ANMELDENI stood there, staring at the spot where Edris had been a few seconds ago.
I was so confused, angry, and frustrated. What the hell was wrong with that man? I had literally stabbed him yesterday, yet somehow I was the one feeling unsettled. I glanced at the breakfast on the table. The eggs, the toast, and the coffee. They looked yummy. I hadn’t eaten for a while now; all that was on my mind was how to kill Edris. Suddenly, my stomach growled. I rolled my eyes. Seriously? After everything that had happened, I was hungry. I pulled out a chair and sat down. I said to myself, just one bite, then I would continue planning how to murder my husband, but that one bite turned into several bites. I was so hungry. I grabbed another piece of toast, then I heard a voice. "Good morning, Mrs. Veltri." I looked up and saw one of the maids smiling at me. Immediately, my appetite disappeared. "Don't call me that." The maid's smile remained on her face. "My apologies, Mrs. Veltri." I groaned internally. Definitely one of Edris's people. Before I could reply, two more maids walked into the dining room carrying several suitcases. I frowned. My eyes followed them. "What are those for?" One of the maids stopped. "Mr. Veltri asked us to prepare your luggage, Mrs. Veltri." "My luggage?" "Yes." I narrowed my eyes. "For what exactly?" The maid looked confused. "For your honeymoon." I nearly choked on air. "My what?" "Your honeymoon, Mrs. Veltri." I pushed my chair back so hard it almost fell over. This man had completely lost his mind. Without saying another word, I stormed out of the dining room. The employees quickly stepped out of my way. Good, at least somebody feared me because their boss certainly didn't. A few minutes later, I arrived outside Edris's office. The doors were closed, and I could hear voices from inside. There was a meeting going on but I didn't care. I pushed the doors open. The room immediately fell silent, and every head turned toward me. Some people looked shocked, while others looked terrified. One man nearly dropped the tablet in his hand. At the far end of the room sat Edris, looking calm as always. As if I hadn't stabbed him less than twenty-four hours ago. I marched toward his desk. "What is wrong with you?" Nobody spoke or moved. Edris calmly closed the file in front of him. Then he looked around the room. "The meeting is over." The executives didn't need to be told twice. Within seconds, they were rushing out of the office. The moment the door closed behind them, I pointed at him. "I'm not going on any honeymoon with you." Edris leaned back in his chair. "We're leaving tonight." I blinked. "What?" "We're leaving tonight." The audacity, the absolute audacity. "You can't force me." His dark eyes met mine. "Try me." I stared at him. Was he seriously challenging me? "I don't know what game you're playing." "It's not a game." "Then explain it." Silence between us. My frustration grew. "Why did you marry me?" Edris didn't answer. I clenched my fists. "Why?" For a second, his jaw tightened. The first real emotion I had seen from him all day. Something flashed across his face. Something painful flickered across his face, but it vanished so fast I thought I’d imagined it. "You'll find out eventually." I laughed bitterly. "I don't want your secrets." His gaze never left mine. "That's unfortunate." I folded my arms. "Why?" "Because you're already part of them." His words sent a chill down my spine. Before I could ask what he meant, his phone suddenly rang. Edris glanced at the screen, and for just a second, something shifted in his expression. I caught it. Without hesitation, he rejected the call. Hmmm, very Interesting. I looked at the phone, then at him. Whoever had called him wasn't somebody he wanted me asking questions about. For the first time since waking up this morning, I felt like I had finally discovered something. Maybe my so-called husband wasn't as untouchable as he pretended to be; he was obviously keeping some secrets I could use to destroy him, and I intended to uncover every single one of them. No matter what it took. The moment I saw the handwriting on the envelope, my heart stopped for a second. Three years after Julian’s death, the last thing I expected was his name written in that familiar scrawl. For Juliana. An ache spread through my chest so suddenly that I could barely breathe. “God, I’ve missed Julian”, I whispered. Three years had passed, yet the grief still felt fresh enough to split me open. My fingers trembled as I opened the envelope; inside was a folded letter. I hesitated only a second before unfolding it. The moment I saw his handwriting again, my vision blurred. Tears burned immediately, and I blinked them back. I couldn’t afford to look weak in front of Edris. I lowered my gaze and began to read. Dear Jules, If you’re reading this, something has gone terribly wrong. And yes… I already know you’re crying. You cry over everything, even that ridiculous dog movie we watched. A broken laugh escaped me before I could stop it. “Idiot,” I whispered. Even now, he was teas
