When Polly woke up, it was already dark outside. She saw her mother’s unimpressed look and her heart sank. She didn’t like her nagging.
“How are you feeling?” Her mom’s tone wasn’t even comforting. It sounded reprimanding instead.
Her hand automatically reached for her neck and she began to tear up.
The older woman sighed, “Alpha wants to speak with you. Should I inform him? Can you talk to him in your current condition?”
Polly sniffed, “I’m fine. I can talk to him.”
“Alright. I’ll get you food, then I’ll go find him. You must be hungry.”
She almost smiled. Her mom has an odd way of showing she cares. They’re not exactly close but she’s still their only child. She’s a bit of a rebel, doing what she wants and not listening to everything her parents want for her. Other than that, she’s quite obedient.
Sab was the first to show up while she’s finishing a bowl of meaty porridge.
“I’ve been meaning to visit you. It’s good that you’re awake now. How are you feeling?” Their Luna sat near her bed.
“I’m alright.” Polly replied before they exchanged a grimace.
“I’m so sorry.” Sab couldn’t help but think of her future.
“It’s not your fault.” The younger woman tried to assure her.
“He marked you. You won’t be able to have a different mate.” Sab spoke after a short silence and directly addressed the issue.
Polly took a deep breath before intertwining her fingers.
“What you think of him?” Sab wanted to know what she’s thinking.
“H-he’s . . . scary.” Polly scrunched up her face after saying that. Though the man’s face was handsome and attractive, his aura is just frightening. His gaze could kill a person.
“How’s the bond? What are you feeling towards him?” Sab was genuinely curious. Even when she already loves Clyde, when she felt the bond, she still had that urge to approach the man. Although it was minute, diminished by her own feelings, it was still there.
At the mention of the bond, her eyes constricted. Her heart began to beat faster. She took deep breaths to calm herself. She’s not sure what to say. It’s unfair that she’s still attracted to the man. She fell into contemplation and Sab waited patiently. Through the link, she already told Clyde not to rush. It’s best to give Polly enough time to think.
He’s her mate, though. That is a fact. Under different circumstances, she would probably be happy to find her mate. What she wanted was to properly fall in love . . .
What she wanted was a simple meeting. They would introduce themselves to each other. They would go on a walk and talk, ask personal questions and discuss their views about certain issues. They would slowly grow closer, developing actual feelings and becoming intimate. There’s a whole process, alright? That bastard skipped them all and went straight to marking her. What the freak? It was really frustrating. She wanted romance. She wanted to be swept off her feet. She wanted to be charmed silly.
Jared, huh? He must be used to getting what he wants, whenever he wanted it. Why must her mate be someone like him? Sure, an alpha is a high qualification and very few women get to be their fated mates.
She lightly shook her head. That’s not what’s important right now. He already marked him. She glanced at Sab. It felt a little weird realizing their Luna’s previous fated mate is now her fated mate.
Could she live with it? Can they actually make it work and become proper mates? She doesn’t know much about him. How are they going to proceed?
“Do you want him to be punished or are you going to give him a chance? Actually, we believe his father is going to punish him whatever you decide. He needs to acknowledge that what he did was wrong.” Sab probed again, worried because the younger woman hasn’t said a thing yet.
“What should I do?” Polly ended up asking her. Her head is a mess. She hates him because of what he did, but she’s still drawn to him because of the bond.
Sab shook her head as a tiny smile appeared on her lips. “This is your decision to make. Do what you want. Just ask yourself if you could live with the consequences, that you won’t regret it.”
Polly quietly stared at her and sighed. “If . . . if I don’t want to have anything to do with him, will Snow Mountain ban him? He’s the next alpha of Blood Moon, right? He’ll surely demand that I go with him, but I don’t want to leave this place . . .”
This is one of the reasons why she wanted an ordinary werewolf to be her mate. She can demand that they live in Snow Mountain. It’s close to impossible for an incoming alpha to accommodate such a request.
“You don’t want him, then?” Sab wanted to confirm.
Polly couldn’t, though. It’s her one chance at having a mate. The mark on her neck would prevent her from having another.
