Marriage of Another Life
Author: Lennox Chase

Chapter 1

Author: Lennox Chase
I was reborn on the very day Tilda Wright and I had to choose husbands.

Across the dinner table sat two men, both about the same age. One was Mike Pearson, the older brother who was cold and distant. The other was Phil Pearson, the younger brother, but born out of wedlock. He seemed gentle and easygoing.

[This time, I’m gonna make sure I grab the best husband first.]

A girl's voice echoed in my head.

It was Tilda's voice. I glanced at her, but she hadn't actually spoken. Her eyes were locked on Phil.

[I'm definitely gonna steal you away.]

Her voice rang in my head again.

That was when it hit me. I hadn't just been reborn—I could hear people's thoughts, too. And judging by what she said, Tilda had also been reborn. Otherwise, there was no way she'd be thinking like that.

Sure enough, a second later, she walked straight over to Phil and sat beside him, all shy smiles.

"Hi, I'm Tilda. I really like you," she said sweetly.

My father spoke up beside me. "Skye, since Tilda has chosen Phil, you'll marry Mike."

The moment he said that, pride flashed in Tilda's eyes. Inside, she thought, [This time, you can take the beating for me.]

-

In my past life, Tilda had married Mike.

He was a strong businessman and was always buried in work. I also heard he was cold when it came to matters in bed. Tilda had tried many times to seduce him, but every time, she ended up bruised and thrown out of his room.

Eventually, because she never had children, Mike's mother, Samantha Pearson, declared that she must be sick and kicked her out of the Pearsons' house.

As for me, I married Phil. He didn't have much influence in the Pearsons, but he gave me food, clothes, and comfort. He took me shopping, ate with me, and went on dates with me, spoiling me completely.

Everyone in the Pearsons knew how close we were.

Later, Mike suddenly died from poisoning, and Phil inherited the family business.

My status in the Pearsons skyrocketed overnight.

Tilda was jealous. One day, while I was out shopping, she rammed her car into mine, dragging me with her into death.

-

"Sure, Dad. I like Mike a lot anyway," I said with a smile, walking over to sit beside Mike.

I had to admit, his presence was overwhelming. The moment I sat down, it felt as if a wave of icy air had surrounded me, choking off my words.

No wonder Tilda had been beaten so badly in her last life.

I tried to hear his thoughts, but there was nothing—he didn't think a single word.

But when Phil smiled at Tilda, I caught his thoughts.

[Such a pretty little thing.]

A chill ran through my entire body.

Without thinking, I grabbed Mike's hand.

Even though he had a cold personality, his hand was surprisingly warm.

He glanced down at me because of my sudden move.

I quickly let go, and he stayed quiet.

This man looked terrifying, but honestly, I'd rather stick with him than fall into Phil's poisonous trap.

This time, I was determined to change my fate.

I was going to make money, stand on my own, and never rely on anyone.

-

Tilda and I had our weddings on the same day.

It had been that way in our last life, too.

Back then, Mike hadn't shown up for the ceremony, but Phil came early. Everyone had said he was the more thoughtful husband.

And this time, it was exactly the same.

Phil showed up in a crisp white tux, rushing in to scoop Tilda into his arms.

As they passed me, Tilda gave me a smug look. "Why didn't Mike come to pick you up?"

I just smiled. "Don't worry about me. Focus on your own life."

Her smile dropped, her face darkening.

[Keep laughing. I'll see if you're still smiling once he starts hitting you.]

That was what she was thinking as she left with Phil.

But it was way too soon for her to say that. There was no guarantee who would be the one laughing in the end.

Mike didn't come to the wedding, just like last time, when he married my sister.

People started gossiping about me and giving me pitying looks.

Tilda looked even more thrilled, clinging to Phil and blurting out, "I love you, Phil."

Then she pulled him into a kiss.

