Callum's POV

"Callum, you can't divorce Delia!"

The moment Delia Sutcliffe's mother, Rosalind Mayhew, heard the news, she rushed to the hospital to stop me.

"You two are so good together, and you've been through so much to get where you are today. I know you're hurting over this thing with her and Jensen, so I'll call Delia over right now and make her apologize to you!"

Maybe Delia thought the same thing. We'd weathered so many storms together, so how could we possibly end up divorced?

This time, though, I only shook my head with a bitter smile and pulled up a video. In a dimly lit room, Delia and Jensen Pike were tangled together, naked.

"Jensen, I wish we could stay inside the show forever and never have to be apart."

Jensen kissed her passionately, his voice rough. "If only I'd met you sooner."

I set the divorce papers in front of Rosalind and spoke quietly, "Her heart belongs to someone else now. If that's how it is, I might as well let her go."

The day I was discharged happened to be the day of Delia and Jensen's wedding. Fans all over the Internet were sending their blessings to the couple who'd fallen in love on set, and the giant screens on the office towers played their lavish, romantic wedding of the century on a loop.

Sunlight glinted off the luxury Rolex on Jensen's wrist, and the glare made my eyes sting.

When Delia and I first started out, we were both just background extras nobody noticed at Halvard Studios. Maybe chasing the same dream was what made us kindred spirits and brought us together.

When we got our marriage certificate, I spent every cent of my savings on a diamond ring for her. She swore back then that someday she'd buy me an even better watch, saying a good watch was what made a man look the part. Now, she was keeping that promise for another man.

The first time rumors about Delia and Jensen came out, I didn't sleep all night. She hugged me, full of guilt, and promised she'd be more careful from then on.

The second time, paparazzi caught them having dinner and seeing a movie together in private. She frowned and said it was just two colleagues grabbing a meal to talk about the script, then told me to stop looking for problems.

The third time, I was in a serious car accident. While I was alone in the hospital going through surgery, I received a video of the two of them getting a hotel room late at night. When I confronted her, Delia didn't back down in the slightest.

"We just went to a hotel after work to run lines! Callum Ward, can you stop having such a dirty mind all the time? I'm a public figure. If this stuff bothers you so much, you shouldn't have married me!"

When the show wrapped, Delia and Jensen kissed with tears streaming down their faces. The photo blew up online, and the comments were all strikingly similar.

"Look at their faces. They're totally still in character! My ship is real!"

"Delia's probably the only woman I've ever wanted to see cheat! She and Jensen belong together!"

"Can Delia's husband just step aside for them already? How is some nobody who quit the industry good enough for a Best Actress winner?"

From that day on, people started stalking me and coming after me in one way or another. Every time I tried to talk to Delia about it, she only answered coldly, "Our fans are very reasonable. They'd never do something like this. Maybe you should think about whether you've crossed someone."

It went on until the fire left me covered in burns. When I woke up, Delia handed me a set of divorce papers, her face cold.

"Jensen and I both need the buzz. It's just for show. Be good and stay out of trouble for this one month, and once the promotion's over, I'll remarry you."

As far as I was concerned, it was time for this marriage to end.

Callum's POVAt first, I didn't want anyone to know Maren and I were together. She was an A-list star now, several times more famous than Delia. Marrying me had already hurt Delia's image back then, let alone what it could do to Maren now.Maren never cared, though. Whenever she had time off at home, she'd drag me out to the mall and the movies, and we went on dates just like any ordinary couple. When fans recognized her, she'd greet them with a big smile and squeeze my hand tighter."Let me introduce you. This is my boyfriend."Even when we went out for evening walks and noticed paparazzi following us, she never made me hide. Instead, she'd hold me even tighter and plant a soft kiss on my cheek. The reaction online quickly went from shock to nothing but congratulations."Last time Maren went live, she said she was going after the boy who used to live next door. So it's Mr. Ward! Congrats on finally finding your happiness, Maren!""Honestly, ever since Mr. Ward started dating Ma

