been busy trying to track whoever has been watching me.

“Hey sweetheart. You ready for your surprise,” asks dad as he gives me a hug.

“I’ve been ready.”

“Alright let’s get in the truck, your mother is waiting for us.”

I give dad a quizzical look as I follow him out the door.

“Where are we going,” I ask.

“You’ll see,” says mom as dad begins to drive out of the pack territory.

I watch the trees go by as we continue into the human town and pull up to Ortiz’s Place.

“We getting something to eat first?”

“Something like that,” says dad.

I am so confused. I follow them into the restaurant and find cousin River and his mate Katherine busy running the place.

“Hey aunt Davina. Does she know yet?”

“Not yet River but we are ready to tell her.”

“Tell me what?”

“Maliyah I want to give you control of the restaurant. You’ll have partial control for now and full control once you graduate high school,” says mom.

I start at her in shock. This was her parent’s restaurant. We grew up here and I have many fond memories of coloring and getting chocolate milkshakes after school. Tears pool in my eyes as I embrace my mother.

“I don’t know what to say mom. Thank you.” I move to hug dad and then an idea pops in my head. “Does this mean I can move into the apartment?”

River and his mate have moved back onto the pack territory since they had Summer and wanted more space in case they have more pups so the apartment has sat empty for a few years.

“Your father and I have had a long discussion about this given the circumstances. We will let you move into the apartment. Your guards are going to be in the condo across the street that belonged to uncle Gabriel and the place has been spelled to prevent anyone you don’t want from entering the apartment.”

I forgot we still had the condo. Mom thought about selling it many times but could never bring herself to do it. It too has sat empty for years.

“There is one condition though,” says dad. I should’ve saw this coming.

“Anything.”

“Keep your grades up and if there is any sign of danger or you feel you are being watched you tell your guards and us immediately.”

“Done!”

I snatch the keys from dad and race upstairs. I start making a list of things I’ll need for my apartment. This is perfect. The apartment is closer to the school and I’ll have my restaurant to come eat lunch whenever I want. I look around the apartment and find that I’ll be quite lonely here and wonder if the twins’ parents will let them move in with me. We will all be eighteen this year though I have to wait until July.

“Hey mom, do you think Dimitri would give Olivia and Oliver permission to live with me? It’d be nice to have roommates.”

“I high doubt Oliver is going to want to share a room with his sister,” laughs dad.

“True but they are coven members. Can’t they just use a spell to make the apartment seem bigger and add a bedroom?”

I know it can be done, Olivia told me that is what they do in their homes. They seem tiny on the outside but are much bigger on the inside.

“If Dimitri and the twins’ parents are fine with it, we are as well,” says mom.

I burst into a squeal and hugs my parents. I quickly mind link the twins as I see mom who is probably mind linking Dimitri.

‘Oliver! Olivia!’

‘Do you have to scream? We can hear you just fine,” whines Oliver.

‘Sorry, but I have the best news!’

‘Spill already,’ says Olivia.

‘My parents gave me partial control of Ortiz’s Place and I get to move into the apartment. How would you guys like to spell it to add another bedroom and bathrooms for everyone and move in with me?’

Olivia let’s out a squeal and now I know my parents felt.

‘Let us ask our parents.’

While I wait for Olivia and Oliver, mom helps me pick out furniture online and set up delivery so that at least the big stuff is out of the way. We could’ve shopped for everything online but that would ruin the fun of shopping.

Suddenly, Dimitri, Oliver, Olivia and their parents appear in the apartment. My parents talk to their parents to ensure their safety while Olivia and Oliver prepare to spell the place.

“I’m so excited they said yes,” says Olivia.

The room slowly shifts and appears bigger as another bedroom appears and bathrooms are linked to each bedroom for privacy. The twins’ bedrooms are on one side of the apartment while mine is on the other.

“Alright, now to decorate,” says Olivia as she begins a spell but I stop her.

“Oh no. We do this the old fashion way. It’s time to do some shopping.”

“Can I least use magic to paint it? I don’t really don’t want to do that.”

I giggle and agree. I’d rather not do the painting part and the apartment could use a new coat of paint.

“Alright, you three know the rules and we better not get a call from the school that you are absent or tardy. If that becomes an issue you won’t be able to live here,” says dad.

“Yes sir,” the twins reply.

“Yes daddy.”

The twins hug their parents and thank Dimitri for giving them permission. I give Dimitri a hug as well before the adults leave us to decorate. Since uncle Gabriel died, Dimitri has become like an uncle to me and checks in on me frequently. I knew he wouldn’t say no.

“Alright, the furniture will be here tomorrow thanks to rush shipping. Let’s go shopping for everything else.”

With my guards following us, I take my mother’s Jeep and head to the mall. I’ve been on high alert since last time we were here we were being followed but I don’t let that ruin my fun.

I swear we’ve hit every store we can. We’ve bought throw pillows, curtains, doorway beads, dish set, pots and pans, rugs and more. We even bought a huge sixty-five inch tv for the living room. I realize that not all of this is going to fit in the car.

“Maliyah let us just teleport this stuff to the apartment. That way we don’t have to haul it up the stairs either.”

I agree since we don’t have much of a choice. I drive Jeep back to the restaurant while the twins take everything with them.

“Hey Maliyah, are you free tomorrow,” asks River as I enter the restaurant.

“Yeah, what’s up?”

“Katherine and I would like to show you the ropes of the restaurant. As part owner, you should know how it’s run.”

“I’d love that. You guys willing to continue to manage it? If I eventually move to the elf realm, I’ll need someone to run it.”

“We’d love to Maliyah.”

Since the war, River has refused to become a warrior in the pack. Instead, he just wants a simple job and live his life with his family. Unlike aunt Katerina, River didn’t inherit any silver dragon powers.

“Okay, I’ll be here first thing to help open up!”
