“I, Leo Maxwell, Alpha of the Black Storm Pack, reject you, Maya Veneto, as my mate. I hereby declare Quinn Callahan as my true mate, mother of my child and Luna of the Black Storm Pack!”
Suddenly, the good news developing in my womb turned into a heavy burden and I wanted to fall on my knees under the weight of the invisible chains of ill fate as the mate bond broke and the mate mark on my neck burned to nothingness.
Tears threatened to fall down but I kept my chin up as I accepted the rejection, wordless vows of revenge on my lips. I might be an omega, but I was the daughter of a powerful Alpha and I was going to act like one.
I did not know where things went wrong or when everything started to fall apart, but it was evident that my two years of mated life was doomed from the very start, since Leo’s childhood sweetheart returned to the pack last year.
When the Alpha called an assembly of all the pack members and the council, I thought that the great news of my pregnancy had spilled out. However, the joyous occasion turned into a nightmare of rejection ceremony!
“Greetings to the Alpha!” A warrior bowed. “The head doctor is required in the emergency room right now. Our victorious soldiers have arrived and some of them need immediate attention.”
Victorious? Soldiers? And why were they asking for me in the middle of this humiliating ceremony?
“Are there any survivors?” Leo asked.
An unfamiliar feeling of dread suddenly enveloped me. Maybe it was the malice in my ex-mate’s tone that made the hairs at the back of my neck rise but, I couldn’t tell for sure. Leo had changed for the worse.
“No, Alpha. The warriors are waiting for you and the doctor to torch their bodies on the funeral grounds. However, our soldiers need immediate medical attention.”
“Great. Take the good doctor with you. I will join soo- … Maya! Where do you think are you going?” Leo shouted after me as I dashed towards the funeral grounds. I was hit by wave after wave of familiar scents but my legs didn’t stop till my eyes confirmed what my olfactory senses told. I couldn’t even begin to tell you how nauseous I felt at the moment.
I stopped short when my legs halted in front of them.
A voiceless scream burst out of me and that was the last time anyone heard my voice.
The funeral grounds were home to my home…my sweet home.
“No hard feelings, Maya, but we needed the land and your father did not agree to a dowry for our upcoming nuptials. If only he was not a greedy and selfish man, and you had chosen to accept the title after him,” Leo shook his head as if it was our fault and he had no other way to solve his problems. “Anyways,” he brushed off the matter, “At least with the new lands of the White Fall Pack joining ours, my heir will not have to worry about acquiring new territories. This reminds me I have been meaning to tell you that I have been in love with Quinn for a long time. That poor girl sacrificed so much for the pack and me. It was only the right thing to do to marry her after she got pregnant with my child. I hope you understand what I did and why I did it. I still love you though.”
How dare he? He played with my heart, killed our love, took my respect, stripped me off my honour and title, finally, took away my home!
Standing over the lifeless body of my alpha father, I closed my eyes and raised my face towards the thundering clouds as mother nature wept with me. Betrayal and anger marred my chest left and right, but it was not my mate who topped the list of hated beings.
I, Maya Veneto, ask you, the Moon Goddess, to tell me what sins did I do to deserve this?
A sharp stinging pain erupted in the pit of my stomach and I immediately wrapped an arm around it. I could not bear this. He broke my mind, body and soul in one day. My own mate betrayed me!
I looked behind me and mentally apologized to my unborn baby.
‘Mommy is so sorry but mommy loves you, sweetheart. I hope we have a better life next time.’
With that, I looked down the cliff where the waterfall roared to life and swept away everything in its wake. Often the waterfall made me nostalgic about my home, but this was going to be my deathbed. I could not bear to keep even one foot on Leo’s land anymore.
I backed towards the edge of the cliff and smiled at a surprised Leo. I mouthed the words that I had been dying to say since yesterday, “I am pregnant,” and his eyes widened in shock as I fell backwards.
I loved him and gave him my all but he still did not find it enough and took everything from me. Just…everything.

