The chamber was still trembling.

Dust slowly settled around the shattered pillars.

But my attention was no longer on the chaos.

It was on him.

The Alpha.

He stood across the room staring at me like he was seeing something new for the first time.

Not the girl who lived inside his territory.

Not the mate he once rejected.

But the woman who had just commanded a throne to respond to her blood.

His warriors and the traitors were still locked in battle behind him.

The massive shadow that had risen from beneath the throne was frozen watching me.

Yet the most intense presence in that room was not the creature.

It was the silence between me and him.

He walked toward me slowly.

Carefully.

As if I might disappear if he moved too fast.

“You knew,” he said quietly.

His voice was different now.

Lower.

Less controlled.

“About what?” I asked.

“That the throne would respond to you like that.”

I tilted my head slightly.

“I did not.”

“Then why did it choose you?”

I glanced at the glowing symbols still rotating faintly around the chamber.

“Because it recognized my blood.”

His jaw tightened.

“You said nothing about being connected to royal authority.”

I turned my gaze back to him.

“You rejected me before you knew who I was.”

The words hit him.

Hard.

He flinched just slightly.

The mate bond inside my chest reacted immediately.

It pulsed stronger.

Pain and attraction mixed together.

He inhaled slowly.

“You think I rejected you because I believed you were worthless.”

His eyes locked onto mine.

“I rejected the bond because the council threatened war if I accepted it openly.”

My heart skipped.

“That is your excuse?”

“It is not an excuse.”

His tone sharpened.

“It is a fact.”

He stepped closer again.

Close enough that I could feel the heat radiating from his body.

“Do you think I did not feel what happened every time I walked away from you?”

His gaze dropped briefly to my lips.

Then back to my eyes.

“The bond tore at me.”

My breathing became uneven.

I hated how easily his presence affected me.

Hated how my power reacted to his closeness.

The symbols around my body flickered.

He noticed.

His expression changed.

“You cannot control it fully yet.”

“No,” I admitted.

“But I am learning.”

He reached out slowly.

His fingers hovered near my arm.

Not touching.

Waiting for permission.

The gesture surprised me.

The Alpha who once commanded authority without hesitation was now asking silently before contact.

I did not move away.

He let his fingertips brush against my wrist.

The moment he touched me

Electricity exploded between us.

Not painful.

Not violent.

Power surged from my skin into his.

He inhaled sharply.

His eyes widened.

“You feel it,” I whispered.

“Yes.”

His grip tightened slightly.

“The throne amplified the bond.”

I stared at him.

“It did not amplify it.”

“It balanced it.”

Confusion flashed across his face.

“Explain.”

“When I touched the throne, it did not just recognize my bloodline.”

I paused.

“It recognized both of us.”

His breath stopped.

“Both?”

“Yes.”

The chamber trembled again but this time the movement was subtle.

The massive shadow creature that had risen earlier shifted behind us.

It was still kneeling.

Observing.

Waiting.

But now its attention was split between me and the Alpha.

I turned slightly to glance at it.

The creature bowed its massive head lower.

The Alpha followed my gaze.

“Why does it respond to you like that?”

I answered carefully.

“Because it is tied to the throne.”

He narrowed his eyes.

“Meaning?”

“It is not attacking.”

I faced the creature fully.

“It is guarding.”

“Guarding what?”

“Me.”

Silence fell heavily between us.

The realization made his expression shift.

The power inside the vault did not treat me like a stranger.

It treated me like its rightful owner.

His gaze darkened.

“If that thing is bound to you

“It is not a threat.”

“It could become one.”

I stepped slightly closer to him.

“You are thinking like an Alpha.”

“And you are thinking like a queen.”

The words slipped out before he could stop them.

We both froze.

Queen.

He had not meant to say it aloud.

But the title had already attached itself to me in this room.

I watched his reaction carefully.

He looked conflicted.

Proud.

Afraid.

And frustrated.

“You are moving too fast,” he muttered.

“Too fast for what?”

“For the pack.”

“For you.”

His eyes locked onto mine.

“You gained authority today.”

“Yes.”

“But authority changes relationships.”

His voice softened.

“And I am not ready for the world to see you as my equal.”

My chest tightened.

Not from pain.

But from realization.

He was not rejecting me now.

He was struggling with power shift.

The dynamic between us had changed permanently.

I took a slow breath.

“Then prepare yourself.”

His brow furrowed.

“Prepare for what?”

“For the moment when the world sees it too.”

The tension between us was thick.

Unresolved.

Dangerous.

The mate bond surged again stronger than before.

He stepped even closer.

His hand moved from my wrist to my waist without hesitation this time.

The contact was deliberate.

Possessive.

But not aggressive.

“You think I am afraid of your power?” he asked quietly.

“I think you are afraid of losing control.”

His eyes flashed.

“Control over what?”

“Over me.”

His grip tightened slightly.

For a brief moment, the battle behind us faded.

The traitors.

The fighting.

The rising creature.

All of it disappeared from my awareness.

There was only him.

And the heat between us.

His forehead slowly lowered until it rested against mine.

The gesture shocked me.

It was intimate.

Vulnerable.

His voice dropped to a whisper.

“I do not want control over you.”

His breath brushed against my lips.

“I want partnership.”

My heart skipped violently.

Partnership.

Not dominance.

Not ownership.

Before I could respond

A loud roar erupted from behind us.

The creature that had been kneeling slowly rose to its full height.

Its glowing eyes locked onto the door where the traitors had entered earlier.

The battle outside the chamber had stopped.

Complete silence followed.

The creature turned its massive head toward us.

Then it spoke.

Not in words.

But through vibration.

Threat approaching.

The Alpha pulled away from me instantly.

His expression shifted back to warrior mode.

“More enemies,” he muttered.

I turned toward the entrance.

Footsteps echoed from the corridor.

Slow.

Confident.

And accompanied by powerful energy signatures.

Someone powerful had arrived.

The doors to the vault slowly began opening again.

I felt it before I saw it.

Another presence.

Strong.

Calculated.

And familiar.

The figure stepped through the entrance calmly.

Clad in dark armor.

Face hidden behind a mask carved with the same symbol as the throne.

He looked directly at me.

Then spoke.

“You activated the wrong phase.”

My power flared instinctively.

“Who are you?”

He tilted his head.

“I am the one who sealed the throne.”

My blood ran cold.

The Alpha stepped forward immediately.

“Impossible.”

The masked figure laughed softly.

“You think this power was meant to awaken freely?”

His gaze locked onto me.

“It was designed to awaken only when the chosen heir becomes emotionally unstable.”

My heart pounded.

“What did you do?”

He lifted his hand.

The ground beneath us began cracking again.

“And now,” he said calmly,

“I will reset the system.”

The creature behind me roared loudly.

The symbols around the chamber exploded with light.

The vault trembled violently.

And the masked figure raised both hands releasing a surge of dark energy straight toward the throne.

The throne cracked again but instead of breaking

It began absorbing the dark energy.

And my body reacted violently in response.
