I woke up with an empty feeling.

I scanned the room and realised I was now alone.

There was no sign of Lucien.

Lazily, I got out of bed and started walking towards the bathroom but froze the minute my hand touched the cold door knob, the memories kept rushing back.

Inhaling a deep breath and preparing myself for the worst, I opened the door, only to find it clean. There were no signs of last night's events.

A small smile made its way on my face after realising Lucien cleaned it before leav

  • Marked by the Moon   47. If wakes too soon

The water had been acting weird around me.No matter how much I tried to control my emotions or say the right words, it was getting noticeable. My town had many good things, unfortunately, it did not have a place where I could practice alone.I stared at the map on my phone, it was showing me everything I already knew. I started looking at the forest. It was only showing me the trees, but somehow I knew there was a lake or a river there as well. I closed the map and started thinking about the alternatives. Letting out a sigh, I sat down on the bed.My eyes went towards the window. What if I was right and there was a place in the forest?I clutched the phone tightly in my hand and started thinking about the possibilities of going there alone.I would be fine as long as I had a correct map.My eyes next moved towards the mirror, which was now covered entirely with a beige cloth. After what happened that day, I was not able to look into that mirror without being scared of her popping

  • Marked by the Moon   46. Leave me alone

I woke up tired. The breakfast, the morning conversation... it all made me feel nauseous. Mom's watchful eyes were studying me silently. But she didn't say anything in front of Dad and Lily, just offered me tea instead of the green-colored smoothie. It meant, you look tired, you didn't sleep properly last night either. But none of us said anything out loud and ate the meal in silence.I sat down on the bed after having breakfast, there was no rush to reach college. I had taken a break to study at home. At least, that was the lie I was going with, I wanted to start searching for another place to restart my practice. But where could I find the right place? I needed it to be away from people, but not too far away to get murdered. I closed my eyes and started thinking. There was a sudden shift in the air around me. I knew I was no longer alone. I felt someone's eyes on me. My head quickly turned towards the window, but it was not open. I decided to look outside...towards the fore

  • Marked by the Moon   45. You have been gone all day

I sat in the car for a few more minutes before going inside. Pressing my lips in a thin line, I checked myself in the mirror. Quickly, I tried to tame my hair and applied a thin layer of gloss. I didn't want anyone to notice why I looked like I had seen a ghost. I held the steering wheel tightly and closed my eyes for a brief moment to gather my thoughts. "You can't let anyone know about what happened today. Act normal, be normal, you're not going crazy," I gave myself a small pep talk before finally getting out of the car. I didn't dare to look anywhere else and kept walking straight towards the front door. Silence. I shut the door behind me gently and started walking towards my bedroom."Celeste," the voice broke the silence, making me freeze. "Where have you been, young lady?" The seriousness in her voice was telling me it was not the right time to argue or ignore her. However, it was never the right time to argue with my Mother. "I was in the library," I blurted out the wo

  • Marked by the Moon   44. Something was happening around me

My mind was a mess. My thoughts were scattered. I couldn't stop thinking about the woman I saw in the lake. Who was she? Why did the lake show me her image? The thoughts had been haunting me, no matter how much I tried to get rid of them. I knew one thing, all my questions would be answered at one place only. But how could I go there?Would it be wrong? The questions were testing my patience and sanity. I stood in front of my window, staring at the forest in front of me. For some reason, a part of me wanted to run into the forest and search for my answers but another part of me knew, my answers were somehwere else. "Fuck this," I yelled the words loudly, before storming out of my bedroom. I took the car keys, I didn't like to drive but my focus was on something else. The sky remained clear blue over my head, there were no clouds, unlike the situation inside my head. Kai had been checking up on me constantly, but how could I share all of my issues with him when he didn't know

  • Marked by the Moon   43. A missing part of my life

My world had flipped upside down after learning the truth. Of course, I was grateful to be a part of this family. But a small part of me wanted to know more about my other parents. What happened to them? How did they die? How did I survive the fire? But no matter how much I wanted to know the truth, I had no way of knowing about it. I asked my mother in the morning about the place where she found me or where my parents died, but she said it would be best if I stopped running behind the answers that would just make me more curious...and eventually hurt me.Because, according to her, no matter what, I found the answer would not be in my favour. Running behind shadows could only lead to a path of darkness. But it was a missing part of my life. And, when I asked her if anyone else had survived the fire, her response was even more brutal. The fire wiped out the entire neighborhood. There were no survivors.... except for me.A heaviness settled in my heart. My phone started ringing

  • Marked by the Moon   42. I will do anything to protect my family

Kai went home without uttering a word about what he had witnessed. For someone who just survived getting murdered, he was behaving pretty chill. I was done being in the dark, if I wanted answers, I had to start finding them on my own. I was on the call with Kai. Strangely, he was the one reassuring me and saying it would be fine and we could talk about everything later. But it was my Kai, unpredictable. Once I was sure he was fine, I had another thing to take care of.And I knew from where I should start. "Mom," I called her. She put the tea cup on the table and looked at me through her reading glasses, "Yes, dear."Mom would always sit near the window after dinner and enjoy a cup of her favourite tea while reading a book.I hesitated. "Are you alright?" she asked when I didn't respond. "Can I talk to you?" "Of course, come sit with me," she closed the book that was in her hands and removed her glasses. I sat down next to her. I was not the only one who had been acting weird

There was a sudden shift in our surroundings. The air had gotten more dangerous. We were no longer the only ones standing uninvited on the forest ground.Something was moving behind the trees, something that couldn't be seen, it only showed its presence by the rustling sound of leaves. My eyes final

  • Marked by the Moon   6. Find it

I just wanted to sleep. I felt like I had not slept properly in days, which was not wrong. The mark was not burning anymore....I ran my fingers softly over the mark, remembering his touch. • Marked by the Moon   5. The pull

The night brought something else with darkness.Questions.I didn't move away from the window, I stood there as the sun bid its farewell and the night replaced the day.
