“We can’t talk here, come with me.” He said as he stretched out his hand to lift me off the ground. I had no idea if it was the way he talked or the aura around him but I know I absentmindedly placed my hand in his and let him lift me off the floor. Getting into a car with a total stranger was something I didn’t ever see myself doing but for some reason, I got into his car with him and his driver drove away from the club. He didn’t say a single word to me, no matter how many times I asked who he was and what he wanted with me, he just kept staring out the window and tapping his fingers on his thighs gingerly as if he was worried about something. As soon as we drove past a large black gate and what was a beautiful, private park, a breathtaking mansion came into view. The whole place was bathed in ethereal lights and even the fountain gave off some kind of glow that didn’t feel real. Was I dreaming? “Follow me.” The elderly man who had now introduced himself as Paul said as he alighted from the car and I did the same after him. Why was I doing what he asked? I shouldn’t trust someone I had just met enough to follow him into a mansion like this. I stopped at the foot of the stairs that led up to the building and he must have noticed my hesitation because he turned around and smiled at me, “We won’t hurt you Ivy, we just need you to do something for us. It’s just a job that you need and you will be paid well for it, we both know you need the money for your mother.” My eyes widened in shock, “How do you know about my mother?” “All your questions would be answered inside Ivy. Just come.” He responded before he turned back around and headed inside. I hesitated for a second or two but then, I was curious to know who he was and know he knew so much about me already so I followed after him and the interior of the mansion was so much better than the exterior part of it. I had never laid my eyes on anything more… “This way.” Paul’s voice cut off my train of thought as he walked into a room and I had to put aside my admiration for the house and follow after him. As soon as I walked in, my eyes landed on a middle-aged woman with golden hair and dressed in the most expensive clothing, standing close to the window with her back to us while Paul was now standing beside a strange man with brown hair, dressed somewhat like him with a few strands of white hair on his head. I immediately noticed the tattoo on the back of his palm. “See, I told you this could work, she looks just like her, and by the time she wears her clothes, no one other than us will ever know it’s not Iris,” Paul said. “I don’t think this is a good idea brother. Alejandro didn’t earn the title of a serpent by being so easily deceived.” The strange man beside him replied, his eyes fixed on me. “Trust me, just trust me, and let me handle this.” The woman at the window had still not turned around even as Paul beckoned for me to come closer to them and take a seat at the table in the room. As soon as I was seated, he pulled out a picture from his pocket and placed it on the table for me to see. I cocked my head sideways as I stared at the picture in disbelief, my splitting image staring right back at me but clothed in a dress I had never owned before and jewelry I had never seen in my entire life. “T-This is me… how did you get this?” I asked, peering even harder at the picture with my brows furrowed, “But… how… I don’t remember taking any picture like this before or…” I stumbled over my own words. “Who are you and what is going on here?” I pushed back my seat and jumped to my feet in panic. Paul and the strange man beside him shared a glance before he turned to face me. “Calm down Ivy, the girl in the picture is not you, you’re two entirely different people. She is Iris Silver, an heiress of the Silver empire and you’re Ivy.” He explained and that only made it sound even more confusing. “What does that mean? She looks just like me…” “No Ivy, you… look like her and that’s what we need you for.” “Is she… is she like a relative or something? Am I related to…” “Trust me Ivy, you’re both not related in any way, I have the results of several DNA tests to prove it.” “How did you do that? She can't look exactly like me in this manner, it’s just not possible.” My voice was now becoming a bit higher than intended because I was now panicking and had no idea what I was supposed to make of what was going on. “You’re her doppelgänger,” a firm voice cut into the discussion and I turned in time to see the woman at the window who had been silent all along, turn around to face us, “how difficult can that be? As much as it is difficult for me to believe that someone like you looks like my precious daughter, we still need you.” She sighed heavily before she continued, “Where exactly did you find this lowlife Paul? I doubt she would be able to fill Iris's shoes.” She added as she stared at me in disdain. “Just let me handle this,” Paul said as he reached out to hold my shoulder, “I know this is too much for you to handle Ivy but we don’t have the luxury of time. Iris, my niece, was set to marry Alejandro Leone and she went missing a few days ago.” “What does that have to do with me?” I asked, glancing around in confusion and panic. “We need someone to marry Alejandro in her place, just for the meantime until she returns.” “What?!” “Just listen to me, we need this marriage to go through and your mother needs her medication. As soon as you agree and sign these papers, all your mother’s hospital bills will be paid and she will be placed in the VIP ward so she can have access to the best treatment money can buy.” “I…I…” I had no idea what to say or