“Sir,” Asher called me panicking,
I ignored him, pressing my laptop in the office. He hurriedly shut down the windows and locked the office door. I raised my head to look at him, he seemed sweating and out of space. “Boss, she called the police on you?” “Who?” I asked, looking at his frightened look. “The one who saw him last. Who reported it if not her.” Asher respounded, as his expression changed. “Boss, What will you do? The police are downstairs already coming up. “Open the windows, stop making us look suspicious. Don't worry I will handle it my way.” I replied, and he made the office glasses visible. He went out to direct the police men into the office. He looked so frightened, and out of place. I wondered why Aurora would report us to the police, she never asked me what the man's crime was . I thought she was just frightened and wouldn't say anything. I am quite surprised that she would call the police on me. What an interesting girl. The police men walked into my office, they looked all serious like I killed a man. Asher confronted them, as they entered my office. “My Boss can't talk but he hears due to his hearing aid.” The police man nodded “Sir Rylan, a report came saying that you tied a man with chains. He was bleeding from intentional injuries inflicted by you.” I picked up a paper to write my response, but my mother came in. She walked majestically into my office, her face filled with sweet smiles. Her Hazel color eyes glittering like the sun, her pretty face like that of a woman in her early 30s. She brings out her hand for a handshake with the officer, “I am Raine Blackwood.” “Officer, please I will take it from here. He is my son, I will interrogate him myself.” The police men bowed their heads in greeting and left us while Asher left with them. “This is why I was against a dumb man taking the CEO seat.” My mom sneered, giving me a disgusted look. I ignored her picking up my paper diary to reply to her. She drags it, flinging it outside, her face filled with accomplishment after doing that. “When will you learn how to speak? I feel so disgusted being around you. A grown man of 30 years still picks up a paper like a little kid before he can talk. Disgusting!! I feel so ashamed when people ask me if you are my son.” Raine Blackwood spat, her face turned sour while she looked at me. “Why not just give up the seat. My son will take over from you.” I raised my head to look at her, sometimes I wondered if she was really my mother. I know she hated me because of my father. I sniffed in the tears threatening to fall. But a grown man cannot cry because he will look weak. I am a man now, not a kid seeking his mothers love. I just see myself as one of the unlucky kids that met a bad mother. I picked up another writing diary because I have a lot of them in the office. I used it to communicate with workers. “What do you want,” I wrote on the paper. “Tsk! Tsk!! Tsk!!( her face disgusted as she picked the paper) it's simple!! Just sign here, to give my son our surname. Your grandfather refused my son to bear our surname Blackwood. Sign here and I will stop the police investigation.” She stated, flashing fake smiles at me. I wrote again, “What makes you think that I will do that? Who are you to order me?” She chuckled and stood up from my office couch, “You took one of my men, the one I sent to follow you and report your every move. My Lover has been missing, and I believe you are holding him. Don't think so much about today's event, your wife reported you and she said she can testify against you.” “So Rylan, do you want the investigation to start? Don't you think it will affect the mall construction? Tomorrow's headlines will be "CEO RyLan got arrested for attempted murder, I believe the media will feast on such news. Rylan the ball is now in your court. Sign here and Everybody will be happy.” **-*** AuRORa POV The rain was falling heavily, but I was in a very good mood. I was singing while I put my clothes into my luggage. Ohh yes I am happy, I just reported my husband to the police. There is no way this marriage won't end once he gets arrested. “This vase looks expensive!!” I picked up two white porcelain vase on my table. “If I sell this I will get lots of money right? I am not stealing right? I am just taking my alimony since I can't request for a share of property. After all, it's been just two days since I got married.” I hurriedly put it in my box. If my mom asked me why I came back, I will just say my husband got arrested. So the marriage has ended. “Ohh smart me!!” I dragged my box downstairs, the maid Rhoda had already left for the day. Before I could take a step down the stairs, I remembered my hair dryer. I left my suitcase and rushed to my bathroom to fetch the missing item. I hurried out after picking it and forced It into my box. “Eh eh mm” I heard someone clear his throat, I looked up only to meet Rylan and Asher down the stairs. The both of them stood side by side, looking up at me. Our gazes at each other were very intense, I felt like running away but how do I do it? My heart skipped a beat as I felt cold running down my spine. A scene I forgot flashed through my mind, the murder scene that I forgot. It was them, they stood exactly as they did that night. The images of them vividly appeared in my memory. The man with the baseball bat was Rylan. He killed a man and I saw it. Is that the reason why he married me? To shut my mouth forever? How did he escape the police station? Am I part of their game? Will they also kill me? How did I get into this situation? I need to call the police!!!! I shifted backward as they climbed the stairs coming to me. I screamed and fell down with my butt hitting the hard floor.RYLAN POV.I touched her face lovingly, she was putting on a face mask. But I noticed something wasn't right with her eye brows. Did they shave it during surgery? Her brows were fewer, when I know Aurora had thicker eye brows like an Italian. My instinct kicked in, I pulled off the mask. I was so surprised and shocked by what I saw.I stood close to her, my hands shaking. I was very confused so I covered her face with the mask.I turned to Red standing just behind me.“I’m sorry, Rylan,” he said, his voice low and heavy with grief. “I couldn’t save your wife. She was such a good girl.”The sorrow in her tone seemed to cut deep, but she didn’t know, none of them knew that this wasn’t Aurora. Even the doctor also thinks she was Aurora. Before I could speak, a woman burst into the room, her wailing piercing the air. She dropped to her knees beside the bed and clutched the supposed Aurora’s limp body, rocking as if to pull life back into her.“I’m sorry, baby girl… oh, how I wish I knew!