Maya’s POV“BUT I DEMAND A FORMAL INVESTIGATION IN THE MATTER.”My pulse roared in my ears.It was HIM!I forgot to breathe. His sharp gaze, oozing danger turned soft, almost pleading when his eyes met mine.My mind raced back to his last parting words:“If you ever find yourself in any kind of trouble, find me. Find Sebastian Longstone, Prince of the Golden Lycan Pack. See you soon, Belle. Don’t forget this beast.”Every mysterious word, every whisper, every stolen scent that haunted my dreams, it all clicked into place.I shivered.Because standing before me wasn’t just the wounded boy who had begged for help, trying to save someone he loved despite the dangerous risks he took. No. Standing in the boy’s stead was a man. A powerful man.He had transformed, nay, ascended. The mysterious figure who held me with those magnificent, tattooed arms like bands of steel in the most dire times was actually the most radiant, dangerously handsome man I had ever seen. He was drop dead gorgeous, o
Maya’s POVI overslept.I jumped out of bed, fearing the worst.I was late for the Luna Trials. I did not even know if I would make it on time for whatever was planned for today.“Look at you, lazy as always. Late for something, dear?”I crashed into the worst person possible.Leo did not change. He was as ungrateful as before. I woke up before dawn every morning just to cater to his needs so that everything was ready before he woke up and I left for the infirmary. Clearly, he had taken me for granted. His mere presence irked me. Thinking of this ungrateful murderer made my blood boil. Not wanting to get into trouble for harming an Alpha guest in the palace, I tried to sidestep him and run to the designated venue. However, he caught my wrist and forced me against a pillar.“My mate,” he rasped, catching my wrists in one hand and forcing them above my head. “I missed you,” he nosed his way into my neck, trying to scent me and find his mark.I tried to push the big and burly man away bu
Maya’s POV“How come the haughty princess is still allowed to participate in the Luna Trials?” Valerie huffed, helping me reorganize the supply cart.I shrugged. Royal privileges, I guessed.I stifled a yawn. I was dead tired.Inside the quiet medical tent, I rocked the triplets’ bassinet gently as they finally drifted into sleep. The poor babies hadn’t shut their eyes all night. Yet, despite the chaos, they hadn’t cried once, staying silently tucked together while I patched up soldier after soldier.Watching their tiny chests rise and fall so peacefully tugged at something tender in my heart. They were so little yet so understanding.I moved towards the medicine cabinet, clearing away the empty vials and syringes. I wanted to dispose the bio-waste myself before anyone got ideas about tampering. After recent events, I trusted no one with my tools and medicines.“And why is she allowed to participate in the Luna Trials in the first place?” Carl asked.“What do you mean?” Valerie asked,
Maya’s POVI worked through the night without pause, my hands steady even as exhaustion tried to crawl its way up my spine. Dawn was breaking when I finally removed my gloves, my fingers trembling from overuse. The last patient had been stabilized. My feet screamed for rest, but I remained standing.A shadow fell across the tent.“How many fatalities?” Zane’s voice rang out, his stature authoritative and voice commanding. I was witnessing him in his element for the first time.He looked every inch the warrior Beta, the playful sarcasm scrubbed clean by the battlefield. He stood tall, blood-splattered armor still on, his face grim but alert. This was the first time I had seen him like this. No jokes. No smirks. Just raw command. He had certainly earned his position as the Beta of the most powerful kingdom. He had singlehandedly led the troops to victory within a few hours despite the surprise attack.I lifted my fingers and signed quickly. Zero.He blinked, uncertain he had understood.
Maya’s POVI woke with a start in the middle of the night.Mother’s instincts. There was an intruder in my room.I quietly got up and cautiously walked towards the triplets’ crib but stopped just in time.“Shshh, it’s ok, baby. Daddy is here. I love you. Yes, yes, you,” the most powerful beast of the Supernatural Kingdom was cooing at my babies as if they were truly his.Leo, on the other hand, never claimed them despite being their birth father. He had misled the people into thinking that I had relations with someone wild. My heart cracked on thinking about the comments passed on my loose character and my dear pups.“You should be sleeping, dear,” came the voice from the dark. How I wish I could reply at that moment. Helpless, I just nodded as if he could see me in the dark and turned back to go to bed. I wanted to cry all my troubles out. Sometimes I felt that I was a misfit in every situation and amongst all kinds of people.Without a wolf, my injuries did not heal. I sat beside th
Maya’s POVThe King’s retirement to his private quarters and Athena’s public demotion only pushed the public to vote blindly for her. She was their favorite. Their golden girl. Their fragile phoenix. And me?Only knife-like glares were directed my way. None of them even dared to step into my stall as if I was straight up cursed.Quinn sauntered past, venom dripping from her lips. She smugly remarked, “No one wants you, Maya. Look at you. Idling away like a dumb housewife. The goddess knows which mutt fathered those ugly pups,” she tipped her head to the side towards Carl’s arms.“You – … ” Valerie started, rage flooding her features. I cut off Valerie with a soft squeeze on her shoulder.“No.” I shook my head at her. Quinn did not deserve even our attention, let alone waste words one her.“You are too soft. These piranhas won’t just bite. They will strip you to the bone,” she sighed. “You should do something about this, Maya-aaa-aaaahhhh – mhmmm,” she moaned in delight as I put in a m
