Kristin heaved a sigh after coming out of a building. She had just arrived in Las Vegas, looking for a cheap house to rent, but she couldn’t find one that met her budget.

"Why are houses in Vegas so expensive? I need to start working as soon as possible to take care of my parents in Glenwood, they can’t continue farming," she whined.

"Should I find a rich tycoon and marry him?" she chuckled at her own words. Her stomach rumbled, and she knew it was time to eat, she hadn’t eaten since she landed in Las Vegas.

Kristin looked for the perfect spot to sit, and when she found one, she smiled and rushed to sit down. She opened her luggage and took out the homemade rice cakes her mom prepared for her before she embarked on her journey to Vegas.

"Mmmm, mom’s cooking is always the best,” Kristin uttered, dancing with her head. She wasn’t the type of person to get shy, which is why she was comfortably eating on the roadside despite how the people passing by were looking at her.

"Why are they all staring at me? Haven’t they seen someone eating before?" she muttered to herself, enjoying her delicious rice cakes.

"Do you want some rice cakes?" she asked when a lady wouldn’t stop looking at her. She even strike a pose when another lady attempted to take a picture of her to post online.

"I doubt she is from Vegas"

"She is definitely not from Vegas. No one in Las Vegas eats outside."

Kristin kept beaming smiles at them even as they gossiped about her. She continued until she was the only one left on the roadside, still enjoying her meal.

"It’s no big deal in Glenwood when you eat by the roadside, so why is it such a big deal here?"

When she was done eating to her satisfaction, she began zipping up her luggage, and in the process, someone stole her bag containing all the money she had.

"You thief! Come back here!!!" Kristin screamed, going after the thief, leaving her luggage behind.

"You’re so dead if I get my hands on you!" she spats as she chase after him.

The thief was a good runner, but despite his talent, Kristin didn’t stop chasing after him.

Her whole life savings were inside the bag the thief had stolen from her.

Meanwhile, Richard stepped out of the building after instructing his men to keep beating the man until he talked. He was about to enter his black Rolls-Royce when a notification on his phone stopped him from opening the car door.

He slid up the screen, his gray eyes scanning the message with disinterest.

Kristin, still chasing the thief, spotted him wearing the same black hoodie the thief was wearing, with his back on her.

Thinking he was the thief who had stolen from her, her anger flared as she ran toward him.

"You good-for-nothing thief!" she spat, her voice seething with rage.

Without a second thought, she leaped into the air and landed a thunderous slap on the back of Richard's head.

Richard’s head snapped forward, and he stumbled slightly from the force of the blow. Shock coursed through him as he turned around to look at the person who had the audacity to slap his head.

Kristin’s eyes sparkled with anger as she glared at Richard, but she could sense the cold aura around him.

"What was the meaning of that?" he asked, his gaze unwavering.

"Give me back my bag," Kristin demanded, stretching out her hand, ignoring his question.

"What stupid bag are you talking about?"

"You stole from me, and now you're going to pretend like you didn’t?"

Richard’s eyes darkened, and Kristin could feel a shiver of fear at his cold demeanor.

"I stole from you? Have you lost it?" he raged, causing Kristin to flinch, but she held her composure.

"The man who stole from me had the same outfit as you."

"And you assume it was me?" He knitted his eyebrows.

"You can’t blame me. Vegas is a city filled with fake people. They tend to dress expensively just to fit in, and at the end of the day, they steal from others." she said.

Richard stepped closer, looming over Kristin with his height.

"Are you new to Vegas not to sense who I am? You think I would fake my life just to steal mere change from you? I could order your corpse if I want to," he snarled in a low, menacing tone, frightening Kristin.

Kristin stared at him from head to toe. Her eyes met with the expensive diamond watch he was wearing. Someone wearing a diamond watch and portraying a cold demeour couldn't have stolen her bag.

Realising her mistake, she fake a laugh. "Oh, my bad! You must be the king of Vegas. I’m sorry if I mistook you for a thief. I’ll go my way, and you should do the same," Kristin said, beaming at him.

She turned to run away, but Richard grabbed her by the hood of her yellow hoodie.

"Where do you think you're going?" he demanded.

"Home," she replied softly, her heart pounding.

It was her first time in Las Vegas, and she was already getting into trouble.

"Do you think I’d let you go after what you did to me? You still need to pay the price for using those filthy hands on me," his voice hovered, and Kristin shivered at his words.

