NICHOLAS.

A pile of emails to respond to, meetings to attend, documents to sign. The routine is usually the same, except today, I'm doing both my work and Sam's.

Somebody has to keep this company afloat.

The ache in my head is getting worse, and my body is screaming for rest. I lean back in my chair, but the ding of my computer pulls me upright again. A very toxic relationship indeed.

I glance at the screen and pause when I see the sender.

An email from Sam?

Curious, I click on it, and an invit

The breeze sweeps across the helipad at Sinclair Technologies, stirring the edges of our jackets and sending loose strands of hair across Sandra's face. Above us, white clouds drift lazily across the blue sky as the helicopter waits, its blades spinning rapidly. Sandra walks beside me with my briefcase in her hand, while the pilot makes his final preparations. As we approach, I adjust my suit jacket before climbing aboard.A few minutes later, we're in the air, heading for one of our branches in San Diego. On our way, I go through the details of the newly purchased equipment that has been installed at the company's data centre. Although pictures and videos of the installation have been sent to me, I still want to inspect everything myself. I need to be certain that the equipment is properly installed and functioning as it should before we begin operations. The last thing I want is to discover a problem that could have been avoided with a proper inspection. The branch has already bee

His voice comes through almost immediately. “Adrian, what a surprise—”A loud bang interrupts him, followed by a sharp cry that sounds like Jesse, his little daughter.“Jesus Christ!” he exclaims, loud enough to make me pull the phone slightly away from my ear.I hear more movement, followed by another cry and what sounds like Dominic trying to get something out of his daughter's hands. I remain quiet, waiting for him to settle things before continuing. It's hard to believe that the same Dominic who once seemed determined to remain a bachelor is now married with a child. Two years ago, during one of our hangouts, he'd invited me to his wedding. At first, I thought he was joking. Dominic, getting married? I'd never imagined a day would come when he'd settle down with a woman. In fact, I was more open to relationships than he was. I could have sworn he'd eventually become a priest or something. When I realised he was serious, my first question was whether she was pregnant. There had to

I wait for a few minutes before placing another call to her. It rings several times before she finally answers.“Where are you now?” I ask, unable to hide my concern in my voice. Her voice comes through the phone, calmer than it was earlier. “We're in the estate. We're driving towards the house.”I release a breath. At least they're back on the estate grounds.“Okay. I'll be in the room waiting for you.”The call ends, and I return the cork to the half-empty wine bottle before placing it inside the small fridge in my office. I rinse the empty glass in the sink, leave it there for the housekeeper to collect later, then head to my room.I don't wait long before the door opens and she walks in.The moment I see her face, I know she's still shaken. Her movements are slower and slightly staggered. She blinks several times, her eyes wandering around the room. Then she crosses the room and sinks onto the edge of the bed. She doesn't even bother to adjust her position or drop her bag. She sim

Adrian.I settle into my chair and begin to go over the company's financial statement for the last quarter. The legal team has finally resolved the matter concerning the malicious post the blogger published, which means at least one issue is off my plate. My meeting with Beatrice yesterday is still fresh in my mind. The decision to move the succession date forward, the choice she indirectly refused to make public, and the affection she openly shows her other two grandsons, one which I have never received from her. Then there are the board members and the silent alliances that have been formed over the years. Some are bound by lies, secrets and the benefits they stand to gain, while others are genuinely interested in seeing the company grow and remain committed to that purpose, even if they are considerably fewer.Regardless, these things aren't built in a day or two. Years of shared interests, favours and carefully maintained relationships have gone into establishing the influence som

He drives into the garage and brings the car to a halt beside a black SUV that looks exactly like my boss’s.It’s him.Why is he so early?I take a quick glance at my watch. God! It's almost nine.“Here we are,” Adrian says, reaching for his door handle.I instinctively grab his hand before he can open it. “Stop,” I whisper, my attention fixed on Festus. He swings his car door open, steps out, then adjusts his tie using the window as a mirror.Adrian turns towards me, his lips parting as if he’s about to ask a question, but he notices Festus, and immediately understands my little situation. The corners of his mouth lift, and he lets out an amused chuckle at my desperate attempt to keep him inside the car. Fortunately for me, Festus moves away from his SUV. At first, I think he’s heading towards the elevator, but when he changes direction and starts walking towards our car, panic takes over. I quickly duck below the dashboard, hoping he won’t notice me.That’s when Adrian loses it. H

  • Married To The Other Brother.   Chapter 28.

My alarm buzzes once, then again. I roll towards the edge of the bed, my eyes barely open as I swipe up on my phone to silence it before settling back under the covers.A few seconds later, it goes off again.A hiss escapes me as I scratch an itch around my waist and reach blindly for my phone. Who in God's name set these alarms so close together? I squint at the screen, torn between throwing the phone across the room and getting out of bed. After a brief internal struggle, I finally push the covers aside and sit up.I had planned to make Adrian breakfast this morning, something nice to help him recover from yesterday's hustle and bustle. Oh, right. That's why I set the alarms this way. Apparently, I had anticipated my own reluctance to leave the bed.I glance at Adrian, who lies beside me, still fast asleep despite the noise. He hasn't even stirred. I suppose he hasn't had enough rest, but I have to get up anyway, especially since I'm the one who decided to make him breakfast. After