Nicky POVThe hospital was in chaos that evening. I had used a tracker to find her, after tracking her to the hospital. I once promised myself not to use a tracker on her again, but since I don't know where she lives now. I had to use the tracker to find her. I was scared why she was in the hospital? When I got to the OR, some patients were crying. I got scared if anything had happened to Aurora. Then I saw Aurora, she was unconscious, so I stood around to watch her, because I didn't trust the faces I saw. I saw Orla and her mother Fiona, the way they were acting made me nervous, it seems they were up to no good I was there when they wheeled Aurora through the double doors, heading to the surgical dressing room. The sight almost stopped my heart. Her hair stuck to her damp face, her lips pale. Seeing her made my heart sink, what had happened? I stayed in the shadows, my hoodie pulled up, pretending to be another visitor. The tracker I’d slipped into her earrings weeks ago had al
The city lights blurred past the window as Asher drove. My fingers tapped against my thigh, restless at every second feeling heavier than the last. I clenched my iPad in my lap, trying to steady my breathing, but the thought wouldn’t leave me, if I’m late, they’ll cut her leg.The phone call from Anne echoed in my head, restless and scared.“They’re trying to amputate Aurora’s leg. Right now.” She announced on the phone.“No…” I muttered under my breath, rubbing at my chest as if I could push down the weight pressing there. Aurora’s face flashed in my mind, her sad face that always showed, her fake smiles and her stubborn glare. The way she always tried to be happy around me even when her body couldn’t keep up that false facade. I can't lose her, there must be a reason why Grandfather left her to me. Then, BANG!!! A car hit ours from the back. The car jolted violently, tires screeching against the road. Asher cursed, slamming on the brakes. A dark SUV cut across the road, blocking us
RYLAN POVI stared at my phone as it rang. It was Anne’s name. I ignored it because I was very angry that Alberto kept me.waiting for hours. The board room was empty and quiet like a graveyard. It was after I tried convincing the Italians to leave. They said the Alberto company told them they didn't sell spring wine to us. Alberto is just acting smart since he is now working with Raine. How could he keep me waiting for hours?Asher opens the door and comes in, “Boss, I think we should go. You know Alberto is a Mafia. He just doesn't care about our collaboration.”I nodded my head, “I will give him one minute, if he isn't here. We will leave.”One minute later, I picked up my iPad and tucked it under my arm. I turned toward the exit, only for the main door to burst open. Two guards stormed in first, tense and watchful. Then a man followed, walking with the kind of arrogance only money could buy. He wore a sleek black tuxedo that screamed expensive taste.I scoffed under my breath an
The HOSPITAL – LATE NIGHT – AURORA’S PRIVATE WARD FLOORThe corridors were unusually quiet. The air was thick with disinfectant. It was so cold, quiet and good for crime.Red Blackwood moved gracefully, with a smug face- as she exited Aurora’s ward. She had just finished checking in on the sleeping girl and was heading down the hall when she heard hushed voices in the doctor’s room across the corridor. She paused and peeped into the room but she couldn't hear it.Inside, Fiona stood too close to Dr. Arnold, her tone sugary, but her words anything but sweet.“…I’m just saying,” Fiona whispered, pushing a small velvet pouch across the table. “You said she hasn’t regained consciousness because the infection’s spreading. We both know where that leads.”Dr. Arnold looked down at the pouch, expression tense.“Mrs. Fiona Grey, that's a very serious course of action. I am a Doctor not an assassin."She leaned forward, eyes sharp. “You just have to say her broken leg got infected from the wat
HOSPITAL ROOM – ORLA AND FIONAOrla lay on the hospital bed, a tissue pressed to her nose, sniffling softly. Her eyes were red and puffy, her pride more bruised than her body. She kept tossing in the bed, while cursing out Aurora. The door opened and Fiona stepped in, heels clicking sharply against the floor. The moment she saw her daughter lying there, her expression softened.“My baby girl,” she said, rushing to her side.“Mummy…” Orla cried, spreading out her hands wide. “She pushed me…mummy.”Fiona pulled her into a gentle hug, stroking her back.“It’s alright. I’m here now. She’s going to pay for this, I swear,” she murmured, holding her close. “No one gets to hurt my baby like this.”Orla hiccupped, wiping her face and running nose. “That’s not even the worst part.”Fiona leaned back, concerned. “What happened?”“My hair…” Orla sniffed again, her mouth pouting like a baby. “My extensions fell off in the water. People saw. They were laughing, mum. Laughing. You know I’ve always t
