Ella

“I see why you like him,” Claire said after he closed the door behind him. Her eyes twinkled with a knowing look that had me unsure if she was teasing or not.

“You can’t be serious,” I answered, rolling my eyes as she cleared the area where she had cleaned and wrapped his wounds. I could still feel his aura lingering in the room, and it irked me subtly.

“Why? He’s handsome, can hold his own in a fight, and is clearly a man of his word. What’s there not to like?”

“Lucian is a lot of things, but I wouldn’t bank on him keeping his word about not going through the woods, and we’re worlds apart. Liking him is nowhere on the menu.”

“Maybe that’s because you haven’t let yourself feel the appropriate emotions when it comes to him,” she said, bagging the items she had used to treat him before moving to the table to pick up a bottle of hand sanitizer.

“Believe me when I tell you that I couldn’t like him even if I tried. He has that effect on people.”

“Really? I couldn’t tell,” she replied

  • Marked for Ruin: The Alphas’ Rejected Mate   LUCIAN

Lucian“What the hell is wrong with me?” I muttered as I walked out of the warehouse, heaving a sigh as the air blew gently across my face. My conversation with Claire and her approach regarding the entire situation had made it clear that I could have handled things a lot differently with Ella. But then again, she wasn’t particularly a—I looked around the deserted area and shook my head. I had come here based on what the seer had said, hoping that if I found Ella, we might have a solution to Kade’s problem. But that had been futile. I wasn’t sure why I thought she’d be willing to help, nor did I anticipate the ambush in the woods. For the first time in a long while, I had acted purely on emotion, and the results were nothing like I had imagined. At my core, I could accept that desperation had been a motivating factor, which wasn’t a good look on me. But given everything I had to deal with at a time like this, maybe it would do me some good to cut myself some slack. At least I had lea

  • Marked for Ruin: The Alphas’ Rejected Mate   Ella

ELLA“Claire,” he said, and ran his hands through his hair. “I can call you that, right?” he added, and she nodded. “I’ve been through worse, and I promise I’ll be fine.”“Please listen to him and let him go so we can carry on with why we came here in the first place,” I chirped, and she shot me a warning look.I had never seen her react that way to anything, and I was starting to think there was more to her refusal to let him go than she was letting on. In all honesty, it didn’t sit right with me to let him leave without healing fully, and even if she didn’t know the full story about what happened in the woods, she was right. If he went back in there, he’d be walking straight into a trap, but as I said earlier, that was his cross to carry. The last few minutes I spent with him had taught me that assholes don’t deserve favours, and I was done doing things for people who didn’t deserve it.Right now, I just wanted to enjoy some peace and quiet so I could recuperate, and we could contin

  • Marked for Ruin: The Alphas’ Rejected Mate   LUCIAN

LUCIANShe started to say something, but I continued speaking, ignoring her attempt at communication. I wasn’t particularly interested in whatever she had to say if she didn’t have the courage to admit that my assessment of her relationship with Lyla was spot on.“Have you stopped to think that whatever this is, or whoever is wreaking havoc on the pack, isn’t going to stop at Dennison? If this is anything like the seer says, they’re not going to wipe out the Blackthorn Pack you loathe so much and then move on without a care in the world. When they’re done with us, they’ll come for you, and everyone else you think is out of reach. That bubble you’re clinging to so desperately will burst, and they’ll take out anyone who stands in the way of what they want.”“Does that make you feel any better?” she asked, and I squinted at her.“What are you talking about?” I inquired, and she scoffed.“Being the person who drains hope and any form of positivity from another person’s world, does it make

  • Marked for Ruin: The Alphas’ Rejected Mate   Ella

ELLAIt was laughable that I was so surprised he was finally doing the bare minimum, but in the midst of everything happening, it felt a little refreshing to hear him.It might not seem like much, but it was a step in the right direction. Perhaps I was wrong about him and there was salvation lurking around the corner.“I said it’s a good thing you’re not Lyla,” I replied with a defiant look. “Regardless of what you think about our friendship, she wouldn’t dump me because I ran off. If anything, she would understand that it was something I had to do out of necessity.”“If you’re so sure about the foundation your friendship is built on, why didn’t you at least inform her that you were leaving?” he sneered.I smiled sadly and exhaled. “She…” I began, then stopped to gather my thoughts. I was about to regurgitate the same reason I’d given myself before leaving, but I was beginning to see I had come too far to be dishonest with myself.“I had been planning my exit from the Blackthorn pack

  • Marked for Ruin: The Alphas’ Rejected Mate   Kade

KADEJust when I thought I had figured out how to get back to my body, I was pulled away from it, and in its place, I could feel the wind beating against my face like I was running.Taken aback by the drastic change, I decided to observe my surroundings. The darkness that plagued me for a minute was gone, replaced by the bright light that invaded my sight, and I could see the trees and the moon—which only meant I was seeing through Ella’s eyes once more. But why would she be running? That question was answered a few seconds later as a clearing in the woods came into view and I saw a group of wolves huddled together. It took a few more seconds to realize they weren’t actually huddled—they were tactically surrounding something.A path cleared, and a shock coursed through my body when I realized the object of their attention was none other than my brother, Lucian.I didn’t understand at first because he wasn’t in his human form, but when it finally registered, a wave of mixed emotions hi