It was then that Clyde showed up with Wade. Polly wondered who he was before being introduced and understanding his role in all this.
In her mind, she was curious . . . would the two packs’ relationship be strained because of this incident? Somehow, she knew the answer is no. They’re going to compromise. They’ll come up with a resolution that’s acceptable to both parties. Her parents soon entered the room as well.
Clyde introduced Wade to them and the older man apologized once again for his son’s actions.
The other alpha thought it would be best to properly explain his son’s actions and personality.
“Jared is . . . hard-headed and has a short temper. When he decides to do something, he just does it. Given last year’s incident, he has become very sensitive to the topic of mates. His temper has worsened.” Wade turned to Polly.
“I’ve heard you were there when it happened. Don’t think I’m trying to justify what he has done earlier. I’m merely trying to explain what might have prompted him to do so. What he did was wrong, no question about that. I’m guessing your reaction might have triggered him into thinking you’re going to reject him so he took extreme means to tie you together. I wouldn’t say his intention was good but at the very least, I know my son. He’d been looking forward to meeting his mate. He may be intimidating and have violent tendencies towards men, but I know he would treat his mate properly. He’d been very respectful of his mother and grandmother. He would treat you the same. You don’t need to fear him. If you have a strong personality, I’m sure you can bend him to your will. Make him listen to you.”
Her parents didn’t want to be disrespectful of the alpha, so they chose to remain silent. Their daughter is already of age. She can make her own decisions.
Through the man’s words, Polly can somewhat understand the direction they wanted to tackle. She pursed her lips. She’s going to give him a chance but she has conditions of her own.
“I . . . I’m not ready to leave this place. If I’m going to get to know him, I would like it to happen here, in our pack, where I’m comfortable and I know everyone would have my back.” She let her response hang, wondering if they would agree to what she’s about to request.
“I would say that’s a good idea. You’ll be assured that he won’t be able to do anything inappropriate against you.” Sab spoke when the others didn’t.Clyde stared at the older man, who seemed to be contemplating for quite a while now.“Let Jared stay here for a while. It’s the least he can do. If they decide to move forward with their relationship, Polly is going to move into your pack. A short period of staying here is nothing compared to spending the rest of her life there, a place completely unknown to her.” He voiced out his suggestion, backing her thought.Polly sighed in relief; thankful they understood what she wanted to happen.Alpha Wade grimaced before quickly changing his expression. He looked very serious. “Consider it done. I’ll have him stay here for a while.”He’s beginning to lose hope that Jared would still change for the better. With him temporarily gone from Blood Moon, he can reorganize his pack and give more responsibilities to James. See if the people would prefe
“One month, Jared.”“No!” He couldn’t accept it. What is he do for a month in this place? He felt unsettled, thinking how he would have to let go of his usual duties. He likes being in control and knowing everything that occurs in the pack. He enjoys ordering people around and enforcing the rules he had set. He likes to be organized and chaotic at the same time. Seeing his men scramble to get things done fuel him with a desire to continue down that path. He likes fighting, proving to everyone that he’s the strongest man in Blood Moon. Anyone who dared to question him before were all beaten down and forced to submit to his authority. He has set the standards and made them train harder. He’d seen the progress and how each man has gotten stronger. He would take the credit and say it’s because of him. He did well and he’s proud of that. All the other issues in the pack, he deliberately ignored them. To him, they were irrelevant.“You will. I’ll give you time to adjust your mindset. You’ll
His expression remained cold and unyielding. He was escorted into the conference room. He was the first to arrive and he waited half an hour before two men entered the room. Clyde’s lip twitched. Jared didn’t even stand to greet them, not even a nod or a hello. Polly’s father pursed his lips in annoyance. He doesn’t like the demeanor of this bastard. He’s clearly a proud one and most likely arrogant. Clyde cleared his throat before taking a seat, “This is Patrick, Polly’s dad. Patrick, this is Jared, Alpha Wade’s eldest son.” Jared’s not sure what to say. He squinted before nodding in acknowledgement. Clyde could only sigh. Man, they’re expecting the guy to immediately apologize for what he did, but here we are . . . the man has no words to say and he doesn’t look sorry at all. A couple more minutes of silence ensued before Patrick huffed in disbelief. He let out a short laugh in a mocking tone. Jared didn’t like the sound of that. “Come on, Jared. What do you have to say?” Clyde
