The words shocked even me a little, hearing them out loud. But I didn’t back off.

“She is to be regarded as an equal member of the Black Oak Pack.”

That was the blow that landed. I could feel it. The collective intake of breath. The muttered curses barely stifled. A tin cup dropped somewhere near the back. Someone stood and then sat again without a word.

But no one dared speak yet.

“She will train,” I said, voice sharp now, cutting through the disbelief. “She will fight. She will bleed beside you. If she fails, she will fall — like anyone else. But I am giving her that chance.”

I walked slowly along the edge of the platform, watching faces. Watching doubt form behind old loyalties.

“If she proves herself — fully — she will bear the crest. Officially. She will wear our mark. She will become one of us.”

Selene looked like I’d slapped her. Not out of insult, but sheer disbelief. Her hands had dropped from the cup. Her lips were parted slightly, as if she wanted to speak but couldn’t find

We got to the border just as the wind shifted, thick with tension and the scent of something dark—unfamiliar, yet vaguely recognizable. There, standing calmly between two of our warriors, was a woman I had never seen before in my life. And yet, somehow, her aura felt... familiar. Disturbingly so.She didn’t look like me. Not even close. Her skin was pale, almost grayish under the forest shadows. Her eyes, a strange smoky color, gleamed with something unreadable. Her build was lean, predatory. So when one of the warriors had said she looked exactly like me? I’d assumed some kind of trick or illusion. But now that I stood a few feet away from her, I realized it wasn’t about physical appearance. Her energy was eerily similar to mine—twisted, darkened, but familiar enough to make the hairs on my arms rise.I glanced at Darius beside me. He said nothing, his face locked in that unreadable expression he wore when he was working through ten different instincts at once. But the slight squeeze

But he was already gone. The door was left swinging gently behind him.I stood frozen, the silence in the room suddenly deafening.Hunter.Who the hell was Hunter? My knees nearly gave. I sat back on the edge of the bed, the letter’s words echoing endlessly in my mind. You are the daughter of Maradona and Hunter. My father’s name was Michael. Michael. The man who raised me. Who held me close when I had nightmares. Who died trying to protect me.So who was this man called Hunter? Had my entire childhood been a lie?I looked back down at the photo in my lap—the woman who called herself Maradona. Who called herself my mother.I felt like I was slipping.I pressed the heels of my hands to my forehead, squeezing my eyes shut.Nothing made sense. My wolf was pacing in my chest. Nora was silent. Even Luna—usually so bold—seemed unsettled. Like they both knew something I didn’t.I had to go after him.Whatever Darius saw in that map, it rattled him. And if he knew something about Hunter—or th

He shrugged, a sheepish look spreading across his face. “I sent Dianne and Diva to get them. I just told them to grab everything a woman might need.”I shook my head, laughing softly. “Of course you did.”I took over, rubbing lotion into my skin while he watched like it was some sacred ritual he wasn’t allowed to disturb. As I slipped on a soft, breezy dress, he turned toward the bathroom, towel slung low on his hips, and called out over his shoulder, “You’re not using this room anymore.”I paused, frowning. “What?”He stopped in the doorway and looked back at me. “This room. It’s not yours now. Come to mine. I mean, ours.”My mouth fell open, and for a second, I had no clue what to say. He stood there waiting, eyes hopeful, almost pleading. My heart did a full somersault.I swallowed and nodded. “Okay?.”That triumphant grin of his came fast, full of pride and something softer—satisfaction, maybe, or just plain happiness. He vanished into the bathroom to shower again, humming under h

The bond sang, a crescendo of light and heat, binding us closer with every second.“Darius,” I moaned, my voice breaking as the pressure coiled tighter, a wave ready to crash. His name was a plea, a prayer, a vow.He growled my name in response, his pace quickening, his control slipping as the bond urged us toward completion. His lips found my neck again, teeth grazing the sensitive spot where my pulse raced. “Mine,” he snarled, the word vibrating through me.“Yours,” I gasped, my hands tangling in his hair, pulling him closer. “Always.”The world shattered. Pleasure crashed through me, a tidal wave that stole my breath, my vision, my everything.I cried out, my body arching as the bond flared, a golden light that burned through us both. Darius tensed, a primal roar tearing from his throat as he followed me over the edge, his release hot and fierce inside me. His teeth sank into my neck, sharp and perfect, sealing the mate bond with a bite that sent another wave of ecstasy crashing throu

The cool air kissed my skin, and I gasped, my body exposed to his gaze. His eyes darkened, as he drank me in, his stare so intense it felt like a physical touch. “Don’t hide from me,” he murmured, his voice rough with something deeper than playfulness. “You’re mine, Selene. My Luna. My mate.”My heart thundered, the mate bond singing in my veins, pulling me toward him. I wanted to protest, to cling to the last shred of my composure, but the way he looked at me—like I was his entire world—undid me completely. “Darius…” I whispered, my voice trembling with need.He didn’t wait for more. In one fluid motion, he closed the distance, his hands cupping my face as his lips crashed into mine. The kiss was fire and hunger, a claim that seared through me, igniting every nerve. His tongue swept against mine, tasting of mint and something wild, and I moaned into his mouth, my hands finding his shoulders, gripping the slick, warm muscle there. The bond pulsed, a golden thread weaving tighter, urgin

He leaned back, rubbing a hand over his mouth.“Too much coincidence. Too much packed into one moment. Someone or something triggered it all.”“Did the rogues say anything?” I asked.Darius nodded grimly. “That day, when I questioned one of the dying ones, he said something that didn’t make sense at the time. He said, ‘The blood of the white wolf is all the master needs. And when he gets it, your lands will turn to forgotten memories.’”My blood turned to ice.“What the hell does that mean?” I whispered, barely able to form the words. He looked at me again. “You said you never met your mother.”“Not really,” I replied. “My father said I was seven when she died. But now? I’m not sure. I don’t remember her face. I don’t remember anything that makes sense. No portraits. No paintings. Nothing.”“That’s not normal,” he said softly.“No, it’s not,” I agreed. “Someone wiped my memories. They erased her.”He looked like he wanted to argue but couldn’t.“Selene,” he said, leaning closer, “I ne