think, especially now that he had mentioned the hospital bills. “You know you can’t possibly come up with the money and her health is deteriorating fast, think before you give me a reply Ivy.” Paul probed further. I was speechless as I stood there in front of these three strange people. How did I end up here? “H-How can I trust you?” “Just sign the papers and the part payment of the money you’ll be paid for this job will be deposited into your account. And as for the hospital, I’ll ask them to call you to confirm that every single bill has been settled and your mother has been upgraded.” Paul said. “The clock is ticking.” The woman stated with a frown on her face. I stared at their faces, my heart racing beyond control because I could tell there was something not right about this. But there was no denying the fact that Paul was right, I had just lost the highest-paying job and even if I didn’t, there was no way I could ever raise that money in time for her to get better. I can’t let Mom die because I was too scared to take an opportunity. What could be the worst that could happen in just getting married to someone in place of their daughter? They look rich so they should be able to find her as soon as possible so she can return to take her place and I’ll just walk away with the money. It didn’t sound bad in my mind even though I was ignoring the alarm bells going off in my head. “Six million dollars, as the initial deposit now and the remaining three after the job is done.” Paul highlighted and that was the last thing I needed to hear. “And if I ever want to back down?” I inquired my thoughts all over the place. “For your sake, I hope it never comes to that.” The strange man said as he handed over a pen to me, “Your time is up, sign now or the deal is off.” I could barely think straight. I was so nervous that my palms were so sweaty and trembling lightly but I still managed to hold down the tip of the pen and scribble my signature where I needed to. “Good. Now, you meet Alejandro.” Paul said, his eyes lit up with some sort of look that got me worried. Did I make the right choice? Who was this Alejandro? My phone buzzed in my pocket and as soon as I pulled it out, the notification of the money that had just dropped in my account popped up. My mouth hung open in shock. Six million dollars!!! Who were these people and how the hell did they figure out everything about me so easily?IVY POV“You look beautiful dear.” Sylvia complimented from behind me as I stood in front of the big standing mirror in front of me.“Thank you,” I replied with a smile on my face, admiring myself too. The dress came in two days ago. Alejandro sent one of the maids to go get the dress for me for the charity event we’d both be attending today.Things have been going smoothly between the both of us lately. It’s like he’s back to being the same person I feel for. I didn’t question it, I simply went along with it, reminding myself that he wasn’t an ordinary man so feelings like that weren’t something he dealt with.He would come over to my room, we’d talk, and sometimes watch films together, mostly my preference which was surprising because we’d never watched a film together before. He would watch and most times, he was staring at me and not watching. Whenever I asked him why he wasn’t watching, he'd tell me that he preferred watching me.We would kiss every night before he left. Every n
ALEJANDRO LEONE POV It's been a week and I got nothing so I concluded that I might have gotten it wrong. Iris does have feelings for me. I've come to accept it but what I haven't come to accept was what I felt for her and what I planned on doing with it.I didn't expect her to confess to me that night after dinner. I never would have thought that she was crushing on me before we even met. So just as I did my research on her, she also did hers and ended up crushing hard. For some reason, I have been thinking about that for a while and each time I did, a smile would form on my face, which was rare and funny because it wasn't me. I've been away on a business trip. I received an anonymous text that my uncle Marcos was planning to do shit to me and I've been trying to trail his track and to see what he's up to.So far I've been able to learn that he has visited the Silver family twice. I had no idea why but I've been looking into it. I never trusted the Silverd and when I finally allowed
THIRD PERSON POV"What do you mean by that? You mean the heartless Alejandro has a heart and is interested in my look-alike?" Iris was surprised to hear the news that her mother just told her about. "I cannot believe this. Are you sure about this mom?" Iris asked."I'm not stupid when I see a man that is interested in a woman. Maybe it might be an act but he acted so well that I doubt it. I feel something is going on that we don't know and that girl, I don't trust her. I've never liked her away." Iris thought deeply about her mom's words. She still found it hard to believe after her mom told them all that went down at Alejandro's mansion."If she's keeping anything then she'd be the one to lose because she has her mother with us so I doubt, maybe nothing is going on and it's all an act from him after all…" she trailed off when she thought of something."Oh my goodness!""What is it, Iris?" Carmen asked her daughter inquisitively. "I told you I met Brittany some weeks back.""And
