Chapter 30: Caught in the Heat

POV: Sarah

I shoved the door open with every bit of frustration I had left in me. It crashed against the wall with a loud bang that probably echoed down the hallway. Without missing a beat, I yanked it shut just as hard, the slam vibrating through my bones like it was trying to release some of the anger bottled up inside my chest. I leaned back against the cool wood, breathing heavily, then stomped my foot hard on the floor like a stubborn child. “Ouch!”

I.V Chapter 30: Caught in the Heat POV: Sarah I shoved the door open with every bit of frustration I had left in me. “Ouch!” I winced sharply, the pain shooting up my leg. I hopped on one foot toward the bed, cursing under my breath the whole way. “That arrogant, impossible, infuriating man,” I muttered, my chest still rising and falling rapidly. “Who the hell does he think he is, making me look like a clueless little wife in front of everyone?” The embarrassment burned fresh in my cheeks just thinking about it. I paced the spacious bedroom like a caged animal, my bare feet sinking into the soft carpet with every

I.V Chapter 29: Shadows in the Garden POV: Adrian “My word is final, Grandpa.” I barked, my voice echoing off the walls. “You can endorse the damn deal yourself. Have you no remorse for my mother at all? They treated her like she was nothing until her last breath. She sacrificed everything to build this empire with Father, only for him to betray her with—” “ENOUGH!” Grandpa’s roar cut me off. His chest heaved, face flushed with barely contained fury. “You’re not the only one carrying that pain, boy. I am too. That’s exactly why I want you to endorse this deal—so you can finally avenge her.” His voice dropped, calm but edged with steel. “I know you don’t trust anyone in this family. But can you trust your old man’s gut just this once?” His eyes held mine, heavy with expectation. I stayed silent. He stepped closer, his hand landing gently on my shoulder. “Let me make it up to your mother,” he said quietly, then turned and left the room. I watched his figure disappear down

I.V Chapter 28: A Gift Wrapped in Tension POV: Sarah My body trembled violently every time another crash echoed from inside the penthouse. This time, Margaret gently covered my ears with her palms, shielding me from the chaos. “I think it’s time we head back, ma’am,” Margaret said, her voice steady and calm, like she’d seen this kind of storm before. I nodded quickly, desperate to escape this suffocating place. As we walked down the hallway, I noticed the servants. Fear and tremors showed on every face we passed. They all looked shaken to their core. What kind of conversation could possibly turn the entire atmosphere this tense? I muttered under my breath. Margaret carefully guided me toward the elevator. Just as we were about to step in, the doors opened and out stepped Grandpa, flanked by two imposing bodyguards. Our eyes locked instantly. His expression was stone-hard, completely unreadable, like a man who had stared down a lifetime of battles. The air grew thick with t

I.V Chapter 27: Whispers in the Garden POV: Sarah What did he mean by I don’t need to work and should just stay here? I stared around Adrian’s penthouse, feeling a wave of frustration rise in my chest. This place was supposed to be luxurious, but to me it felt like a beautiful cage cold marble floors, towering windows, and expensive furniture that made the whole space feel more like a showroom than a home. A damn golden hellhole. Ugh, I couldn’t even argue with him when he looked at me like that. Those deep, intense eyes of his always made my words get stuck in my throat — dark and commanding, with a hint of something softer that made my stupid heart skip. I was still stuck in my thoughts when Stanley pushed the door open. His next words hit me like a bucket of ice water. “The old man is on his way here, boss.” My blood ran cold. I felt the color drain from my face as my stomach twisted into a painf

I.V Chapter 26: Mine to protect POV: Adrian “It’s getting dark, Edward.” I said, rolling up my sleeves and glancing at my wristwatch. Edward raised an eyebrow, clearly in no hurry to leave. I kept my voice calm but firm. “You should head out. I’ve already kept you long enough.” “Oh… you don’t think I should check one last time to make sure my patient is stable?” He tilted his head back with that annoying teasing grin of his. I stepped closer, my patience snapping. I grabbed him by the collar of his shirt, my breath coming sharp and fast. “What the hell do you mean, stable?” “Wow, wow, relax!” Edward raised both hands in surrender, still wearing that mischievous grin. “She’s fine. I was just messing with you, keeping you on your toes.” “You’d better hope she’s fine, Edward,” I said slowly, dragging his name like a warning. I released his collar, smoothing the fabric back down with a couple of firm pats, my expression still hard. The room felt colder as the tension ling

I.V Chapter 25: Safe to fall POV: Sarah Tired of sitting around waiting for the food, I stood up and started wandering around the massive room. Everything was in black and white, neatly arranged and perfectly orderly, like no one actually lived here. “A little touch up or some bright color here and there wouldn’t be bad,” I muttered under my breath as I stopped in front of the closet. The moment I opened the doors, my eyes widened. Instead of the casual outfits I expected, I was greeted by rows of luxurious designer pieces from different countries. There were elegant gowns in soft silks and flowing chiffons from Chanel and Dior, tailored blazers and trousers from Gucci and Valentino, and limited edition pieces I’d only ever seen in magazines. Leather jackets from Hermès hung beside sky high Louboutins in classic reds, butter
