**Aurora's POV**

I stared at the pregnancy strip sitting on the edge of the sink, my heart pounding so fast I could barely breathe.

*Please,* I whispered to the empty bathroom, closing my eyes tight. *Just let it be two lines this time. Please, just once.*

When I finally forced myself to open my eyes and look down, I felt sick.

One single pink line. Negative. Again.

A sob broke out of my throat before I could stop it. My legs completely gave out, and I just slid down the bathroom door until I was sitting flat on the cold floor, burying my face in my hands. I just sat there crying, everything blurring around me.

Three years. It had been exactly three years since I walked down the aisle, so happy, thinking I was starting the best chapter of my life. I was thirty now, and instead of a house filled with kids, I just felt completely empty.

Every single negative test felt like a reminder of how alone I really was. After the house fire took my entire family and left me an orphan with nobody left in the world, I had put all my hope into this marriage. I thought Donald was going to be my family. I was so wrong.

*Buzz.*

The loud vibration of my phone on the counter made me jump. I wiped my face with shaking fingers and reached up to grab it. My stomach dropped into a tight knot the second I saw my husband's name on the screen.

> **Donald:** *I hope you aren't wasting your day doing nothing like you always do. The kitchen better be spotless before I get home. And stop stuffing your face. You're getting wider by the minute, Aurora. It’s disgusting.*

A fresh wave of tears hit me, mixed with deep shame. I slowly dragged myself up from the floor and looked at my reflection in the mirror. It was true. The constant stress, the isolation, and the way he always picked at me had completely ruined my body. Over the last three years, I had gained so much weight, almost like my body was storing all the sadness I couldn't let out.

And Donald never let me forget it. He threw it in my face every chance he got, totally ignoring the fact that he was the one who refused to let me get a job, forcing me to stay at home all day where I had nothing to do but think.

Wiping my cheeks hard, I balled up the negative pregnancy test in some tissue, shoved it way down to the bottom of the trash can so he wouldn't find it, and walked out. I couldn't afford to sit here crying all afternoon. I had to get to the market to buy the exact groceries he demanded for dinner.

Downstairs, the quiet clinking of pots came from the kitchen. Lola, our cook, looked up the second I walked into the room. Her eyes softened, she knew that look on my face all too well. But before she could even say anything, the front door swung open, and the loud click of high heels echoed through the hallway.

"Aurora? Babe, are you home?"

It was Lily. My friend walked into the kitchen like she owned the place, wearing a tight designer dress that showed off her perfectly fit, toned body. She gave me a huge smile, but her eyes did that quick, cold sweep down my body that always made me want to shrink.

"Oh, sweetie," Lily sighed, her voice lifting in that fake, pitying way. "Are you still wearing those huge sweaters? You're letting yourself go too much, babe. You really need to get on my diet

plan. Donald is a big-shot CEO; he needs a woman who actually cares about looking good next to him."

In the corner, Lola slammed a pot down on the stove so hard it rattled. She glared at the back of Lily's head and muttered under her breath, "Mind your business."

Lily ignored her, keeping her eyes locked on me. She stepped closer, her expression shifting when she noticed my face.

"Oh, baby, come here. Come over here, come to mommy."

She reached out, grabbing my hands and leading me out of the kitchen and into the living room. She sat me down on the sofa, leaning in close. "What's wrong? What happened?"

My throat felt tight, and I couldn't hold the tears back anymore. "It was negative again, Lily," I choked out, my voice cracking. "I'm just... I'm so tired. I'm not getting any younger, and I really need a baby. Look at Jasmine, she already has two kids, and I was the one who got married first. I don't understand what's wrong with me."

Lily let out a soft sigh, patting my knee. Her face looked sympathetic, but her voice felt a bit hollow. "Oh, sweetie, don't worry. Children will come when they want to come, you understand? Everyone's time is just different. Don't stress yourself out about it. Just trust God, okay? He's going to make something work out for you eventually."

She stood up, smoothing down her tight dress, and looked at me again with a frown. "But seriously, you have to take better care of yourself, Aurora. I don't like how you're looking so fat lately. Why are you going around wearing this kind of big, baggy sweater anyway?"

Her words stung, hitting me right where I was already hurting from Donald's text. My eyes got watery all over again. I quickly looked away, trying to blink the tears back.

"Have you been crying?" Lily asked, tilting her head.

"I'm... I'm okay," I lied, forcing myself to stand up and grab my purse off the table. "I'm just heading out to the market, Lily. I need to get everything ready before Donald gets back."

"Perfect," Lily purred. She paused for a second, looking down to check her nails, a brief, hidden look flashing through her eyes. "Go ahead, sweetie. Take your time. Seriously, don't rush at all."

