로그인Everything unfolded exactly as I had predicted. Right after I finished breakfast, the children ran over and hugged me, excitedly speaking with sparkling eyes.
“Big sis, there’s a really big and cool car in front of the gate. Is it a rich person coming to adopt someone?”
I smiled and patted their heads.
“I don’t know either. Maybe it’s just like you said.”
I was still wondering how to respond to them when a group of people walked up to me and bowed deeply in a respectful greeting.
The children clinging to my legs were startled by them and quickly hid behind my back. A middle-aged man in a suit stepped forward and began introducing himself.
“Greetings, miss. I am the butler of the Oliver family. Today, we have come to bring you back home, young lady.”
Everything was almost identical to my memories. This man was the first one who had planted the hope of a good family in my heart.
Although I already knew the story, I still pretended to be surprised and asked.
“Is there some kind of mistake? I’m just an orphan raised by the orphanage, not some noble young lady you’re looking for.”
The butler looked at me with a smile, but his eyes were cold and devoid of emotion, making me startled for a brief moment.
“Why didn’t I notice this expression before?”
I thought to myself.
Not making me wait long, the butler explained in a short and simple manner.
“This is the truth that has been confirmed by the head of the orphanage. The Oliver family lost their precious daughter and has never stopped searching. Now, all efforts have been rewarded upon learning that you are safe and have grown into such a fine young lady.”
At this point, the butler suddenly paused slightly. He looked at me with a strange expression, and for some reason, his words sounded reluctant to my ears.
“The master and madam, your biological parents, have always longed for the day they could meet you again. Please pack your belongings and return home with us.”
It was indeed a concise explanation, enough to answer questions and stir emotions.
Of course, that was in the past.
I remembered that time when the butler came to me with this same story. I had been so overjoyed that I cried and kept asking again and again.
“Is that true? It’s not a mistake, right? My parents have really been searching for me all this time?”
Thinking back, I had endured too many hardships during those years, working all kinds of jobs just to make ends meet. So when I learned that I was actually a wealthy young lady, I was incredibly happy.
But that was only a small part of the reason. The greatest reason that made me disregard everything and blindly believe was because I longed for a family too much.
I had always waited for the appearance of my parents, people whose faces I did not even know, yet dreamed of every night. Perhaps at that time, I lacked love too deeply, so when I found out that my family had never abandoned me, I felt that happiness and hope so strongly.
All of that hope was shattered after I arrived at the Oliver mansion and was used, then fell into a life like a nightmare.
Returning to reality, the butler saw me lost in thought and spoke to urge me.
“Please make your preparations quickly and come with us. Your parents are waiting for their daughter to return and reunite with the family.”
I shrugged and replied in a flat tone, no longer filled with happiness like before.
“Alright, then please wait for me for a moment.”
After that, I was taken to the Oliver mansion under the escort of an imposing group of bodyguards.
Sitting in the car, I began to notice things I had never seen before.
From the moment I stepped in, everyone treated me with proper courtesy and formality, but in truth, they had no real emotion toward a stranger like me.
The butler spoke politely and properly, yet looked at me with judgment in his eyes, his attitude nothing more than cold indifference.
He kept saying that my parents had never stopped searching for me and were eagerly waiting to reunite.
Then why didn’t they come to pick me up themselves, but instead sent servants?
Before, I had never paid attention to this. Now I realized that it had all been a lie. I frowned and let out a mocking smile.
“So there was no search, no expectation. From the very beginning, no one ever thought of bringing back a lost daughter to burden themselves.”
Perhaps that was why the bodyguards looked at me with such surprise.
Bringing me back was only because their precious adopted daughter had fallen into an unavoidable arranged marriage. With no other way to resolve it, they suddenly remembered their long-lost biological daughter, that is me.
I let out a long breath and leaned my head against the window, murmuring to myself.
“They’re just looking for a replacement, a disposable product. I’m nothing more than a tool they remembered when needed, only to discard afterward. How was I so foolish in my previous life to believe everything they said?”
Stepping out of the car, I stood still and looked at the luxurious gates of the mansion before me. I no longer remembered what I had felt the first time I saw it, because now, all I felt was disgust and deep aversion.
I knew that beyond those gates were people who shared my blood, yet treated me no differently than sworn enemies.
The butler stepped forward and reminded me when he saw that I had been standing there for too long.
“Please proceed inside. The master and madam are waiting.”
I did not want to respond to him, so I simply shrugged in agreement and walked forward. Just as I approached the door, a piercing scream came from inside, as if it could tear through my eardrums.
