EDEN

I stand at the sink rinsing Nora's dinner plate, my mind replaying the fact that Hayden barely touched his food tonight. He pushed the salmon around his plate, gave Nora a few weak smiles, then excused himself early, saying he was tired. He didn't even finish his water.

He's slipping again.

I dry my hands and head upstairs. Nora is already in her pajamas, clutching her favourite stuffed teddy. She looks so small in her toddler bed, her dark curls spread across the pillow like a hal

  • Married To My Billionaire Nemesis   133: THE TESTS

HAYDEN The hotel room is smaller than I expected. Nothing fancy. Just a bed, a couch, a television mounted to the wall, and a small table shoved into the corner beside the window. Jeremy closes the door behind me and immediately starts fidgeting."Do you want water?" he asks. "Or coffee? Or juice? I think there's orange juice in the mini fridge."He stops abruptly. "Oh."He lets out a weak laugh. "Right. I'm the one getting drugged."I smile despite myself. "Something like that."Jeremy rubs the back of his neck.I spent the entire night thinking about what Eden said. Drugging him feels wrong. If he's telling the truth, forcing him to relive that kind of helplessness would make me no better than the people who hurt him.So instead, I'm testing something else. His character and instincts."Can I sit down first?" I ask. "I'm feeling a little unwell."Jeremy's expression softens right away. "Yeah. Of course."He guides me towards the couch with careful hands, as if he's worried th

  • Married To My Billionaire Nemesis   132: The Reverse

EDEN Ava finds me near the front counter. She’s looking a little flushed and way too pleased with herself."Okay, but who was that?" she asks the second she reaches me, her eyes wide. "Because I just walked out of your office and nearly tripped over my own feet. Eden. He's stupid hot. The tattoos? The long hair? The lip ring? I felt like I was being personally attacked."I try to smile, but it comes out weak.Ava doesn't seem to notice at first. She keeps going, dramatically fanning herself with one hand."I asked for his number, and he actually gave it to me. Like, wrote it on my palm and everything. I almost passed out. I think I might be in love. Or at least in very intense lust."She finally pauses when she realizes I'm not really reacting. Her expression changes as she studies my face."Hey... you okay?"I open my mouth, but nothing comes out right away. My eyes drift across the boutique until they land on Hayden. He's sitting alone in the far corner near the window,

  • Married To My Billionaire Nemesis   131: Bleeding Soul

JEREMY I wake up on the floor of the office with my stomach still throbbing like someone's twisting a knife inside me. At first, I don't remember where I am. Then it all comes back.I push myself up slowly, wincing as pain shoots across my abdomen. My shirt is damp with sweat. I must've passed out for a while.I glance around the empty office. They're gone.Shit.I probably looked pathetic. Curled up on the floor like that, shaking and asking for painkillers like some weak little bitch. Hayden probably thinks I'm putting on a show. Or worse... that I'm hiding something.I drag a hand down my face and let out a shaky breath.Hayden has enough shit to deal with. He doesn't need me showing up and immediately becoming another problem.I press the heel of my hand against my stomach, trying to ease the ache. The scar pulls tight under my shirt, and I grit my teeth.I can already picture the look on his face if I told him how I got it. The horror. The pity. The rage. I don't want any

  • Married To My Billionaire Nemesis   130: Doubting Thomas

EDEN We move into the rear office. It's small but private, with just enough room for the three of us plus Nora, who is currently sitting on the floor near my desk, quietly playing with a set of soft blocks. Hayden closes the door behind us. Jeremy takes the chair across from the desk while Hayden leans against the wall, his arms crossed. I sit behind my desk. Jeremy rubs his palms against his thighs, clearly still a little nervous, but his voice is steady when he starts speaking. "I've been tracking The Pack for almost two years now," he says. "I don't have everything, but I have more than what's been made public." He reaches into his jacket and pulls out a small black flash drive. He places it on the desk between us. "There's a list on here," he continues. "Not just low-level members. I have names of people who fund them. Judges, cops, lawyers, and businessmen. People who make sure cases get buried and evidence disappears. I also have locations. Buildings they rotate thr

  • Married To My Billionaire Nemesis   129: Where The Heart Is

HAYDEN Jeremy looks nothing like the chubby kid I used to know. His dark hair hangs past his shoulders now, and tattoos disappear under his clothes. There's a silver ring through his bottom lip and another in one ear. He's broad and solid. Dangerous, even. And yet his foot hasn't stopped bouncing beneath the table since I sat down.Every loud noise makes his shoulders twitch. When a plate crashes somewhere behind the counter, he flinches so hard that coffee spills over the rim of his cup.His hand slips beneath the table for a second, like he's instinctively checking for a weapon or mapping out the nearest exit. He doesn't even seem aware he's doing it.My chest tightens. If I was a little wary about his sudden approach, the doubts are nearly nonexistent now.I know that reaction. I know it too well."Jer."He straightens immediately, trying to play it off."What?""Relax."He lets out a short, empty laugh. "That's funny."I don't smile. "Wasn't supposed to be."For a moment,

  • Married To My Billionaire Nemesis   128: When Boys Become Men

JEREMY My foot won't stop bouncing under the table.I've tried pressing both feet flat against the floor, but the second I manage it, one of them starts up again. My hands are shoved deep into my jacket pockets, my fingers curled so tightly that my nails are digging into my palms. I keep chewing on the inside of my bottom lip until it stings.Stop it. You're going to look crazy.I glance around the café again. Every time someone laughs too loudly or a chair scrapes against the floor, my shoulders twitch. I hate how jumpy I still am. I thought I was getting better. This was a bad idea. But then the thought of seeing Hayden again pushes the fear back down. We were best friends once. Before everything in my life went to hell. Before my family moved. Before The Pack ruined whatever was left of me.I just... I needed to see him. Even if he doesn't remember me. Even if this ends with him looking at me like I'm a stranger.I pick up my coffee with both hands, trying to hide how badly
