You Killed Them

Eric came back from the cottage where he was getting dressed. He could not wait to see Maria and get his gift. She told him that it was something he always wanted, and he could not wait to see what it was.

When he got inside, he could not see any of the pack leaders. At the door was the gamma and his mate welcoming the guests as they arrived. “Good you are here, please get your parents to come down here, the guests are starting to ask questions.” The gamma told Eric.

He wondered what could be keeping his parents, he nodded at the gamma and walked away. But just as he was thinking about where to go look first, the most amazing scent hit his nostrils and she stood there and inhaled deeply.

It was like nothing he has ever smelled before; he could not describe how it made him feel and he could not wait to see who the scent belonged to. What she looked and felt like in his arms.

With a smile on his face, he followed the scent up the stairs, his heart beating fast in anticipation. But he was not prepared for the sight he saw when he got up those stairs. “What the fuck is going on!” he bellowed.

He rushed to stop his father. He shoved them aside then gave Maria another punch on the gut making her bend over coughing violently. “Dad, what are you doing!” he yelled in frustration. He did not understand why his father would treat Maria that way.

He liked Maria, he wondered what could have happened for him to act that way. “Dad please!” Alpha Jackson stopped and looked at his son. He saw the confusion in his eyes and a little sadness.

He walked towards his son taking long strides. He held him by the collar and dragged him to the room. “Look at what she did! She killed your mother and her father. My beta. This thing is a monster!” the alpha bellowed in anger pointing a finger at Maria, accusing her of doing the most despicable thing in the world.

A child killing her father. “It can’t be, there must be a mistake.” Eric said feeling weak to his knees. He could not believe his best friend could do something like that. He grew up with Maria, went to school together even though she finished a year early as she was a year older than him.

He glanced at the room once again, his mother’s eyes were open and looking right at him. She was still naked with the beta by his side. No one bothered to cover them as Maria froze when she found them, and the alpha was fueled by anger instead of covering them.

“How can you say that when I saw her with my own eyes?” the alpha spat, Maria looked at him with her eyes widening in shock. Eric looked at her, hoping that she would say something, but Maria was too shocked by the accusation to even think or respond to defend herself.

She looked at Eric then shook her head; she was trying to speak but words could not come out. Eric gave her a cold, chilling look before turning around and leaving. Maria had no strength and just sat on the ground.

She could not believe what was happening, it felt like a dream to her. Her father was dead, and she was accused of killing him and her best friend looked at her like she was a murderer.

She needed her mother, she needed someone who would believe her. She tried to stand up so she could go and talk to her mother. Nothing seemed real for her at that moment. She felt like she was dreaming, and she needed someone to wake her up.

Just as she got on her feet the alpha called for the guards “Guards! Take her to the cells.” Alpha Jackson ordered. The guards were not far since it was a party, and they wanted their guests to be safe.

Now they were being ordered to put their future beta in the cells, they were curious and wanted to know what happened but too afraid to ask their alpha. They shared looks as they held her on both sides.

They knew that if she wanted to, Maria could take them on and beat them. But for some reason she was not fighting. She had a small gift box still tuck in her hand. Through all the beating she took Maria never let go of the box.

Maybe it gave her some sort of calm or maybe it was instinct that she should protect it but when the guards took her away, she was still holding it. “Take her through the back, we don’t want our guests to know what is going on.” Alpha Jackson ordered.

“Yes, alpha.” The guards said in unison. Maria felt numb and did not know what was real and what was not. The guards took her through the back door and straight to the cells in the dungeon. The smell of mold, blood, wolfbane and urine filled Maria’s nose and she knew that it was not a dream. That it was all real.

Her father was dead, and she was accused of killing him. Just as she was starting to get back to her senses, the guards threw her into the cell and locked it behind her. “One of you please, find my mother and tell her what is happening. Tell her I want to see her so that I can explain.” She begged the guards.

The two men shared a look, they did not know why their future beta was being locked up, but the alpha seemed angry, and they could not do anything to anger him more. They figure whatever it is she did, it will be solved by the alpha and her family.

That they need not get themselves involved in whatever it was that was happening or happened. They were mere guards and could not do anything that goes against the alpha. “I am sorry Maria, but we can’t do that, but don’t worry, this will all be sorted soon. It is just a misunderstanding I believe.”

The older warrior said sounding sympathetic, Maria knew it was a long shot and she knew this was no misunderstanding and it won’t be resolved just like that. Her father and the Luna were dead, and she was accused of killing them.

But why would the alpha accuse her of such and even go as far as to say that he saw her kill them. Could it be that he was the one who killed them? No, Maria refused to believe or even think about that.

Alpha Jackson and her father got along just fine. Some people even thought they were brothers. Then he and the Luna were the best couple the pack has ever seen. The best leaders and role models. So, why would he kill his Luna? Killing one’s mate drives the remaining one crazy, so there was no way the alpha could have killed his Luna.

Maria thought it was absurd. There was no way, but then who did it? That was the question in Maria’s head as she sat there, who could have killed her father and the Luna? Why were they naked together in bed?

Were they having an affair or was the crime scene staged to look that way? But why? Her head hurt just by thinking of it and all the questions she had and did not have answers to. Her mind went to her best friend, Eric. How he must be feeling and thinking.

She hoped he would go and see her so that she could explain to him. Tell him what happened and that she was innocent. She believed Eric knew her well enough to know that she would never do something like that.

But who could actually know what is in the mind of a grieving heart? Eric was grieving and not thinking straight. All he wanted was to have his mother back but since he could not have that then he was willing to settle for the next best thing.

Revenge and hope that it would be enough to fill the hole inside. He was like a zombie dead inside walking down those stairs.

Some alpha’s wanted to congratulate him on his day, but Eric ignored the alphas and other people trying to talk to him. He left the hall and went to Maria’s house. He met her mother as she was coming out of the house. She smiled at him and that smile soon vanished when she saw the look on Eric’s face.

Fear engulfed her as she tried to speak “Eric…” Eric slit her throat with his claw stopping her from saying whatever she wanted to say.
