Tristan’s POV

By the time I stepped into the house, the urgency from the call had already faded.

My sister, Patricia, was waiting at the foyer.

“She’s been asking for you,” she said. “Her blood pressure spiked earlier, and we tried to calm her down, but she just wouldn’t budge.”

I didn’t respond. I walked past her, taking the stairs two at a time.

I stood right in front of abuela’s door, taking a deep breath before I pushed it open.

She sat upright, looking less fragile than I had imagined. The moment her eyes landed on me, her expression changed.

“Tristan, there you are,” she said, as if she hadn’t just caused a scene. “Come on in.”

I exhaled softly, stepping closer. “Patricia said something was wrong.”

“Yes. You weren’t home,” she replied.

“You scared everyone.”

“I just wanted to make sure you’re okay.” She said, tapping the space next to her, gesturing for me to sit.

“But I am fine.” I said as I reached for the glass of water beside her.

I sat next to her, helped her drink the water.

She took a slow sip.

“I had a terrifying dream,” she said quietly. “I’m allowed to be worried, aren’t I?”

“I understand, Abuela, but sometimes you don’t have to get so worked up about something as trivial as a dream,” I replied calmly. “The doctor said you need enough rest, so your blood pressure is regulated.”

“Rest is for the dead. I’m not dead yet,” she replied. “Besides, the dream I had wasn’t trivial.”

“Regardless, you still need to be calm.”

A brief pause settled in the room.

“When are you getting married, Tristan?” she asked quietly.

My jaw tightened slightly. Talk about perfect timing. I was expecting that question.

“Abuela—“

“No!” She cut in sharply. “Don’t ‘Abuela’ me. Every time I bring it up, you always find a way to avoid it.”

“I’m dying, Tristan,” she continued. “Don’t you think I deserve a great-grandchild before I die?”

I ran a hand through my hair, already feeling the conversation slipping into something familiar.

“You worry too much.”

“I worry because you still refuse to give me the one thing I want,” she said, her voice softer now. “A wife, Tristan.”

“Let’s not even talk about what I want,” she continued. “I want to see you settled. I want to know that you’re not alone.”

“I have you and Patricia.”

“Patricia is your sister. Of course, she will always be with you. But I’m talking about a companion.”

I remained silent.

“You won’t have to worry about that.” I said finally.

Her eyes locked on me. “What does that mean?”

“It means I’ll handle it.”

“That is not an answer.” she said.

“It’s the only one you’re getting tonight.”

She let out a short breath.

“You know, you’re just like your mother. She was also very stubborn.”

“You tell me all the time,” I said, grinning softly.

I adjusted the blanket over her, quietly and carefully.

“Get some rest.” I muttered as I kissed her forehead.

I stood there for a few seconds, watching her drift off. I made sure she was actually asleep this time before I walked out.

I saw Patricia heading to her room as I stepped out.

“She’s fine now.” I said.

She nodded. “I’m going to get some rest.”

I pulled her into a warm embrace, pressing a kiss to her cheek. “Sleep well, hermanita.”

Daniel was waiting downstairs.

“Is she okay?” he asked.

“She’s fine.”

Daniel nodded. “Okay, that’s good.”

There was a brief pause.

“How did the date go?” Daniel asked.

My gaze flickered slightly.

“Well, she’s a hard nut to crack.”

Daniel let out a short laugh. “Tell me about it.”

“Anyway,” he continued. “The Whitmore deal is locked in. Papers are ready whenever they are.”

“Good,” I said. “Just make sure everything goes smoothly.

“But there just might be a problem,” Daniel said.

“And what could that be?” I asked.

“Marcus isn’t being completely honest with us.”

“How so?” I asked. “Is it about the debt?”

“Not just the debt,” he replied. “There are other liabilities. And it’s—“

My phone buzzed in my pocket, cutting him off.

I pulled it out and glanced at it. My expression darkened.

“What is it?” Daniel asked.

“Fuck.”

“Everything okay, Tristan?”

I looked up at him. “What? Yes. Everything’s okay.”

He looked at me like he didn’t believe a word I said.

“Are you sure?”

“You should go. We’ll continue our discussion tomorrow.”

“Very well then,” he said. “Good night.”

I didn’t move immediately after Daniel left.

The sound of the door closing echoed faintly through the house before silence settled in.

Then I turned.

My steps were unhurried as I walked down the hallway, past the main living area, toward a part of the house most people didn’t even know existed.

I stopped in front of a door.

There was no handle or visible lock.

I pressed my thumb against the scanner.

A soft click followed.

The door unlocked.

I stepped inside.

The air was colder down here, heavier.

I reached into my pocket, pulling out a cigarette and a lighter.

A quiet flick.

The flame danced briefly before the tip glowed.

I took a slow drag, exhaling just as I moved further in.

A figure sat in the dim light ahead. Still.

I stopped a few steps away, eyes settling on the man.

“What the fuck do you think you’re doing?”

“Please, Tristan,” he begged.

I let out a dark laugh. “Do you think anyone would hear you?”

I took another drag from the cigarette.

“You know, you’re making things harder for yourself than they already are.”

There was a brief silence.

“I’ll deal with you when I have the time,” I continued. “But right now…”

I flicked the cigarette away, the ember dying on the floor.

“…you stay exactly where you are.”

I turned and left the room.

His pleas echoed behind me, desperate and broken.

I didn’t look back because I didn’t care.