Romina walked home, one step after another, her heart breaking from the words Luke had said to her. It wasn’t that she was being clingy; she just couldn’t stop herself from thinking about him. It wasn’t her first time falling in love, but it was the first time she loved someone so deeply that she couldn’t go a day without seeing Luke. That’s why she went to the library to see him. When she got home, Kristin was about to leave after visiting her parents’ house. Kristin quickly rushed to her when she saw the tear-streaks on her face. "What’s wrong, Romina? Why are you crying?" she asked, concern clear in her voice. Romina looked at Kristin, tears falling from her eyes. "Why didn’t you tell me he was married?" "Who?" "Luke," Romina choked out between sobs. "Your buddy, Luke." "Wait, he’s the same man you said you wanted to marry? I thought when Luke came here days ago, you denied having a crush on him," Kristin asked. "I lied. Luke is the man I told you about," she sniffled. "Y

Julio entered Ophelia’s room and found her sitting on the bed. She was still struggling to see after Richard had poured grounded pepper into her eyes."How are you feeling?" he asked."Are you seriously asking me that? You allowed your adoptive son to treat me like this, and you dare ask how I’m feeling?" Ophelia shot back, her eyes still stinging with pain."You brought this upon yourself, Ophelia. Richard is no longer the little boy you mistreated. He’s not the kid you hurt at every chance you got. I let him treat you the way he did because you’ve been nothing but a thorn in his fresh."Ophelia scoffed bitterly. "How could you say that to me? Do you even love me at all?""Of course I do. Didn’t I choose you over her? Even though she waited for me all those years, I abandoned her and married you instead.""So, what? Do I owe you something for choosing me over your first love?" Ophelia snapped."Don’t twist my words. I love you, but lately, you’ve been impossible! All you can think ab

The next morning, Kristin woke up to find Richard sitting beside her, watching her like a soap opera. Feeling unexpectedly shy, she covered her face with the duvet. "Since when did my wife become so shy?" Richard asked with a smile, recalling that last night had been the best of his life. He finally felt he had broken through his emotional walls. "Aren’t you going to leave for work?" she asked from beneath the duvet. "No, not after having a steamy night with my beautiful wife." Kristin smiled under the duvet but remained hesitant to show her face. "Forevermore," Richard called gently, but Kristin only tightened the duvet around her. "If you don’t look at me, I’ll come under the duvet and keep you busy all day." Kristin sat up, revealing her face. "Since when did you become so corrupt? Are you still the Mr. Grouchy I married?" she asked, her tone light but curious. Richard chuckled. "Just because I keep my distance from women doesn’t mean I don’t know a few things. I just pr

Richard’s eyes were intense, as he close the distance between them, his gaze locked on her. She could feel the air shift between them, the tension almost unbearable. His hand slowly moved up her arm, sending shivers through her body as he pulled her closer. The moment seemed to stretch, each second amplifying the unspoken desire between them. Without a word, Richard cupped her face with both hands and kissed her. It wasn’t soft or tentative—it was fierce, urgent, like all the pent-up emotions they’d been holding back. Kristin responded immediately, her hands gripping his shirt as she pressed herself against him, lost in the heat of the moment. His lips moved against hers with a hunger she hadn’t expected, and his hands slid down to her waist, pulling her even closer. Every touch felt electric, and her mind was spinning with the intensity of it all. She could feel his need, with the way his fingers dug into her skin, possessively and hungrily. Time seemed to stop as they stood

Kristin sniffled, wiping away her tears. "When did you find out I had a child?" "After you agreed to marry Richard," Luke replied. "That long? Why didn’t you tell me?" "I didn’t want you to feel worse about yourself. That’s why I pretended not to know. I’m sorry." "You don’t have to apologize. You didn’t do anything wrong. I just want my husband to forgive me," Kristin said, gazing at the hotel entrance as if expecting Richard to walk through the doors any moment. "Richard is trying to control his anger. We should give him space before he explodes," Luke advised. Kristin nodded. "I think I’ll stay at my parents’ place tonight. If I go home, it might just make things worse." "Your parents are in Vegas?" "Yes. They came after seeing that public kiss between Mr. Grouchy and I. They don’t know how my marriage really began, but they’re planning to stay in Las Vegas permanently. Richard already canceled the one-year contract, so he insists they stay." "I’ll drive you to your parent

Richard’s eyes remained fixed on the road, not sparing a glance at Kristin. The silence was suffocating, eating her away slowly. He had defended her, made everyone apologize, but that didn’t mean he wasn’t furious with her. The coldness in his eyes and the silence between them made his anger unmistakable. Kristin knew she should have told him the truth, but she had been too scared, and now it had come out in the worst possible way. As she stared at Richard, she wrestled with how to begin. After a few moments, she finally mustered the courage to speak. "Mr. Grouchy, I—" "I don’t want to hear your voice," he cut her off coldly. He still didn’t look at her, and that broke Kristin’s heart. He had every right to be mad, but it was tearing her apart. "I’m sorry, I wanted to—" "Did you not hear me when I said I don’t want to hear your voice?" he interrupted again, his gaze now on her. His eyes were not only filled with anger but also disappointment. Kristin lowered her head to her lap,
