Mag-log inElena’s POV
Lucien stared at me deeply .It was like he already knew something was wrong.
“Why do you smell like a baby, Elena?” he asked again, and it was slower this time.
And I froze and my mouth opened, but no words came out.
He stepped back a little, but his eyes didn't move and they watched me.
I forced a fake smile.
“I… I passed a woman with a baby. In the elevator. Maybe it rubbed off.”
My voice sounded too light and careful and I didn't even believe it.
He didn’t nod, or smile and he didn't say anything. He just kept looking at me
There was silence between us, and then, finally, he turned and walked away.
I didn’t move until I heard his door shut.
__ That night, I skipped dinner and I stayed in my room. I didn’t even open the door.I sat on the floor beside my bed and hugged Jace’s teddy bear to my chest.
It was the one he gave me at the hospital, right before I left and it still smelled like him. It was warm, sweet.I hugged it very tight, like it could protect me, like it could hide the truth.
Then I got up and my hands shook.
I got to my drawer and pushed the teddy bear deep under some sweater and I covered it with layers of old clothes. It was too dangerous and If Lucien saw it, he would know.
I closed the drawer and my fingers stayed on the handle. I wanted to cry, but the tears wouldn’t come.
I lay in bed and I stared at the ceiling.
I didn’t sleep.Lucien knew something was wrong and I saw it in his eyes.
And when Lucien started asking questions, he didn’t stop until he found answers.
—
In the morning, the house was too quiet.
There were no footsteps, no voices and there was no Lucien.I walked out slowly and my heart beat faster with every step.
The living room was empty.
But on the table, I see a hot cup of coffee.
Steam curls up from the top. He made it not long ago.Next to it, there’s a note in his sharp, cold handwriting:
“Be in my office by nine.”
I sat down on the edge of the couch and I held the coffee with both hands.
My fingers shook, but I tried to hold still.I glanced up.
There’s a small red light that blinked on the security camera.
Is he watching me right now?
—
At 8:55, I walked into Lucien’s office. Lucien sat behind his desk, his face blank and his eyes were tired but sharp.
I stood quietly, and I waited for him to speak, but he didn’t.
Instead, he picked up a file and handed it to me. “Review this proposal,” he said.
“And fix the numbers. We are meeting with the board at noon.”
I took the file with both hands. “Yes. Of course.”
He didn’t look at me again.
I turned and walked to the other end of the office where the small assistant desk sat by the window. I sat down and opened the file. My eyes scanned the numbers, but I wasn’t reading them.
I could feel his eyes on my back.
Time passed slowly. I stood up to get coffee. His private office door was open with just a crack. As I passed by, I heard a voice from inside.
“…she goes there almost every night.”
I stopped.
The voice wasn’t Lucien’s.
“Hospital, yes. I will send the photos today.”
I held my breath.
Then I heard Lucien’s voice, it was low, sharp and serious.
“Keep watching her. Every minute. I want to know what she’s hiding.”
My heart slammed against my chest.
He had someone following me.
He knew I was going to the hospital.
He didn’t trust me.
He was right.
I pressed a hand over my mouth and backed away from the door.
If he found out about Jace… about who he really was… I would lose everything.—
After work, I rushed to the hospital.
The elevator took too long. My chest was tight the whole ride up.
When I stepped out, the doctor was already waiting near Jace’s room. His face looked tired, serious.
“What’s wrong?” I asked quickly.
He looked at me gently. “Jace’s condition is getting worse. We don’t have much time.”
“I’ll get the surgery,” I said. “I’ll find the money. I’ll—”
“It’s not about money, Ms. Rivera.”
I blinked. “Then what is it?”
“We need a donor. Someone with matching DNA. A parent, or a close relative.”
I still went.
“A… a donor?” I whispered.
He nodded. “A parent is best. A sibling could also work. We need someone with his blood. His genes.”
My legs felt weak. My fingers went cold.
“I can’t…” I said.
“If there’s someone else,” the doctor said softly. “Even the father…”
“There is no one,” I said quickly.
He looked at me. “Are you sure?”
I nodded. But my heart whispered something else.
—
That evening, I returned to the penthouse.
I dropped my bag on the table and sat on the couch.
In my hand was a small plush bunny with a blue bow.
Jace’s favorite toy.
I didn’t even know how it got into my purse. Maybe I took it by accident when I was leaving the hospital, I held it close.
“Is that yours?”
Lucien’s voice came from behind me. It was cold and sharp.
I jumped. “What?”
He stepped closer. His eyes were on the toy. “The bunny. Is it yours?”
I hid it behind me. “It’s just an old toy. From when I was little.”
His eyes didn’t blink. He didn’t believe me.
But he said nothing. He just walked away.
I ran to my room and shoved the bunny deep into a box of scarves. But I knew it was already too late.
Lucien had started watching me closely.
And he was putting the pieces together.
—
The next morning, I stepped out of my room and heard the door to Lucien’s office shut.
Something told me to look.
I crept toward the hallway.
His door wasn’t fully closed.
I peeked through the crack.
Lucien sat alone, the morning sun bright behind him. His face looked darker than ever.
Then I heard it, just a soft sound. A small click, like something opened on his phone.
He didn’t move. Didn’t blink. Just stared down at the screen in his hand.
His face was tight. His jaw locked. One hand clenched the phone so hard.
Then I heard him speak.
Low.
Rough.
“Who the hell…”
He paused.
“…is this child?”