Jared pursed his lips. Well, that’s a lot to think about. He would admit he hasn’t looked at it that way. When he brings her to Blood Moon, he expects her to act like the rest of them. Yes, maybe what a traditional woman does at home. But then again, she’s supposed to be his Luna. She can do whatever she wants. If there’s anything she wants to get involved in, she has the freedom to do it.He scrunched up his face and Clyde was somewhat glad to see the changes in his expression. They sat there in silence, considering their options. Now that the conference is over and the guests have left, the news of what he did has slowly spread within their pack. Understandably, most, if not all, are angry at him. Clyde wondered if Jared would be safe if he walks outside all alone. Well, he should be strong enough to take down his opponents. Personally, he would be glad if someone could punch the bastard squarely in the face. He smirked at the thought.Half an hour passed. He thought that was enough
Clyde went to meet Alpha Wade afterwards. Jared returned to his new place while Patrick went back to work.“He didn’t try to kill the man, did he?” Wade asked as soon as he saw the younger alpha. His lip twitched. He really thought that? “You made me curious. What’s the worst scenario you anticipated?”Wade shrugged, “I suppose I expected him to assert his dominance. Challenge him into a fight or something. Beat him up and take the man’s daughter forcibly. But then again, this is Snow Mountain. He can’t do such a thing without serious repercussions. But I don’t know. He can be unpredictable at times. He would have no regard for rules. He already did, didn’t he?”“When are you leaving?” Clyde noticed that he has packed his luggage already.“In a few hours. I’ll be leaving two of my men to watch over Jared. They’re no match to him, though. They&rsquo
The area was residential and most people are still on their duties, so no one noticed him looking in. He could hear someone else is in the house, though. Maybe her mother. When he began to see other people, he decided to leave. He’s not sure if he wanted to see her father this soon. Tomorrow, he’ll see her again. His lip twitched when he felt an irritation inside him. He’s feeling impatient again, wanting to be with her sooner. He audibly exhaled while walking away. He doesn’t want to go back to that tiny place yet so he redirected his steps and continued moving. Soon, he found himself facing the lake. His whole demeanor relaxed at seeing the calm surface, the mountains beyond being reflected on it. It was undoubtedly a great view. When it began to turn dark, he decided to go. He wondered where he’ll get his food. He has money. Plenty of it. Surely, they sell food within the territory, right? He went to find Clyde, ironically the person he
He thought it was a good trait. She’ll be his Luna, so she must be tough. She should be able to confront anyone without fear. He likes how she’s able to directly stare at him. Very few people can. They would normally look away after a while. But then again, it must be because his expression was gentler than usual. It’s still a little intimidating but less scary than the first time she saw him. Polly was trying to make herself immune to his expression. If she stares at him long enough, she would get used to it, yes? Thankfully, his attractiveness seemingly overshadows his scary look. There’s something about his eyes . . . He raised an eyebrow, realizing she’s scrutinizing him. “Fine. A month is still long enough, though. It’s not as if you can’t return here. You can schedule regular visits, you know? It’s not like I’m going to lock you in a room in Blood Moon. You’re free to come here if you want to see your parents.” See? He’s not unreasonable. He can accommodate her needs. He’s no
Jared could only smirk as he faced them. He’s not worried. He found himself having fun, actually. As for Polly, she had a restless nap for some reason. No matter what, she couldn’t sleep soundly.Mid-day, her father came home with a dark expression.“What’s wrong?” Her mother worriedly asked.Patrick turned to his daughter, “Your mate’s being challenged in the training grounds. Everyone who did are being taken down by him. It’s not a good look, even if he’s from the bloodline of an alpha.”Her lip twitched as she imagined the scene, “I’m sure Alpha Clyde wouldn’t mind.”Her father grunted, “That’s not the point. They’re trying to lecture him, but he’s simply beating them up. He was arrogantly saying he did nothing wrong. Can you believe it?”Ugh. Polly was in disbelief. “He was saying that?”The audacity