Callum's POVI followed Maren back home and thanked her, though I couldn't help feeling a little puzzled. "How did you just show up out of nowhere like that?"She paused for a beat, then answered like it was nothing, "I was just passing by."I laughed despite myself. "That place is way out in the suburbs, and there isn't even a grocery store nearby. How were you just passing by?"Maren shot me a flustered, irritated glare. "I've been worried about you for days, so I've been trailing you home every day to make sure you're safe. Happy now?"My eyes went wide, and I stared at her blankly. "Maren, why are you so good to me?"She pressed her lips together and looked at me, her voice quiet. "If I hadn't left back then, you wouldn't have ended up with her… and gone through so much."She added the last part without any warning, just when I thought she'd stopped. I froze, my thoughts suddenly all over the place, and looked her in the eye."I've never once thought that, I swear. Back whe

Third-Person's POVIt was late at night by the time Delia got home. She'd had a lot to drink, and when she squinted and unlocked the door, the house was dark and cold. At this hour, Jensen would already be in bed since he always went to sleep early. It suddenly occurred to Delia that whenever she used to come home from work dinners, no matter how late it was, Callum would always have soup warming on the stove to settle her stomach. If he couldn't stay awake any longer and had to go to bed, he'd still leave a small lamp on in the entryway, like a sentry waiting for her to come home. Now there wasn't any soup, let alone a light.Groggy, Delia made her way to the bedroom door without noticing the warm yellow light seeping through the crack. It wasn't until she heard the sounds coming from inside that she snapped awake. A man was breathing heavily, and a woman was moaning."If you hadn't helped me bribe that fan of Callum's to lie and testify against him, this whole plan wouldn't have

Callum's POVAfter I was discharged, Maren brought me back to her house. I wanted to turn her down, but she said she was always away filming, and the place sat empty most of the time, so I might as well stay there. Her housekeeper, Mrs. Pruitt, was a lovely woman who was always fussing that I was too thin and kept cooking me something new and delicious every day.I took out every cent of my savings, hoping to open a coffee shop. Maren threw her full support behind the idea. She helped me scout locations, look into brands, and even put up more money for it.I was grateful, but she only said, "Think of it as making up for all the years I couldn't help you."I really didn't see much of Maren during that time. She was busy every day, and sometimes, she'd come home, sit for a little while, and then rush off again.Mrs. Pruitt once asked me privately what was going on between Maren and me. I hesitated for a moment, then gave a wry smile and said we were just friends. If I were being h

Third-Person's POVOutside Rosalind's hospital room, Maren had run into Delia's bodyguards. When she pressed them, they admitted that Delia had taken Callum to the underground fight club, and Maren had gone straight after them. Now she looked at the man lying unconscious in the hospital bed and thought back to everything she'd seen when she got to the club. Down by her side, where Callum couldn't see, her hand curled slightly and wouldn't stop trembling. If she'd been even a moment later, things would've spiraled completely out of control.By the time Maren arrived, a tiger already had Callum pinned beneath it, its jaws aimed right at his throat. She pulled out her gun and fired without hesitation, and all five bullets hit their mark. Once the tigers were dead, the bodyguards she'd brought went in to get him out.Maren rushed Callum to the hospital. The doctor said he had no life-threatening injuries, just some surface wounds, and that he'd be fine with some rest. Only then did sh

  • Married to a Star, Hunted Like a Villain   Chapter 5

Callum's POVI had a long, long dream. In it, I was back to when Delia and I first met. I was playing a footman, and she was playing a lady's maid. In corners the cameras couldn't catch, she'd stick out her pinky in a prim little pose and make faces at me.It was scorching hot, and during breaks, the big-name actors had their own trailers parked in the best shady spots, while the rest of us could only huddle in a corner fanning ourselves. Delia always seemed to show up behind me holding an ice cream bar.I stared at her in surprise. "I thought extras didn't get ice cream?"She casually sat down on the step above me, blocking the sun and giving me a patch of shade. "I found a way."She said it like it was nothing, but I knew how hard it was to get that ice cream bar. The production coordinator played favorites, so if he'd handed Delia one, who knew how many snide remarks she'd have to put up with for it?A warmth spread through my chest, and I tilted my head up to look at her.
