LOGINKaden
I came back to meet a sleeping Catherine on the couch. I crouched down and picked her up. She clung to my neck as I took her up to her room.
“You’re back,” she said sleepily.
“Yeah, I’m back,” I said, patting her head. “Now go back to sleep.”
I stood up to leave when she lightly clutched my fingers.
“Thank you, Kaden.”
I nodded and left.
Sunshine streamed through the window as I blinked my eyes open. I padded to the bathroom and went about my business.
“Already leaving?” Catherine asked from the staircase.
“Yeah. Early meeting.”
“Okay, break a leg.”
“Catherine,” I called as she turned to walk back up.
“Yeah?”
“What did Kai say to you the other day?”
“How did you know about that?” she asked, stepping down the stairs.
“I saw him leave the house on my cameras.”
She gasped. “You’ve got cameras in the house?”
“Oh, don’t be silly, Catherine. On the driveway. There are cameras there, and I always know who comes and leaves.”
“Oh.”
“Yeah. Now tell me—what did he say? And hurry up, I’ve got a company to run.”
“Snappy much?” She rolled her eyes. “He was just telling me to back down from the marriage, that I have an ulterior motive.”
“Thank you, Catherine,” I said, making my way out.
“That’s all?” she yelled. “Kaden!”
I ignored her and took the elevator down. Oh, Kai would definitely get it from me.
A knock came at the door.
“Come in.”
Kai walked in, flashing his boyish smile.
“You called, brother?”
I exhaled as I stood and walked toward him.
“Kai… Kai…” I said, my hands in my pockets. “What gave you the right to interrogate my fiancée?”
He looked shocked, though it was quickly masked by a stoic expression.
“I made it clear the other day that I wanted Catherine, but you went behind my back to threaten her,” I said, my voice dripping with anger.
“Come on, bro. Don’t tell me you don’t know she had a fallout with her husband after stupidly signing her company away. She’s young and naive. How do you think she can stand as a partner to you? She’s just here for what you can offer, nothing more.”
“Don’t you dare talk about my woman that way, Kai. I’m warning you,” I snapped. “Catherine is none of your business. Know your boundaries. I won’t say it again.”
He nodded and left my office.
I poured a drink and sipped as I remembered that look in Catherine’s eyes that day.
I had been invited to a business meeting. A couple had gotten married at that estate. Coming out from the meeting, I saw her with tears in her eyes, clutching the groom’s jacket. I watched as the guards led her out of the building, still crying.
Though I had been keeping tabs on her, I knew nothing about her personally—just that she was the heiress to the Rosawood empire.
I chose Catherine for a reason, and I wasn’t going to sit back and watch Kai disrespect her.

Evening had fallen by the time I stopped at the location to meet my investigator.
He slid into my car and handed me some papers. I looked through them and nodded.
“We were only able to retrieve some funds, but we have not yet found the culprit,” he said.
“Keep looking. And the next time you call me, it had better be good news.”
He exited the car, and I drove off.
Whoever it was, I would fish them out.
I walked into the penthouse but came to a dead stop.
“What the hell?” I took in the rows and rows of clothes, the people, the voices, and instantly took a step backward.
“Kaden, you’re home. Good,” Catherine called. “Come here and check out this dress.”
“What is all this, Cat?”
“What? We were supposed to go for a dress fitting, or did you forget, husband?”
“I meant at the store, not here—in my house.”
“Well, it’s our house now. Deal with it.”
She shooed me away, and I shook my head, taking the stairs.
It took four hours before the penthouse cleared out and everything returned to normal.
“You picked a dress?” I asked Catherine.
“Yeah, I did. Now it’s your turn to go for a suit fitting.”
“Someone is enthusiastic about the wedding,” I said, smiling.
“Not enthusiastic. Just want to get it over with,” she said.
I pulled her toward me, and she fell onto my lap. My thumb caressed her lower lip, and she shivered.
She stood abruptly and bolted.

Our wedding day was fast approaching. A month from now, I will be a married man. My mum decided to throw an engagement party, and they wanted to meet my fiancée in person.
“How do I look?” Catherine asked.
“I never thought you cared about your looks in front of other people.”
“I don’t. I’m trying to make an impression,” she said, rubbing her lipstick.
Sam opened the car door, and I stepped out.
“Let’s go, Miss Perfectionist.”
With Catherine on my arm, we made our way inside.
My family welcomed Cat. My mum took an instant liking to her. Kai had that same stoic expression, but I knew he wasn’t happy—but I didn’t give a fuck.
Catherine greeted people and made small talk with them.
I heard gasps and turned to see Catherine on the floor, clutching her chest as her drink spilled everywhere.
“Catherine!”
KadenThe boardroom was quieter than usual.I took my seat, staring at the faces that thought it was a good idea to cross me.My father sat near the center of the table, posture perfect, hands folded like he was attending a ceremony instead of a meeting.Kai leaned back in his chair, one ankle resting on his knee, watching the room with the same bored expression he wore to most family gatherings. And across from me sat the man who had spent the last few months quietly bleeding my company dry.My uncle, Victor.“Everyone is here now.”I stood, placing a folder on the table before looking around the room.“Let’s keep this simple,” I said.My father raised an eyebrow. “What’s the emergency meeting for, son?”“You’ll see.”I sat back down and gestured to the folders in front of them.“Open them.”Kai finally straightened slightly.I kept my eyes on my thieving uncle, watching carefully for his reaction.“What is this?” the bastard asked.“Missing funds,” I said calmly, even though anger w