I didn’t move, I couldn’t. It felt like I’d been caught red-handed at a crime scene, unsure whether to run or stay where I was. Edris was standing in the doorway as he had always been there for a long time watching, and as if he already knew what I was up to. My fingers tightened around the photograph in my hand without me even realizing it. I hadn’t even realized I was shaking. My throat went dry. “You’ve been watching me,” I said again, slower this time. This time, it wasn’t confusion; it was an accusation. Edris stepped inside the room calmly. He closed the door behind him without breaking eye contact with me, and my body moved to the sound of the lock clicking softly. “You went through my things,” he said. I scoffed. “You’re worried about that right now?” He didn’t answer. That silence again. That frustrating, controlled silence that made it feel like I was always one step behind him. I turned and slammed the photograph onto his desk. “What is this?” Edris looke
I left Edris’s office pretending I was fine, but I wasn’t, not even close. His phone call and that slight change in his expression kept bothering my mind, that wasn’t normal.Nothing about Edris Veltri was normal. We were walking down the hallway when I slowed my steps.“Excuse me.”Edris stopped and turned slightly.“What?”“I need the restroom.”He studied me for a second, as if he didn’t believe me, then he nodded once.“Don’t take too long.”I frowned.“Excuse me?”But he had already turned away.Of course, he would always act like I was the problem.I headed toward the restroom, and the hallway was empty.I stepped inside quickly, closed the door, and waited for a few seconds to make sure no one was following me.Then I moved.I didn’t go to the restroom.Obviously, I went the other way back toward his office. My heart started beating faster as I walked urgently, afraid of getting caught. “That phone call wasn’t normal and I needed to know why”, I said to myself while hurrying t

Edris wrapped his hand around the handle and pulled it out, then said to me,“Finished? If that was enough to make you feel better, then do it again.”Before I could try stabbing him again, something strong hit the back of my head, and I passed out on the floor. The next morning, I woke up expecting police officers.Instead, I was still in Edris’s master bedroom, not a jail cell. I was still in my enemy’s bedroom.I checked my outfit and realized my wedding dress was gone. That meant someone had changed my clothes.I quickly threw the blanket aside, climbed out of bed, and rushed downstairs in shock.“What the hell is going on? Am I dreaming or something?” I said to myself while hurrying down. Then I saw Edris was still alive, eating breakfast calmly as if nothing had happened.A newspaper rested beside his plate, and a cup of coffee sat in front of him.He looked like a man enjoying a peaceful morning, not a man who had been stabbed on his wedding night. He lifted his eyes to me.“Go
“One, two, three.”The camera flashed again, and another round of applause followed almost immediately. I kept the smile on my face even though my cheeks already hurt from forcing it for hours. Around us, guests moved through the grand ballroom laughing, drinking expensive champagne, and celebrating what they believed was a perfect love story. The photographer lowered his camera with a satisfied grin before motioning for us to stay still. “I got one more,” he said excitedly. “Smile for me, baby.”Before I could react, Edris pulled me closer against him, one hand settling naturally around my waist. The warmth of his body pressed against mine through the fabric of my wedding dress while his expensive cologne surrounded me.“You look beautiful today,” he murmured near my ear. “I’m glad I married you.”A few people nearby laughed at his words while others stared at us with obvious envy. To everyone in this room, we looked like two people hopelessly in love.I smiled again because that was
