Damien’s Pov

I woke before sunrise, careful not to disturb Isabella as I slipped quietly out of bed. She was still deeply asleep, one arm draped across the pillow where I had been lying moments before, and I paused for a moment just watching her, thinking about how far we had come since the beginning of everything.

I made my way downstairs, determined to surprise her with breakfast before she woke up. How difficult could it possibly be? I had watched her make pancakes dozens of times.

Isabella’s POV I heard about the trouble before Isabella even told me. One of my assistants mentioned that a few sponsors had pulled out of her charity fundraiser, the big one she had been planning for months. I felt my jaw tighten with anger. Even her charity work, something she poured her whole heart into, was getting dragged down by that fake video and the ugly rumors following us everywhere.I wanted to march in and fix it myself. I wanted to call every sponsor personally and remind them exactly who they were dealing with. But when I brought it up that morning, Isabella held up her hand before I could even finish my sentence.“No,” she said firmly. “I need to handle this myself, Damien.”“Isabella, let me help. One phone call and—”“No,” she said again, softer this time, but just as sure. “If I let you fix everything for me, I’ll always be the woman who needed saving. I don’t want to be that. Not this time.”I studied her face and saw something I recognized immediately, because I

Damian’s POV The fake video kept spreading no matter what we did. Every time I thought it would slow down, another news channel picked it up and made it worse. They kept asking the same ugly question over and over: should Isabella still be part of Blackwood Holdings? It made my blood boil. She had done nothing wrong. Someone had taken real footage and twisted it into something that never happened, just to hurt her, and by hurting her, to hurt me.I was not going to sit back and let that happen.Instead of writing some soft press release that danced around the truth, I called in the best digital forensic team money could buy. I told them I didn’t care about the cost. I wanted to know exactly who made that video and exactly how they did it. At the same time, I walked straight into the legal department and told them to prepare defamation lawsuits against every single outlet that kept running the video as if it were real news.“Sue all of them,” I said. “Every outlet that knew it was fak

Isabella’s POV I tried to keep my mind on the charity gala. The guest list sat open on my desk. Flowers, music, speeches, I checked every detail twice. A few days had passed since we lost the big project. I told myself I would not let that failure own me. I would move forward. I would stay strong. My phone rang early that morning. Sophia’s name flashed on the screen. Her voice shook when I answered.“Isabella, you need to see this right now. Something terrible is happening.”My stomach dropped. “What is it?”“A video of you. It’s everywhere. Social media, news sites, everything. Open it. Please.”I put her on speaker and opened the link she sent. The screen filled with shaky footage. It showed me standing near a hotel entrance. A man I recognized as a rival CEO walked up. We talked for a few seconds. Then he handed me a thick envelope. I took it, looked around, and walked away. The video cut off there.I stared at the screen. My hands started to shake.“This never happened,” I whispe

Isabella’s POV I sat at my desk staring at the same email for the tenth time. The words blurred together. My head hurts. Sophia walked into the office with that soft smile she always wore when she knew I was pushing myself too hard.“Isabella, stop,” she said, putting her hand on my shoulder. “You’ve been working non-stop for weeks. The vow-renewal is coming up. Let’s go shopping this afternoon. Just you and me. No phones. No meetings. Please.”I looked up at her. “Sophia, I have so much left to do.”“No,” she said firmly but kindly. “You need a break. Come on. The dresses won’t try themselves on.”Something in her voice made me give in. I closed the laptop and stood up. “Alright. But only for a few hours.”We drove to the quiet boutique on the other side of town. The air inside smelled like roses and new fabric. Soft music played. Beautiful dresses hung on the racks—soft ivory, pale gold, soft pink. Sophia pulled out a long cream dress with tiny beads that caught the light.“This on

By nine the next morning, the story had already spread through half the executive floor. Damien could tell. Conversations stopped a half-beat too late when he walked past open doors. People who never bothered to hide much from him now wore careful, neutral expressions. He found the source of it outside the executive conference room. Three senior board members had gathered there with coffee they weren’t drinking. Their voices were pitched low, in the register people use when they think no one important is listening.“—not the first time her judgment’s been the variable,” one of them, Corrigan, was saying. “I’m only pointing out that since she came on, we’ve seen more volatility in strategic decisions than in the previous five years combined. Maybe it's a coincidence. Maybe it isn’t.”“She built the sustainability division from nothing,” another cut in, though without much conviction.“I’m not disputing her talent. I’m asking whether personal involvement is clouding—”“Finish that sente

The boardroom at the Reyes-Whitfield Group was built to intimidate. It had floor-to-ceiling windows and a table long enough to seat twenty people. The silence was so complete that Isabella could hear her own heartbeat as she stood up to begin. She had rehearsed this pitch until she could say it in her sleep. She’d had almost no sleep for three days. She spent that time redlining slides, checking numbers, and arguing with her sustainability team about carbon offset language until two in the morning. Blackwood Holdings had never chased a contract this big before. It was worth a billion dollars. It was a ten-year infrastructure partnership that would shape the company’s future. Isabella had built the strategy from the ground up. She was sure it was the best work she had ever done. She clicked to her first slide. She cleared her throat. She began.Four minutes in, she realized something was wrong. The murmurs started small. Board members shifted in their chairs and exchanged glances she c