Tristan’s POVDaniel and I stepped out of the study, the door closing softly behind us. I walked downstairs, my steps measured. Daniel followed. Abuela sat comfortably in the living area, Patricia beside her. They were mid-conversation, their expressions relaxed. “Where’s Natasha?” I asked, my eyes scanning the room. Patricia looked up first. “Oh. You just missed her.”My brows furrowed slightly. “Missed her?”“She said she had to leave,” Abuela added gently. “Something came up.”My gaze sharpened. “Did she say anything else?”Patricia shook her head. “No. Just that she needed to go.”“Okay,” I said. There was a brief pause. “Didn’t she tell you she was leaving?” Abuela asked, looking surprised. “Tell me she was leaving? I left her with you downstairs.”“I thought she came to your study,” Patricia said. “She came to my study?” I asked. Abuela nodded. “Yes. She said you mentioned some documents.”The silence that followed stretched thin. I didn’t move. My mind replayed the l

Natasha’s POV. I turned at the sound of the voice. My gaze landed first on the woman. Older. Graceful. Fragile, but not weak. She stood beside Tristan, her hand resting lightly in his as if it had always belonged there. There was something about the way he held her—careful and steady. A side of him I had never seen beyond the cocky, provocative façade he put on. Behind them stood another woman, younger. That must be his sister. For a moment, I simply stood there—taking it all in. This version of Tristan felt… different. Softer. Different from what people described. He was known to be cold, ruthless. I had never seen that side of him, nor have I seen this one. “Abuela,” Tristan said quietly, his tone carrying a gentleness I hadn’t expected. “This is Natasha.” “Natasha, this is my grandmother…” he paused, then turned to the woman behind him. “…and this is my sister, Patricia.” Their faces lit up instantly. “Hello, Natasha.” Patricia said with so much enthusiasm. “He

  • Married to the Devil   Chapter 9–You Must Be Natasha.

Natasha’s POV. I had not planned to go jogging this morning. But sleep had come in fragments. My mind was restless and unsettled. By the time the sun began to rise, I threw on a sports bra and tight shorts, with a pair of sneakers. The air outside was cool. I adjusted the earbuds in my ears, letting the music fill the silence as I began to jog. I’d say Ananya does have an amazing playlist. She had sent me her Indian playlist when I was grieving Lucas. I never really listened to them because it was hard to understand what they were saying and I didn’t really like them—I never wanted to upset Ananya or her culture. My pace was steady, my breathing controlled. Each step grounded me, pulling me away from the thoughts I didn’t want to revisit. After a while, I slowed down, coming to a stop by the side of the road. I bent slightly, stretching my legs, rolling my shoulders before straightening again. My gaze lifted briefly, scanning my surroundings without much thought. Everyth

  • Married to the Devil   Chapter 8–Where Were You This Morning

Natasha’s POV. The house was quiet when I got home after my meeting with Tristan. I went into the kitchen to make myself a coffee. I moved around the kitchen, reaching for the kettle and filling it with water. I set the kettle down a little harder than necessary, turning it on as I leaned against the counter. My fingers tapped lightly against the surface, absentmindedly while I waited, my mind refusing to stay still. I pushed off the counter to grab a mug from the cabinet, setting it down as my thoughts drifted back to the cafe. The kettle clicked off, cutting through the silence. I straightened up immediately as I moved to pour the hot water into the mug, the steam rising in soft waves. The coffee dissolved instantly. I stirred it slowly, watching the spoon circle as if it had answers my thoughts didn’t. I stopped stirring. The spoon clinked softly against the ceramic as I set it down. My fingers curled slightly at my sides as the thoughts settled again, heavier th

  • Married to the Devil   Chapter 7- Keep Her Waiting

Tristan’s POV I stared at my phone before dialing the number. It rang repeatedly, then straight to voicemail. I dialed again. It rang once. Twice. “Hello?” Her voice came through, sleepy. A faint smile touched my lips. “Natasha.” “Who is—“ There was a pause on the other end. “Tristan.” she said. I could hear the irritation creeping into her voice. “How the hell did you get this number?” Of course that would be the first thing she asked. “I told you,” I replied smoothly, leaning back in my chair. “I have my ways.” I could almost picture the annoyance on her face. “Yeah, sure, Castillo. What is it that you want this early?” she asked. “We need to meet.” “For what exactly?” “To talk,” I replied matter-of-factly. “About your father’s company.” Silence followed. “You should be having that conversation with him. Not me.” she said finally. My gaze darkened slightly. “That would be the logical approach if this were just business.” “And i

  • Married to the Devil   Chapter 6-You’re Always Lucky

Natasha’s POV I shut the door behind me and leaned against it, exhaling slowly. My gaze drifted across the room. It should be comforting, but it only reminded me of how little control I actually had over my life. Marriage. To Tristan. A man I barely know. The word still didn’t sit right. I pushed myself off the door and walked further into my room, kicking off my heels carelessly before sinking onto the edge of the bed. My phone sat beside me. For a moment, I stared at it. There were several missed calls from Ananya. I hadn’t responded to her texts from this morning, nor had I returned her calls. I took a deep breath. Then I picked up the phone and dialed. It didn’t even ring twice. “Natasha?” her voice came through immediately. “Finally! Do you know how many times I’ve tried calling you?” I let out a quiet sigh. “I’m fine.” “Don’t ’I’m fine’ me,” Ananya snapped. “You disappeared after the club. I was literally looking for you everywhere.” “I left.”