Chapter 149: Giving Up PaintingLina looked at me with surprise in her eyes, but right after glancing at the two children, she seemed to understand something and immediately nodded.Together, we headed to the biggest amusement park in the city. While Lina went to buy tickets, I held the children's hands and asked,“Have you two ever been here before?”Lilya and Ryan shook their heads. I smiled. Of course, these two children didn't have as many childhood memories as other kids. Leo had always tried to make up for the lack of affection in many ways, but as the head of the family, he couldn't devote all his time to being by their side. Both of them had missed out on so much, so I wanted to make up for it with small but memorable experiences like this. After we entered, Lilya and Ryan became excited when they saw everyone having fun. But when I asked what they wanted to ride, they both looked confused and couldn't decide.Lina and I put our hands on our hips, looked at each other, and lau
Chapter 148: His RequestI smiled softly, feeling a pang of heartache as I gently wiped the tears from Lilya's cheeks and said,"You've worked hard. Thank you for staying strong all this time."Lilya pouted and replied sourly,"Why are you thanking me for that? It's not like I've done anything good for you."I laughed and answered gently,"It's just that I think someone should tell you those things. The adults failed to take good care of you, and you've been trying your best on your own. Isn't that something adults should be grateful for?"Those words made Lilya burst into tears. I pulled her into my arms and gently patted her back to comfort her.I knew that during this time, Lilya had been carrying burdens that someone her age should never have had to endure. Even so, she had remained incredibly strong. Not just Lilya, but Ryan as well. That only made me angrier. Why couldn't Bianca, as their mother, understand something so simple? Compared to reclaiming her place, did she really no
Chapter 147: StubbornnessWatching Lilya's dejected figure walk away, Sumire and I looked at each other and sighed. I rubbed Sumire's head and said,"Congratulations. You did great."Sumire remained silent, her eyes filled with sadness. I knew that winning against someone who was both her rival and her best friend in this way made it impossible for her to feel happy. But there was nothing we could do except stand and watch. I felt terrible that I couldn't help Lilya, but at this point there was nothing I could do for her anymore.Perhaps this was a hardship she had to overcome on her own. After greeting the director and asking about a few important details regarding the film crew's shooting schedule, Sumire and I said goodbye to the teachers and headed home together. As we walked out of the audition hall, Sumire and I were planning to get something to eat together to celebrate her success when we suddenly saw Bianca loudly scolding Lilya.Bianca angrily shoved Lilya's shoulder, causin
Chapter 146: I Can't Get Married for a Third TimeI raised an eyebrow, crossed my arms, and asked back,“What are you apologizing for? You haven't done anything wrong to me.”Leo gave a bitter smile and replied softly,“I'm sorry for everything I've done. Your life changed because of me, after all.”What Leo said wasn't wrong. If it weren't for his appearance in my life, I would have lived a very peaceful existence. That peace could even be called an ordinary life with nothing particularly remarkable about it.But how should I put it? I didn't feel that Leo's appearance had been a mistake. At the very least, because of him, I have been able to do many things that would have been impossible if I were still Ella from the orphanage. In this vast world, no matter how big my dreams were, without support and money, I wouldn't have been able to accomplish anything. Leo was the one who gave me the opportunity to change everything, so I had no reason to blame him.I shrugged and answered casua
Chapter 145: Just Don't Expect AnythingI secretly laughed to myself.Lina was far more straightforward and sharp-tongued than I was. Bianca had truly picked the wrong person to provoke. The irritated expression on Bianca's face was honestly quite amusing. She probably never expected that after disappearing for several years, she would return only to find herself an outsider within her own family. It was a painful truth. And the cause of it all was Bianca herself. She had personally destroyed the trust of the people who had once loved and cared for her.Bianca gritted her teeth in anger. She shot Lina a sharp look and said,"Lina, no matter what, I'm still a few years older than you, and I'm the biological mother of the twins. You're only Leo's cousin. This is a family matter, and it's not your place to interfere."Lina immediately burst into laughter until tears formed in her eyes."Not my place to interfere? Bianca, you're really getting carried away with your act! Have you looked a
Chapter 144: Scolding BiancaWhen Lilya heard me say that, she immediately froze. She stepped forward, lightly holding one of my fingers as she softly asked,"Can't we stay here and keep playing?"I glanced at Ryan. The boy silently looked at me with a gloomy expression. It was obvious that neither of them wanted to leave.Perhaps Lilya, Ryan, and even Leo were hoping that I would ask them to stay, but I couldn't do that.Things were no longer the same between us. I shouldn't give them any more reasons to keep hoping for something that would never happen.Although this cold behavior was somewhat cruel to two young children, I had no other choice.Leo sighed. With a bitter smile, he quietly said to me,"You... don't have anything else to say to me besides this?"I looked away, avoiding Leo's gentle gaze.Seeing my determination, Leo did not force the matter any further. He took the children's hands and said,"Alright, you two, say goodbye to Aunt Ella, then we'll go home together."The