Aurora's POV**I became completely invisible in my own home. From the morning I moved my few belongings into the dark guest room at the far end of the east wing, the mansion belonged entirely to Lily. Donald no longer addressed me with even a shred of common decency. He was attentive to Lily in ways he had never been to me in years, escorting her down the grand staircase for meals, calling the private doctors constantly to check on her, and praising her for the simplest things. And me? I was ordered to be considerate. I was ordered to be supportive. I was explicitly told by my own husband to give Lily whatever she wanted, no matter how small or unreasonable the request."You are just a barren lowlife," Donald had told me coldly across the dining table when Lily complained about the noise of my footsteps. "Lily is giving this family a future. She holds a noble status in this house now, and you will treat her with absolute respect."His words destroyed what little pride I had left in

**Aurora's POV**When we pulled into the driveway, the front door was already wide open. Lola was standing on the porch, wrapped in a thin shawl, sobbing into her hands. The moment she saw Jasmine's car, she rushed down the steps."Oh thank God, ma'am!" Lola cried as I stepped out of the passenger side. "I was so scared! I went up to look for you and he told me you ran out! I was very worried.Jasmine marched past us, her heels clicking aggressively on the marble foyer as she guided me inside. "Lola, help her get her things. We are getting her out of this hellhole this minute”But before we could even take three steps toward the staircase, a soft, sickening chuckle echoed from the formal living room.I froze. My breath hitched in my throat as I stepped deeper into the foyer. Walking back into this mansion felt exactly like walking straight into a prison, a beautiful, gilded cage where my soul was meant to be executed.Donald walked out into the foyer, holding a glass of amber liquid

**Aurora's POV**The walls of the bedroom were closing in on me, suffocating me until my lungs burned for oxygen. I couldn't breathe. I couldn't look at Donald’s face for another second. He had already turned his back to me, climbing into our bed and pulling the sheets up, completely unbothered by the fact that he had just stripped away every single ounce of my human dignity.*A woman who couldn't even produce a single egg for three years. You are just a useless piece of skin.*The words echoed in my head, a vicious, repeating loop that shattered my mind completely. I stumbled back onto my feet, my body shaking so violently I could barely control my limbs. I didn't grab a coat. I didn't grab my shoes. I just ran.I pushed open the bedroom door and sprinted down the dark hallway, my bare feet slapping against the cold hardwood stairs. I heard Lola's bedroom door click open as I reached the foyer, her voice calling out to me in a frightened whisper, but I couldn't stop. I threw open t

**Aurora's POV**Donald aggressively slapped his hand against the wall switch, slamming the light on and flooding the room with a bright, blinding glare that made my swollen eyes sting."Why are you up so late?" he snapped, his voice rough and defensive as he towered over my chair. "You scared me. Why the hell are you sitting in the dark acting like a demon or something? Get to bed."I didn't flinch from his anger. I just tilted my head back, looking up at him through the harsh light while the misery completely consumed my soul. "I told you. I'm just waiting for my husband to get back. How was the gala, Donald?"I felt so confident and bold that, i doubted and wondered where it came from.Donald let out a harsh, mocking laugh, casually unbuttoning his cuffs. "I was surrounded by brilliant minds tonight, Aurora. And all I could think about was how lucky you are that I haven't abandoned you yet. You have no one else. You should be proud that your husband is so rich and very brilliant,

**Aurora's POV**My knees completely gave out. I would have collapsed straight onto the polished marble floor of the hotel lobby if a pair of strong arms hadn't suddenly grabbed me from behind, pulling me back into the shadows of the massive pillar."Step back, Aurora," Jasmine whispered harshly in my ear, her grip on my shoulders like iron. "Do not let them see you look this pathetic. Do not give them that satisfaction. I won't let them see you look so miserable."I spun around, my tear-filled eyes widening in absolute shock as I looked at her. "Jasmine? What are you doing here?""My husband was invited to this gala, Aurora," Jasmine said, her voice shaking with a mixture of anger and disbelief. "I’ve been trying to call you for the past thirty minutes. I was standing near the entrance when I saw Donald walk in with Lily, and my jaw literally dropped. I couldn't even believe my eyes. I was trying to call you to tell you what the hell I was seeing, not knowing you were already on yo

**Aurora's POV**I didn't sleep for a single second. I spent the entire night lying perfectly still on my side of the bed, staring at the wall while my chest burned with a pain so intense I thought my heart was actually tearing apart. Every time Donald moved or shifted in his sleep next to me, I flinched. The smell of that floral perfume was still faintly lingering in the room, mixing with the stale scent of alcohol, and it made me feel physically sick to my stomach. When the sun finally started peeked through the heavy curtains, Donald groaned and sat up. He rubbed his face, his eyes bloodshot and nasty from the hangover. He didn't even look at me as he swung his legs out of bed."Get up and make me some coffee," he muttered, his voice rough and laced with his usual morning irritation. "And make sure it’s actually hot today. Yesterday it tasted like dishwater."I slowly pushed the covers off my body, my limbs feeling heavy like lead. I didn't say a word. I couldn't. I was terrified