Leaning back like he belongs at the head of the table.I take my seat and place my tablet on the table.“Thank you all for coming on short notice,” I say.Dean finally looks at me.“What’s the reason for this meeting, Catherine?” He said. “We discovered irregularities in the finance department,” I continue. “Large withdrawals have been made from an account that does not exist.”A few people shift in their chairs. Dean remains perfectly calm.I tap my tablet and the screen lights up.“Transactions, Dates, amounts.” I continued“All of these pa
CatherineMorning sunlight filtered through the curtains when I walked downstairs.Kaden was already in the living room.Which was strange.Kaden Mitchell was never home in the morning. He stood by the window with his phone pressed to his ear, his expression cold.“Trace every number again,” he said. “I don’t care if it’s a burner phone. Find something.”He ended the call and turned when he noticed me.“You’re awake.”“You didn’t go to work,” I said.“Neither did you.”I crossed my arms.“You skipped work to babysit me?”“It’s too early for a banter, wife, if you’re looking for one.”I rolled my eyes and walked into the kitchen. He followed me in.I opened the fridge and grabbed a bottle of water.“I think Dean might be behind this.”I shook my head. “I don’t think so.”Kaden frowned.“Listen. Dean is an arrogant bastard,” I said. “But he’s not subtle.”“And?”“If he wanted to threaten me, he would do it directly. Dean likes watching people squirm.”“Hmm…” Kaden tsked. “My uncle inve
CatherineMy phone went dead just as I was talking with Kaden.“Damn,” I whispered.I decided to man up and see who was in the house. I was about to take a step when a young woman appeared.“Huh… who are you?”“Oh… I’m sorry. You must be Mr. Mitchell’s wife, Catherine. I’m Mia, the new house help.”I folded my arms and stared at the lady before me.“Kaden never mentioned any house help.”She was about to speak when the door flew open and Kaden walked in.“Catherine! What’s wrong? Who’s in the house?”I waved my hand toward the lady.“Her.”He breathed out in relief.“You scared the shit outta me. I thought something happened to you.”“She said you hired her. Is that true?”“Yeah. After what happened, we need help around here.”“Can we talk upstairs?” I said.He waved off the lady and followed me upstairs.“I don’t think hiring somebody in this our situation is the best. She could be a spy or something,” I said, dropping onto the bed.“She’s professional and her records are clean. And
KadenCatherine left for work again. She had argued for ten straight minutes about going to the office. In the end, I let her go because stopping her would only start another fight.I decided to visit James, because I was about to lose my cool over all this. I needed some man talk.“You look like someone insulted your entire bloodline,” James said.“Maybe they did.”James walked over to the small bar in his office and poured two glasses of whiskey before handing one to me.“That bad?” he asked.“You have no idea.”He leaned against the desk. “Start talking.”I took a sip before answering.“Someone’s targeting my wife. Her car was followed yesterday. Someone tried to cut it off.”He straightened immediately. “You’re serious?”“Very.”“You got security on her?”“Always.”James rubbed his jaw.“You better find out who’s responsible before she gets hurt.”James and I talked for hours, coming up with ways to deal with all this.*******Back at the office, Luke was waiting in my office. He
KadenThe office lights were still on at two in the morning.I hadn’t moved from my desk.Three different reports sat open in front of me, but I wasn’t reading any of them.Catherine thought I let my family walk all over her.I leaned back in my chair and rubbed my eyes.My phone buzzed on the desk. Luke.I answered immediately.“What did you find?”“Still tracing the missing funds,” he said. “But whoever’s doing it knows your system well.”“I figured.”“And boss… I can’t find any connection linking your brother and Samantha together. Looks like someone wiped her records clean.”“Keep digging,” I said.I ended the call and leaned forward again.“What exactly is going on here?” I whispered. “This is too coincidental.”I never confronted Kai over this, because sometimes the smartest move was letting people think you weren’t paying attention.By morning, the office was already filling with people.I had been up for almost twenty hours.Coffee helped.Barely.My phone was off, so I plugge
