Chapter 4

The next morning I woke up to the sound of birds chirping, and the moon and stars ready to pass duty to the sun. I looked sideways to the bedside table where a clock rested. I stood up feeling pain all over, it seemed the pain relief they gave me yesterday had worn off.

I walked into the bathroom and freshened up. I got out of the bathroom with a bathrobe a little too big wrapped around me only to find a pair of sweats neatly folded on the bed. While putting on the underwear that I found between clothes, a thought crossed my mind and I quickly changed into the sweatshirt and jugger that I found with a new thought in mind to escape before anyone else woke up.

I went over to the window and looked down to see I was twelve feet from the ground. I couldn't jump or else I would sprain my ankle, so I decided to use the door. I opened the door slowly and quietly enough for me to squeeze through to avoid any creaking. I looked into the hallway to see if the place was clear.

After straining my ear and eyes for a few seconds in the dark hallway I was convinced that the place was clear. I quickly but quietly closed the door not wasting any more time. This was the first time I had left the room since I got there, my only prayer was that am going in the right direction as I tip-toed in the hallway.

I turned a corner and saw two doors at my left, I tip-toed past them to meet the stairs at the end. I signed in relief. Immediately I stepped on the last stair, I looked around for the exit, and I found i. Beside the door was a coat rack, some pairs of shoes, and a foot mat. I walked over and took the less bigger coat which was still twice my size and wore it along with a pair of canvas. The weather outside was drooping and I didn't want to die of cold. I looked through the window from not far from the exit.

My eyes bulged out at the sight of two hefty men guarding the door. I crouched just as one of the men looked in my direction almost as if he felt eyes on him. I looked around for an exit, there was another hallway and then a kitchen that was exposed or maybe the door was wide open. I couldn't see much since the place was dark. I walked to the kitchen picked up a bread knife that was near the basin and stuck it in the pocket of my pants.

The window was wide open and enough for me to pass through. I climbed on the counter and stuck my two legs out of the window, it was a bit difficult for my hips to pass through but after that, I slid to the ground with a hard landing which caused a sharp pain on my already wounded leg. I gasped as the paint traveled to my spine. There was no fence surrounding the house, but trees surrounded the house, l limped to the woods hoping to hide my figure in the shadow they cast under the moonlight.

While looking for the gate that leads outside this place, I saw cabins and a few buildings that were scattered throughout the land. This looked like a town and for the first time since I started my escape I felt I was never going to make it out of there before I got caught or if very unlucky, killed. Before I could think of a way out, my eyes landed on a figure, six feet from where I was standing, resting on a tree, staring at me.

I jumped in shock, feeling the hair on my skin stand. Looking closely it was a boy not much older than me at my front staring at me. Confused because I didn't hear the sound of footsteps.

" Going somewhere?" He smirked satisfied with the way I reacted to his presence. I didn't know whether to beg him or fight. The latter is not even a real option, though he was not much older, he was well built with muscles bulging out in all the right places.

He began to walk towards me but the more steps he took forward the more steps I took backward, uncertain about his intentions.

" Where could a pretty little piece be going to by this time" he said, looking at me from head to toe. The way he looked at me made a shiver run up my spine. It better not be what I was thinking. At an inhumane speed, he closed the distance between us, and all I could feel was his breath on my face, sticky, rough hands caressing my arm, and bile that almost rose in my throat.

I would scream but I still didn't want to screw my chance of escaping as I subtly slip my hand into my pocket to grip the bread knife. The next thing I knew, he was bringing his face closer and closer to him. Just as he got closer enough, I kicked him between his legs where the sun didn't shine.

"Fuck" he groaned in pain as he bent over. I took that as an opportunity to run. It didn't take as long as I expected because the next thing I heard was the sound of footsteps chasing me. Just as I turn to check the distance between us, my body bumped into a tree and fell on my butt.

"What are you doing out here?" I looked up at where the voice was coming from before realizing it was me. I didn't bump into a tree, but the hard rock body of a human, or werewolf. I was unable to answer because I was panting hard from my run. I remembered the boy who was chasing me and turned to look at him but he was nowhere to be found. I looked back at Evan who was looking angrily at me. If looks could kill then I was sure I would be six feet underground.

"If you thought escaping was the best option to save yourself from what was about to come, then you thought wrong," he said stretching his hand out to help me. Though he was angry he still helped me up gently.

He didn't leave my hand as he pulled me back to the big building with me following reluctantly and into my room in silence. By the time we got home the adrenaline pumping through my system had been fully exhausted and all I felt was shame at being caught, but he was also right whether I escaped or not I was still going to shift into a dog on the day of the full moon, I might as well just learn how to survive, it's not like people within the building where trying to kill me.
