Morning light crept through the tall windows, pale and soft, brushing Arielle’s lashes.

She stirred in her sleep.

Then she felt a presence, her wolf instincts were always sharp.

Arielle's eyes snapped open.

Ethan stood near the window, arms folded, his broad frame outlined by the rising sun. He wasn’t looking at her, his gaze was fixed outside, sharp and distant, as if he had been there long before she woke.

Her heart jumped into her throat.

“Alpha Ethan,” she said quickly, pushing herself upright. “What are you doing here?”

He didn’t turn.

“And is it proper for an Alpha to enter a lady’s chamber without summons or courtesy?” she added, irritation cutting through the lingering fog of sleep.

“You were asleep,” he said. “And I wasn’t here for conversation.”

She frowned, drawing the blanket closer around herself. “That does not answer my question.”

Finally, he faced her. His gaze was steady, unreadable, but sharp enough to still her tongue.

“You begin training today,” he said.

Arielle drew her own blade in one smooth motion. The familiar weight of the hilt steadied her. They circled.Leo struck first— a testing, controlled horizontal slash. Arielle blocked instinctively, the impact reverberating up her arms and rattling her teeth."What do you mean you know everything?" Arielle hissed. Her lips barely moving, her blade catching Leo’s in a cross-parry again. As they moved, Leo spoke quietly, timed between the rhythm of their blows. "I was on my way here,” he said, his eyes locked into hers. “When I saw you confronting Luna Seraphina. I stayed behind a pillar…I heard every word about the silk and the arrow."Arielle’s jaw tightened. She spun away, her blade whistling through the air in a horizontal arc. Leo ducked, the blade passing inches above his head as he rolled and came up in a defensive stance."Then you know she was behind the attack," Arielle said, breathless as they circled each other again.“Yes,” Leo replied, striking again. “I know.”“And you h

Arielle stood before the long silver mirror, dressing for the day’s training. Her movements were methodical, almost ritualistic. She wore a brown training leathers, fitted but flexible. The kind worn by warriors who expected to be bruised and bloodied by the end of the day. She put on the leather bracers around her forearms, pulling the laces tight until the pressure pressed against her skin. Her knuckles, still covered in the small plasters Drusilla had applied, throbbed with a dull, rhythmic ache. She stared at her reflection. The girl who had arrived at this castle shaking and hollowed out by grief, was fading. And in her place was someone leaner, sharper. Someone with eyes that looked like frozen amethysts."My Lady," Drusilla whispered, stepping into the room with a fresh basin of water. "The Alpha King has already moved to the training grounds. And… She is coming out of her chambers already.”Arielle didn't turn. She fastened the last strap at her wrist and smoothed her hair b

The silence in the room was suffocating.Drusilla stood frozen, her lungs seized, as the tip of Seraphina’s cane stopped mere inches from the scrap of fallen silk. It sat mockingly atop the dark rug, a shimmering shard of evidence that could end Drusilla’s life before the sun finished its descent. Her soul seemed to leave her body for a heartbeat, but the instinct to survive, and the loyalty she felt for Arielle jolted her into motion."Forgive me, Luna! I am so clumsy today," Drusilla chirped, her voice trembling just enough to sound like a nervous, bumbling maid. Before Sephy could lean down and inspect the debris, Drusilla lunged forward, sweeping the towel off the rug. With a sleight of hand born of pure desperation she made a frantic, exaggerated motion. The silk vanished beneath the fabric.Drusilla pinched the silver scrap into the folds of the towel and twisted it tight. In the same breath, she shoved the entire bundle deep into her apron pocket, her heart pounding so loudly s

Seraphina followed Ethan into his chambers, her cane clicking rhythmically and sharply against the marble, footsteps uneven but determined.“Ethan!”He didn’t answer. The doors closed behind them with a heavy finality. "Ethan! Talk to me!" she shrilled, her voice cracking with indignation. "You were supposed to punish those men. You are the King! If they don't fear the consequences of their failure, they will never truly protect this pack. You’re letting that girl, that outsider, dictate your law!"Ethan didn't turn. He walked to the sideboard and poured himself a finger of whiskey, the liquid glowing like a dragon’s eye in the dim light. He stepped to the window, backing her, his silhouette tall and unyielding as he stared down at the dark garden where the arrow had flown."Ethan, why are you not talking?" Sephy’s voice softened, turning from demanding to pleading. She moved closer, leaning on her cane. "Is it because of what happened earlier? In my room? I... I didn't know what cam

Drusilla walked hurriedly through the cold stone corridors, her breath hitching with every step. The image of the jagged arrow in Arielle’s hand and the blood-stained cloth wouldn't leave her mind. She stopped before the heavy, iron-reinforced doors of the Alpha King’s chambers, her hands clenched tight around the hem of her apron. Two guards blocked her path, their spears crossing with a metallic clack before her chest."The Alpha King is resting," the guard on the left grunted. "No disturbances."“Please,” Drusilla insisted, her voice tight, rising in urgency. "It is important! I must speak with him," Drusilla pleaded."It can wait until dawn, girl. Move along," the second guard growled, stepping forward to intimidate her.But Drusilla didn't budge. "It cannot wait! Please!"She tried again. And again. Her voice rose, desperation bleeding through her composure. “Please let me in.”Inside the chamber, Ethan sat in a high-backed leather chair, a glass of amber whiskey in his hand. Th

Inside Arielle’s chambers, a soft, tentative knock broke the stillness."Lady Arielle?"It was Drusilla. No answer. She knocked again, firmer this time. “Lady Arielle…?”Still nothing.A crease formed between Drusilla’s brows. That was unusual. She eased the door open and stepped inside, her eyes scanning the room. She held a small wooden treatment kit, the scent of antiseptic and clean linen trailing after her.“Lady Arielle?” she called again, her voice was thin, carrying a note of habitual worry. When no answer came, she walked towards the washroom door."Lady Arielle? I noticed the bruising earlier... I brought the salves," Drusilla murmured to the empty air and no reply came. She checked the washroom, and the adjoining sitting area. Nothing.“Where could she possibly be?” Drusilla wondered.Drusilla’s fingers tightened around the leather handle of the treatment kit. Then, her gaze drifted to the window, instinct guiding her. She approached it, peering down into the dark garde