THIRD PERSON POVAlejandro's frantic action didn't go unnoticed by the Silvers after Ivy cut herself and he was already tending to her cut with so much interest.Ivy herself wasn't expecting him to act up so quickly and that made her more worried than she already was because she already told Carmen Silver there was nothing much going on between them when there was something although it wasn't defined and was unstable."You should have been careful," Alejandro whispered to her.He also didn't think that he would have jumped off his seat that quickly after she cut herself just to see how it was. It was only later he realized what he had done, acting without thinking once again because of Iris Silver."Come with me," he said.He wanted to go tend to her wound so that it didn't get infected. She wished he hadn't done so because she didn't fail to notice the looks on the face of the Silver and she wondered if he did too.He did notice it and that's why he hated that he had shown signs that
IVY"Dinner?" I was surprised to hear Al mention dinner with Iris's parents. What was the sudden need to meet them and have dinner with them? I thought to myself and then I thought of how it would give me the perfect opportunity to ask Paul Silver about my mom. "Yes. It's just we are married and it feels like both families don't get along that's why. I just want us to spend time with each other that's just it. I'm also sure you missed them too, don't you?" I forced a smile to my face. "You are right.""Alright then. I'm going to leave you now. I have some business to attend. I will call your parents to inform them so that they know the invite is from me. Have a nice day." He caressed my cheek and just as I was about to lean into his touch, he pulled away. I suddenly missed his touch and I haven't failed to notice the distance between us. He's always having something to do. At first, I thought that it was because he's business but lately, I'm starting to doubt that. I'm beginning
THIRD PERSON POV"I knew he was sneaky but I didn't know that he would do that openly and we'd be too blind to see it." Lorenzo Silver said to his brother who had just informed them of the snake amongst them."He will regret ever thinking he could trespass us. He wouldn't have had the chance if Iris was smart enough with her love life and worse she got herself pregnant with his baby," Lorenzo complained bitterly. Now that he knew that Marcos was the snake, he was angry because not only did he have to get rid of him but also the father of his soon-to-be grandchild."We will have to make sure he regrets this. We must get rid of him. We cannot keep him. That's why he chose to help because he was the one who had stolen from us but the question now is how did he come to bear on our conversation? It's not possible he overheard us when the door is always locked and it's soundproof." Paul Silver asked."That's it. He couldn't have been in the room at that time because the key to the room is w
IVY"You have every right to hate me you know. I won't hold that against you. I'm not just going to act like I'm some good guy and you know that.""What do you mean?" I asked.I already knew that he wasn't a good guy. He's a mafia which means he cannot be the ordinary man that I'm used to. Could that be why some days he's good and some days he's bad to me? Because he's not used to such emotions? Seeing how he always came back after hurting me made me feel like I wasn't trying to see beyond what he usually showed me and I felt a little guilty. He's not used to such and it's new to me too. He came back last night and had taken care of me. Maybe I could make things get better. So far he has been the only one trying to put so much effort so I wouldn't give up on him. "I didn't mean to hurt…."When you feel that way, it's better you speak to me than walk out on me and also when you feel that way, it's okay to keep quiet and not hurt me. I was hurt. You called me names and it's more hurtf
ALEJANDRO"Fuck!" I punched the bag in front of me with so much anger. Why was I affected by the way I saw her and the words I said to her? Why did it bother me so much? Until I discover everything that she has in her sleeves, I didn't want to associate with her. I wanted nothing to do with her and I thought I'd be able to handle it until I saw the look on her face and how hurt she was.She has fallen for me. This was perfect, just as I've wanted it and I should be able to use that against her but somehow my head was going crazy and I just couldn't help.I kept punching the bag hand, putting all of my frustration on it."Fuck! Fuck!" I cursed out as I recalled the look in her eyes and how heartbroken she was.I should have used it to my advantage. Getting her to reveal all of her family secrets, take them down, and break her heart, would have been better but somehow I just couldn't.The fact that there was evidence that she might be dangerous made me so bothered. I couldn't let my gua
IVY"Did he seriously do that?" Maggie asked.I've been in her room all day. I was unable to sleep last night. My heart was shattered and broken when Al left me in my room after I thought we were going to make love.Maggie knows of my feelings for Al. I kept her informed on a few but not every detail so she knew that I liked him. I cried all through the night, feeling like my heart had been ripped out of my chest. It was heartbreaking. I expected him to come back to my room, to tell me that it was fine but he never did.The next day came faster than I expected and still unable to get rid of the heavy feeling I had in my chest, I took my heart and came over to Maggie's wanting a shoulder to cry on. Sylvia was on a week's leave.I was now to sleep for some hours over at Maggie's and when I woke up, she gave me some porridge to eat, telling me it would help me. She soon asked me what happened to her I hesitated at first because I felt so embarrassed so she told me not to bother and pro
