LOGIN3rd Person POV
Late afternoon was slowly giving way to evening when Suzy finished gathering all the trash inside their house. She needed to take it out and leave it by their gate so that even if she failed to wake up early the next morning, there would be no garbage left inside their house.
Carrying a medium-sized black plastic bag, she stepped outside. Across from their house stood a trash bin made from an old car tire, and she placed the bag there. After dusting off her hands, she was about to head back inside when she noticed Alexander standing in front of his house.
“Hi! Good afternoon,” the young man greeted her with a smile.
Her heart immediately began to race. “Hello, Alexander.”
“Are you alone at home again?” he asked.
He walked toward her until they were standing face to face. She hadn’t had coffee earlier, but for some reason, it felt like she had already drunk three cups. “A-ah, yes,” she replied shyly.
Why was she suddenly so timid? What was wrong with her? “Perfect timing. I was about to grab some coffee outside. Do you want to come with me?” he asked casually.
Her eyes widened. “S-sure, but what about Lola Esme? Is there someone with her?” Despite her flustered state, she couldn’t stop herself from worrying about the old woman.
“No, don’t worry. She’s sleeping.”
“B-but—”
He moved behind her and gently pushed her forward so they could start walking. “W-wait!”
“Why?” he asked, frowning slightly.
“I need to wash my hands first. I just took out the trash,” she explained, feeling embarrassed.
He stared at her face and his expression softened, that made her face look like a tomato. “Oh, okay. Go ahead.”
She hurried back inside, quickly washing her hands and even changing her clothes since they were going out for coffee. After making sure the house was secure, she finally joined him.
“What do you usually drink in cafés like this?” Alexander asked.
They were already standing in front of the cashier, but someone was still ordering, giving them time to decide.
“Anything, as long as it’s not too sweet,” she answered.
“Okay. How about the bread?” he asked. “...pork floss bun for me. What about you?”
She tilted her head up to look at him, and he slightly bent down so they were at eye level.
“I love Spanish lattes and almond croissants.”
“Nice choice. I think I’ll get a Spanish latte too,” he said. “Anything else?”
“Hmm, make the almond croissants two,” she replied.
When it was their turn, they ordered everything and even added a few more pastries. “You eat a lot too, huh?” he teased with a grin.
She felt embarrassed. “Not really. Just when I like the food.”
“What kind of food do you like? Maybe I can cook for you.”
“Oh, are you a chef?” she asked, feeling impressed.
He chuckled and shook his head and put his latte into desk. “No, I’m a businessman, but cooking is my hobby.”
She took a sip of her Spanish latte before speaking. “It’s attractive when a man knows how to cook.”
“Oh really?” he asked, clearly amused as he stared at her.
She quickly looked away, feeling as if his gaze could swallow her whole. He looked especially handsome to her, with features that hinted at mixed heritage. “Is that what you like in men?”
He teased and then he put its chin in its hands.
Her cheeks flushed instantly. “N-no, not exactly. I’m just saying it’s nice when men know how to cook, that’s it,” she said defensively, nearly stuttering over her words. He seemed even more entertained, making her wish she could disappear like magic.
“Well, I can really cook. What’s your favorite dish? I’ll make it for you.” He stared at her and said, “You look so skinny.”
“No, it’s okay. I can just order outside whenever I want to eat my favorites,” she replied.
“Nope. Are you sure the places you order from are clean? Are they HACCP-approved?”
He asked playfully before taking a bite to her pork floss bun. She unconsciously followed his movement, noticing that he didn’t seem bothered at all.
“I’m not sure, but—”
“I’ll cook for you,” he said firmly, ending the discussion.
“Their pork floss bun is really good,” he commented.
She simply watched him eat her pork floss bun, she just took the almond croissant in the tray. It was delicious too, so it didn’t matter that he had eaten her favorite pork floss bun. “That looks good,” he said, glancing at what she was holding.
Her eyes widened when he suddenly held her hand and took a bite from the bread she was holding.
She swallowed the almond croissant in no time, and the piece of bread almost got stuck in her throat. She grabbed her Spanish latte immediately and took a quick sip. “Are you okay?” he asked, still holding her hand.
“Yeah, I’m okay.”
“Do you want to order more? Their bread is really good.”
She could only stare as he picked up her Spanish latte and drank from it. What was the point of his own order if he kept eating and drinking hers?
Her cheeks turned crimson.
They stayed at the café for another half hour, talking mostly about him—his days in America, his favorite subjects, random things about their lives. Time passed so quickly that they barely noticed. Eventually, they decided to go home since she still had school the next day.
“Thank you for treating me. Next time, it’s my turn,” Suzy said.
“Sure. I’ll be waiting for that,” he replied with a grin.
She nodded. “Thank you again. I should go. I think my parents are home.” She had seen their car parked outside earlier. Usually, they came home together.
“Bye. See you tomorrow.” She smiled and turned away.
She never imagined a day would come when the two of them would go out together like that. When she entered their house, no one was there. She simply shrugged and went to her room.
Enjoy!