That night, Mike came back.He was drunk, and the second he walked into the room, he stumbled and dragged me down with him. We both hit the floor hard."You're drunk. I'll make you some hangover soup," I said, trying to push him off, but he wouldn't budge.Instead, his hands went to his shirt, fumbling with the buttons, and those intense, possessive eyes locked on me. That was when it hit me—he wasn't actually drunk."Mike, think about what you're doing. We're just partners. You're not allowed to touch me!"He suddenly covered my mouth and whispered in my ear, "Doesn't matter. You're my wife. I'm gonna touch you because I want to."I shoved him away with all my strength."No! I'm divorcing you. You can't touch me."The words hung in the air, and the whole room went silent.Mike's face darkened."I knew it. I knew you were gonna leave me."He let go of me, looking crushed. "You're so heartless. Did you already forget about me?""What are you talking about?" I asked, confused

Mike explained, "I already told my mom to set up cameras all over the house. When we caught Phil slipping poison into the drinks, we swapped the poisoned wine with drugged wine instead. That's why the two of them passed out."Then his voice suddenly lowered. "But you seemed really scared that I'd die. Are you in love with me?"For some reason, when he said that, my heart skipped a beat."Of course not," I answered quickly. "I was just afraid that if you died, I wouldn't have anyone left to rely on."He grinned, his smile bright. "Is that so?"-Once Tilda and Phil were locked away in the basement, I finally let out a breath of relief. The two people I feared the most were out of the picture.By now, I'd made enough money. My next step was asking Mike for a divorce.I kept waiting for the right moment, but Mike had been so busy lately that he barely came home. When Phil heard what I said, he completely believed me. After all, nobody else knew about his twisted hobbies except him and Tilda. He sneered, "Just wait till I deal with that woman. Once I get rid of Mike and her, you'll be mine. I'll take care of you."With that, he walked off.Ha. Did he really think I was that stupid? There was no way I'd ever stay with him.-Right after, I went straight to Mike.Honestly, whether he lived or died wasn't supposed to matter much to me, but this time around, he had helped me a lot. He let me earn my own money and even shared his work experience with me generously. When I told him what Phil said, he looked surprised."Do you have any proof that Phil wants to hurt me?"I pulled out a recorder and played back the conversation I just had with Phil. The first part was me purposely flirting with him, and even listening to it again made me cringe."I only did that to get him to trust me," I explained quickly.Mike didn't answer, but his express

I realized right away that what I said made Mike misunderstand, so I quickly waved my hands. "No, no, that's not what I meant. I was just explaining why there was a conflict."He suddenly asked while staring right at me, "Have you ever thought about doing that kind of thing with me?""Of course not," I answered immediately. "I told you, all I want is to rely on you and live a worry-free life.""That's it?"I nodded firmly. He didn't say another word. He just stormed out and slammed the door behind him.I had no idea what I said that upset him. And honestly, I didn't want to know. All I wanted was to carry out my own plan.-The next day, Mike didn't take me with him to the company. Instead, he told me to head to the branch office on my own.So I threw myself into running the branch. Over the next few days, I followed Mike to the company and learned a lot regarding business tricks and social skills—the kind of things that really mattered. One afternoon, he surprised me by saying he'd take me out to eat. And not just anywhere—the fanciest steakhouse in town.I didn't expect to run into Tilda and Phil there.Tilda had been cutting his steak, but the moment she saw me and Mike, she dropped her knife and fork in shock. "Skye, you're here, too—" She caught herself, then quickly corrected, "Mr. Mike, Ms. Skye, you're here for dinner, too?"A second later, I heard her thoughts loud and clear.[Damn it, of all times, I had to run into her now. I can't lose face here!]"Yeah," I said with a smile. "We felt like having steak."I slipped my arm through his, and he didn't pull away.Phil scrambled to greet us politely. "Mr. Mike, Ms. Skye."Mike didn't bother replying. He just led me past them and straight to a table.Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Tilda grinding

Just as Mike was about to agree, I pushed the door open and walked in. I greeted the Ravenlandian man, then picked up the bottle of skincare serum he had developed and turned it over in my hand."I'm a woman, so I know skincare," I said. "This only has whitening ingredients. It doesn't fight wrinkles or early aging. You're an expert in this—you should know better than anyone that whitening is just a gimmick. The effects are barely noticeable. So tell me: What makes this formula worth 600 thousand?"The man froze, caught off guard.Mike leaned back in his chair, clearly entertained, and didn't stop me.That told me he was letting me speak freely. So I grew bolder. "That said, this is an imported product, and you've already built up buzz on social media. People recognize your brand and trust it. So, here's what I'll offer you." I held up two fingers."Two hundred thousand?" he asked, surprised."Jake, 200 thousand is already a very generous offer. Think it over," Mike said, eyes
