Chapter 29

Sophia climbed the stairs, her heart heavy with thoughts that tumbled over one another like rocks in a river.

She reached the top step and turned to face the door, her hand reaching for the knob. She pushed the door open and stepped inside, her eyes scanning the room for any sign of William.

But he was not there.

Sophia sighed, and walked over to the bed, sinking down onto the soft mattress. She closed her eyes, hoping that a moment of quiet would help clear her mind.

She couldn't shake off the memory of the kiss she shared with Andrew earlier that day, and the guilt was eating her up inside.

She knew she was in deep trouble if William found out about her kiss with Andrew, and she was also worried about Natalie's visit.

Sophia heard William's footsteps echoing in the hall, and her heartbeat quickened.