3rd Person POVA slap immediately landed on Suzy’s face the moment Alexander’s mother saw her. Her head snapped to the side, and she froze where she stood. “What did you do to our mother?” Mrs. Moreno cried out tearfully.“Hon, stop it. It’s not her fault.” Alexander’s father stepped in front of his wife to stop her. She blamed herself for what happened to Lola Esme, but now that someone is blaming her now, she blamed and hated herself even more.Suzy knew they were not wrong. She was at fault. She slowly fell to her knees. “Please forgive me. There’s no way I can repay what I’ve done,” she whispered. She wanted to cry, but it felt as though her tears had already hardened. Nothing would come out anymore.Alexander could not come home because there had suddenly been a problem with some of his documents, so only his parents were able to come for Lola Esme.“You have no conscience! You let mama end up in that condition, and you’re not ashamed! Is this how you repay her after everything sh
3rd Person POV“Where is Lola Esme? Please take me to her,” Suzy said tearfully to the nurse standing in front of her.The moment she woke up from fainting, Lola Esme was the first person she remembered. “Please calm down, miss. You might faint again,” the nurse said gently. She tried to calm herself, but tears continued to stream down her face.“Mrs. Moreno is currently still in the intensive care unit, and the doctors are doing everything they can to stabilize her condition,” the nurse explained.Suzy felt irritated because it seemed like the nurse was unaffected by everything happening right now. Maybe it was because scenes like this had already become normal for nurses every single day.“C-can I see her now?” she asked weakly. The nurse simply nodded and adjusted Suzy’s intravenous line. She forced herself to calm down and tried not to cry because she was afraid the nurse would refuse to take her to Grandma Esme if she kept breaking down. Just like they agreed, the nurse guided her
3rd Person POV“Is Grandma Esme alright now?” Alexander asked from the other end of the line. She was standing in the hospital corridor, and today was the day she and Lola Esme would finally go home. The doctor had just made sure that Lola Esme could already breathe comfortably before allowing them to leave.“She’s alright, Alex. I just need to take care of the hospital bills,” she replied.“Thank you so much, Suzy. Don’t worry, I’ll be back soon.”“It’s nothing, what are you saying? Lola Esme isn’t just anyone to me, she was already a family, so you don’t need to thank me,” she said. She leaned against the wall, staring straight at the opposite side while still focusing on the man she was speaking to.“Suzy,” Alexander called her name gently. Her heart started beating faster, and she swallowed hard. “Uh huh?”“Can we go out when I get back?” he asked hesitantly, though his nervousness was obvious. She didn’t know what to answer him. For a few seconds, she remained silent.“Let’s just
3rd Person POV“Suzy, you’re already awake. Good morning,” Lola Esme greeted her with a smile.Suzy walked over and gently hugged the elderly woman from behind. “Good morning. You woke up so early.”As soon as she got out of bed, she instinctively looked for the old woman, and just as expected, she found her in the kitchen. Cooking for their breakfast.“That’s how it is when you get older—” the old woman stopped mid-sentence when she suddenly coughed.“Grandma Esme,” Suzy said worriedly as the cough seemed to trouble her.She stepped back a little and gently rubbed the old woman’s back. “W-what are you? I’m fine—” the elderly woman coughed again.“I think it’s because it was cold last night.” Suzy took a glass and filled it with lukewarm water. “And you were wearing something too thin,” she added, sounding like a concerned parent.“It’s nothing, it will be gone tomorrow,” the old woman said.Suzy simply shook her head and handed her the glass. “Here, please drink this. 3rd Person POV “Suzy, you’re here!” She straightened up immediately when Alexander entered the yard. She discreetly wiped her face and glanced at the old woman. “Alexander, you’re already here. Come sit with us so you can have some snacks,” Lola Esme said to her grandson with a smile. She let go of the old woman and quietly sat beside her, while the young man took the seat she had been using earlier. “Thanks, Grandma. How are you, Suzy? Grandma Esme and I didn’t see you this morning.” She cleared her throat. “Ahh, my parents were there earlier, so I stayed inside to spend some time with them,” she reasoned out. She was about to take her plate when the young man suddenly grabbed the fork she had been using and took a bite of the biko she had already eaten from. She grimaced slightly and cleared her throat again. “Alexander, my grandson. Is that yours? That belongs to Suzy,” the old woman said sternly. The young man looked at her and grinned. “It’s mine now. I already ate it,” he
3rd Person POVAfter their conversation last night, she was no longer surprised when she found that her parents’ belongings were already gone the next day. She let out a dry laugh. “What else should I expect? They never really cared about their child,” she said with a smirk. She stared at the ceiling, lying lifelessly on her bed. Anyone who saw her would think she looked utterly miserable. They would still provide for her and had promised not to neglect her needs. But was that really what she needed? Her heart had shattered once again. What could she do if the two of them were the ones who wanted to separate?Tears streamed down her face. Her dream of having a happy family had truly fallen apart. She pulled her blanket over herself, but quickly removed it when she heard someone knocking on the door of their house. She turned toward her bedroom door, as if the sound had come from there.“Suzy! Are you there?!” Her blood rushed through her veins when she heard Lola Esme’s voice. She imme
