“Can I ask you something?” I said, my voice softer than usual.

I remembered something Sarah said. That he wasn’t always like this. That he wasn’t always a playboy. This was my best chance to ask him; now that we are talking like civilians.

He didn’t look at me. "Yeah sure."

I’ve been thinking,” I said slowly. “About the rules.”

“Oh boy.”

“No, I mean—" I held up a hand. "We made that rule about not bringing up past entanglements, right?”

“Rule three, yes. Also known as ‘don’t poke the trauma bear.’”

I gave him a look. “But what if we… slightly poke it? I’m not saying details. I’m just… curious.”

He narrowed his eyes, suspicious. “Curious how?”

“Sarah said something the other day.” I tried to sound as soft as possible.

His head turned slightly. “Sarah?”

“The maid. You know, the fifty-something-year-old who somehow manages to intimidate me with just her silence?”

Nathaniel looked mildly amused. “Oh her! Guess you were snooping around, suddenly picked an interest in me?"

I waved my hand a

"What did you just say?" Priscilla was already charging toward my mother, face twisted with rage, fists clenched. “You think this is a scene? You think this is drama? My sister is in a coma because of all of you!”“Control yourself, young lady...you are drawing attention for nothing.” Jessica snapped, lifting a brow like this was beneath her and she didn't care about her emotional state.“You know what?” Priscilla growled. “I’ll just go to prison today. I’m okay with that.” She rolled up her sleeves and lunged at Jessica, but David was quicker. He wrapped his arms around her waist from behind, pulling her back. “Pris! No! Not now,” he said urgently, tightening his grip as she kicked and thrashed.“Let me go!” she screamed. “Let me just punch her one time. One fucking time!”“Stop it,” David hissed. “Ava wouldn’t want this.”

  • Married to the Billionaire to Divorce Him   Chapter 84

Nathaniel’s POVThe gunshot echoed like thunder. For a second, the world slowed. My legs kept moving. Ava’s weight was still pressed to my chest. But something warm splattered across my side, and then I felt a sharp, burning sting tore through my upper shoulder. The force jerked me sideways, and I stumbled, nearly dropping her.I gritted my teeth, forcing myself upright. “I’m hit,” I growled.David spun around, eyes wide. “Where?!”“Shoulder. I can move. Keep going.” I couldn't let that hold me back. We were almost at the door when another shot rang out closer this time. David turned and fired back. “Go! I’ve got you covered!”I tightened my grip on Ava. She wasn’t moving. Her face was pale, blood seeping slowly from the back of her head onto my shirt. Her breath was shallow, but it was there. Still there. Still with me.“Hold on, baby. Please,” I

Nathaniel’s POV'You've got to be kidding me.' I gasped. The man who stepped out from the shadows made my blood run cold. It was James. Ava’s ex. The same man who had tormented her, showed up at our wedding, stalked her, humiliated her. Now he stood next to Josh with a smug, twisted grin like this was some game.“You?” I breathed, stunned.James tilted his head. “Long time, Hargrave.”Josh laughed. “Surprised? You shouldn’t be. You break men like us and think there won’t be consequences?”Ava was trembling. Her clothe was drenched from the cold, barely covering her frame. Her eyes locked with mine—pleading, terrified.Josh stepped forward, reaching for the clasp of her cloak. “Let’s show the golden boy what he’s fighting for.”“Don’t you fucking touch her!” I roared, lunging forward but a deafening gunshot cracked near my l

  • Married to the Billionaire to Divorce Him   Chapter 82

Nathaniel’s POV"I'm going alone." I muttered, rushing to the locker to pick something to wear. I wore all black with a cap. I checked my phone and noticed the address was sent.I had no choice but to go alone. No police, no agent, nobody....just me. I couldn’t risk them knowing. I couldn’t risk Ava’s life.I grabbed the printed map and stuffed a gun into my waistband, and grabbed my jacket.I quietly sneaked out of the house, got inside it, then slammed the door of my car and started the engine, my mind racing with possibilities. What did Josh want? Why hadn’t he just called for a ransom? Why take her? Hope he didn't touch her sexually. He wanted me. That much was obvious, and he was using Ava as bait. He could break every bone in my body, but if there was even a one percent chance that I could get her back safe… I’d take it.I was ten minutes out of the city before I noticed a car tailing me. It was a Black SUV. It was on

Nathaniel's POVThe CCTV footage came on, through my laptop screen. My heart was beating fast. David stood behind me with his arms crossed. We both leaned in, watching the screen like it held our last hope. There she was in the house wrapped in nothing but my white bedsheet she had over her this morning. Her hair was still messy but she looked...excited. She moved quickly toward the door."She looks like she was expecting someone," David muttered.I gritted my teeth and my jealousy kicked in. "Move back," I snapped, reaching behind me and trying to block his view. "You don't need to see her like that."David scoffed. "Relax, man. I'm not looking at her body. I'm trying to help."I wanted to punch something. I wasn't okay with him seeing Ava half naked. On screen, she opened the door, smiling. But in an instant, her smile vanished and she froze. We couldn’t see who it was yet."Zoom in on the door camera," I said urgently.

  • Married to the Billionaire to Divorce Him   Chapter 80

"All I wanted was some peace and quiet, cuddled up with Ava." I whined to my reflection in the rear mirror. I barely made it ten minutes down the road before my phone started vibrating nonstop again. Three missed calls from the office, two from Jessica, one from my Father. I pulled over into a side street, resting my forehead against the steering wheel. What the hell was happening to me?I could still taste Ava on my lips. Her moaning echoed in my ears. Her body, warm and molded perfectly against mine, had left an imprint on my skin I was sure wouldn’t fade. And yet, I was being pulled right back into reality. She wasn’t just some girl I was forced to marry anymore. She was... Ava. Someone I thought I didn't find attractive, but is now driving me crazy.I gripped the wheel tighter, trying to shake the image of her asleep in my bed, tangled in the sheets. I meant every damn word I said to her. I wanted more than just a contract. I wanted her. But did she believe me? Did she even want