My knees weakened. I backed away fast, my heart in my throat.
He saw something .
He knew something.
Elena’s POV The world felt different this morning, it was cold, quiet and heavy. When I woke up, my phone wouldn't stop vibrating. At first, I ignored it, but the sound kept coming and I reached for it and froze. My name was everywhere, every news page, every gossip site and every comment.“Lucien Stone’s wife was caught in an affair before marriage.” Leaked photos: Elena and an unknown man in a hotel. My hands shook as I scrolled faster, hoping it was fake, but the pictures…They were real and were old.I could still remember that night. It was before I met Lucien. It meant nothing. But now… it looks wrong. My stomach twisted and I felt dizzy. Who would do this?I heard Lucien’s steps before I saw him. He walked into the living room, dressed in his usual suit, calm and sharp as ever. His phone was in his hand too, he must have seen it.“Lucien,” I said softly, but he didn’t answer.I stepped closer. “It’s not what it looks like. Those photos are old. Someone..m”He finally look
Lucien’s POV The Silent TrapThe morning after the party, I sat in my office and the city stretched in front of me, bright and calm, but my head was not. Daniel’s calls from last night wouldn’t stop replaying. The ransom money came from Madelina’s foundation account.I still couldn’t believe it. Madelina was my step mother, she was like my mother. But Daniel’s report sat open on my desk and every number matched and every transfer led back to her charity.I pressed my fingers against my forehead and exhaled slowly. “No,” I whispered, “It has to be a mistake.”My phone buzzed and it was Daniel again.“Lucien,” he said quickly, “I checked twice. It was real, the same line, the same amount. Someone used the foundation to move the ransom money.”I closed my eyes. “Don’t tell anyone. Not the finance team, not even the board. Keep digging quietly.”“Got it,” Daniel said. “What do you want me to do next?”“Follow the movement,” I answered, “If the money moves again, I want to know before any
Elena’s POVMorning came heavy, I sat by the window, still in the same clothes from last night, my head hurts and my eyes were swollen. I heard voices downstairs, his and someone else’s, it was soft, and too close.I stood and slowly walked out of the room. My feet were weak and the house was quiet, but something didn’t feel right and I felt eyes on me.When I reached the top of the stairs, I paused, there was a shadow in the hallway. Someone moved quickly past the corner. My chest tightened and I whispered, “Who’s there?” But there was no answer.I clutched my phone tight and kept walking, every sound was loud, the ticking clock, and my heartbeat, even the rustle of my hair.In the kitchen, I saw a cup on the counter, it was Lucien’s.Then I heard faint laughter from the living room, a woman's voice, it was familiar, smooth and cold.I moved closer and the sound grew clearer.“Lucien, I’m only here because I care,” she said and my blood ran cold. That voice.I stepped into the doorw
Elena’s POVThe air in the house was heavy and Lucien's silence cut deeper than any word, he didn’t shout, he didn’t question, but every time I moved, I felt his eyes on me, watching, measuring, knowing. At breakfast, he barely touched his food, the sound of the spoon against his cup felt too loud.“Did you sleep?” I asked softly. He looked up, and his eyes were unreadable. “You?”I nodded even though I didn’t and my hands shook under the table. He nodded once and said nothing more, the silence stretched between us like glass, it was clear, fragile, ready to break. When I left the dining room, I felt his gaze follow me and every step I took felt watched.I went to my room and shut the door and my phone vibrated at once and my chest tightened when I saw the number, it was the kidnappers again.A message flashes on the screen. “He knows. Keep quiet, or your son dies tonight.”I dropped the phone and my whole body trembled and tears filled my eyes. “Please, not my baby,” I whispered.I
Lucien’s POVShe froze when I said her name and the moonlight fell across her face, showing the fear in her eyes.“Elena,” I said again, walking closer. “What are you doing in my office?”She stepped back, clutching the edge of my desk. “I..I was just looking for you.”“Looking for me?” My tone was sharpened. “While ransacking my office? In my locked office?”Her eyes darted to the drawer behind her, then back to me. “I heard a noise. I thought you were here.”I stopped in front of her, close enough to see her breathing fast. “Don’t lie to me.”“I’m not lying,” she whispered.I grabbed her wrist gently but firmly. “Then tell me what you were really doing.”Her lips trembled. “I….I can’t.”My patience snapped and I pulled her closer, my hand on the desk beside her, she gasped softly as her back hit the table.“Who are you working for, Elena?” My voice dropped low. “You think I won’t find out?”Tears filled her eyes. “Lucien, please, it’s not what you think.”“Then make me understand.”
Elena’s POVI couldn’t stop shaking when I stepped out of the taxi. The hospital stood tall in front of me.I kept my hood low as I walked inside, my heart beat fast, afraid someone would recognize me. I shouldn’t be here. If Lucien found out, he would lose control, but I couldn’t sit and wait anymore. I needed to find my son.A cleaner was mopping the floor near the nurse station. He looked older, with a tired face and kind eyes.“Excuse me,” I whispered, and stepped closer. “Were you here that night… the night a little boy was taken?”He looked up sharply, his mop stopping mid-air. “You mean the missing child? Yes, ma’am. Everyone here still talks about it.”My throat tightened. “Do you remember anything? Please… anything at all.”He sighed and looked around, making sure no one was listening and then he leaned closer. “There was something strange that day. A woman came before it happened. Well-dressed. Expensive perfume. Blonde hair.”My stomach dropped “Blonde?”He nodded slowly. “
