LOGINDENVER'S POV How dare she?My knuckles whiten as I grip the wheel tightly, I'd insisted on driving myself because I wanted to get to Oklahoma as soon as possible. How could she leave like that? I know I said I never wanted to see her ever again but that was just an angry retort. She moved her entire life, goddammit! "You have to slow down sir, you're exceeding the speed limit." And this is why I hate having Ethan in my car. If only he'd shut the fuck up. "She left, Ethan. What if she went somewhere else? What if she went with some other man?" "I never knew you had so much interest in her." I whip my head to look at him, there's a smug grin on his face. It looks like mockery. "Wipe that smile off your face or I'll wipe it off for you." I snap. His smile transforms to full blown laughter. "Are you sure you got the right address? It looks like we're going into a forgotten village.""Apparently that'
LAURA'S POV Theo shakes his head at me, his lips pressed thinly together. "Your brother-in-law doesn't seem to like you very much." Why am I not surprised? Chuckling, I hang my good arm on his neck as he hefts me up from the ground. "What's with your husband anyway? Why isn't he looking for you?" "It's best if you don't ask questions." I heard his conversation with Denver, I'm not surprised in the least. That bastard. What good is sending someone to rescue me when you're just going to leave us stranded in the middle of nowhere? With what I heard, I now convinced that they must've gotten into a fight. My late sister Neriah and I had our issues but she could never leave me in distress no matter what I'd done. My throat constricts as tears cloud my eyes. Every day I have new regrets about taking my sister's life. Yes, I got the money and the status of 'Mrs Chadwick' but not a single day of peace. "We have to get to a
NERIAH'S POV Oklahoma's everything Lucy said. And more. Our car's currently driving on a dirt road leading to her aunt's house. There are gardens and orchards everywhere with juicy, fresh produce hanging from trees. The scent of fresh earth fills my nostrils causing my lips to expand in a smile. This is the first scent that hasn't made me nauseous, on the contrary it makes me feel like I'm drinking in the best air ever. The driver wound down the windows on my request so I could watch the farm animals scurry about in their pens. I even got to see horses grazing about! The excitement seizing my being is second to none and I'm finally grateful Lucy brought this idea to me. "You're smiling," she observes when I turn my face towards her, hoping to see where the oinking sounds of pigs are coming from. "What can I say? The air's doing me a lot of good. I don't feel nauseated any longer." "I told you," she replies in a si
DENVER'S POV My phone's been buzzing for the past hour, but no way would I go back to assisting that bastard or his wife who I've not heard from for the past three hours. That sickly excuse of a private investigator who Samuel recommended hasn't been taking his calls. He should've been here with Laura about two hours ago. I'd have told Liam but then he had to rear his ugly ungrateful head. Swinging the bottle of cold beer in my hand, I take a long sip, groaning when the content stops flowing. When my phone buzzes for the umpteenth time, I swipe the respond button snapping "What?""Mr Chadwick, I hate to break this to you but Miss Neriah submitted a resignation letter and it's been confirmed that she's left Florida." What the hell's Ethan talking about? It's seven pm, there's no way Neriah would submit a resignation by this hour, unless she submitted hours ago and no one in administration or human resource bothered to tell me
LAURA'S POV 58....59....60. That's 90 minutes. We've fucking been in the air for ninety whole minutes. What the hell's going on?My arm feels like it's gradually detracting from the rest of my body while my feet are completely numb. The men have been whispering among each other for the past hour, casting occasional glances at me. "We need to get her to a hospital," the kid says, "Her arm's fucking dislocated. And have you seen her feet? What's the use of handing her over half dead." "Theo, Theo.." the scarred one places a firm arm on his shoulder, "Why do you look like you've developed a soft spot for her already?" He glances at me and I stare back. I've dozen off a few times but the thought of being delivered to my enemies keep tormenting my sleep. "This has nothing to do with soft spots...""When we finalize the deal, we hand her over and get our money, okay?" The other one says to both of them. "They'll know wha
NERIAH’S POVAs much as I hate Florida, it's become my home. I take a final look at my now cleared up apartment. There are six packed boxes and two suitcases of my stuff. The bed, table and couch had been sold on the flea market to raise some money for me. It wasn't much, but it was a good start. This apartment is where Denver led me to having a sense of purpose, even when it involved dubiously making me his wife, and forcing me to bring his company to rank first place in the industry. Last I checked, it was on fifth place. All of that pressure and confusion helped me not to sink into depression or lose myself. I still did what I loved to do, until the affair with Denver happened. Now I have to leave all I've gained and start my life afresh. This time with a baby. His baby. Rubbing my palm over my face, I turn to respond to something Lucy's saying with a fake smile. She's been very excited about this trip since she brought it up. Last
