Tristan’s POV

I thought after seventeen years things would have been different.

Nothing about today felt right.

The noise of the party and the smiles on people’s faces became unbearable.

After Natasha got pulled away, I tried. I fucking tried to stay composed, but it was impossible. I felt my pulse thumping hard. Everything almost became blurry.

I reached for a glass of wine and downed it. Then another. And another.

Lorena should still be alive.

  • Married to the Devil   Chapter 95–Party’s Over

Natasha’s POVTristan didn’t move at first, then slowly he got to his feet and turned to me. His expression was void. Calm. Too calm. A slow smile crossed his face, like any of this was normal. “My wife is here.” He walked over, pulled me further in and helped me sit. “I need you to meet someone.”My eyes stayed on the man struggling with the chains as I sat. My heart thundered in my ears. Tristan crouched beside me. “Natasha—”“Please, Tristan,” I whispered, tears burning my eyes. “Let him down.”“I haven’t even—”“Please,” I urged.Tristan slowly rose to his feet and made his way toward the man. “I’m only doing this because my wife asked me to.”I didn’t know what Tristan did. All I knew was the man started descending to the ground. The moment his body hit the floor, I sucked in a sharp breath I didn’t know I was holding. The man was breathing harshly. I had so many questions, but right now, I was more terrified of Tristan. He loosened the metal around the man’s neck and looked

  • Married to the Devil   Chapter 94–Seventeen Years Ago

Author’s POV August 28, 2009The day started the way most summer days did in Miami. Hot. Alive. Loud. Tristan Castillo was turning fourteen. The house smelled like vanilla and burnt sugar. Fourteen-year-old Tristan sat at the edge of the living-room sofa, one knee bouncing, watching the kitchen doorway. Adelina had promised the cake would be ready before noon. He had already checked the main entrance and peeped through the window several times because his mother had promised him a digital camera. His father had promised him… well. Three-year-old Patricia was outside with the neighborhood kid. Armando was on a call in the study, discussing his next shipment. The house felt unusually warm. Tristan burst into the kitchen, accidentally knocking a plate from Adelina's hand. The glass shattered into pieces. “Tristan,” Adelina called softly. “Why are you so impatient?”“I’m sorry, Abuela.” He bent to clean the mess on the floor. “It was taking too long.”The glass pricked his index

I didn’t know when the glass I was holding shattered until someone called my attention to it. “Tristan, you’re bleeding.”I looked down at my hand for a moment longer than necessary.Patricia walked over. “Let me clean it.”“No.” I stepped back. The cracks in my composure were starting to show and in moments like this, I didn’t want to hurt anyone. “Are you alright, Tristan?” Daniel asked, placing a hand on my shoulder. “Please, Daniel.”He slowly dropped his hand to his side. He knew not to press further. Eric stepped closer, but Da

  • Married to the Devil   Chapter 92–Happy Birthday

Natasha’s POVWho knew replanning a birthday your husband had recently cancelled would be hard? That wasn’t the hardest part. The hardest part was having to comfort him in his sleep just hours before his birthday. Not hard, but worrisome. Around three a.m., Tristan was fidgeting, having nightmares and just couldn’t sleep. He was muttering things like, “It was a mistake.” What was? I had no idea. All I did was hold him steady. The minute he snapped his eyes open, he withdrew. By the time the sun was high and the house had filled with the quiet chaos of last-minute preparations, we were already getting dressed.“You know you can still cancel the birthday if you want,” I said, adjusting his bow tie. “I know,” he replied, his voice low, “but Adelina is watching. She might go, ‘Tristan, why are you so stubborn?’ and I wouldn’t know how to respond.”A faint smile crossed my face. “For someone who claims not to do ties, you sure aren’t doing a good job.”“It’s from Abuela.” He grinn

  • Married to the Devil   Chapter 91–From Her Grave

Tristan’s POV The last of the afternoon sun was already thinning out when Daniel and I stepped out of the building, heading toward the parking lot. Daniel was still on the phone with the dirty cop. Whatever they were discussing didn’t sound good, but it wasn’t my business. From afar, I caught a glimpse of Francis standing beside one of the cars. What the hell was the bastard doing here?“Carlos is dead,” Daniel announced. “Killed last night in his cell.”I faced Daniel. “Well… may his soul rot in hell.”Daniel looked at me. “There’s only one person who would’ve done it.”“Who?” I asked. “It could be anyone. He pissed off a lot of people. He had different—”“It was Gonzalo,” Daniel interrupted. “That’s what the cop said.”“I’m not surprised,” I said. “He’s tried to kill Carlos once, but failed. He probably finished his job. And honestly, Daniel, I don’t give a damn. You shouldn’t either.”Daniel rubbed the back of his neck. “I just need you to be careful. You know that man never let

  • Married to the Devil   Chapter 90–Who Are You?

Natasha’s POVTristan hadn’t shed a single tear since Adelina died, and I was starting to get worried about him. Or maybe he had. I couldn’t possibly know. He stayed in Adelina’s room for the rest of the day after the burial. Every time I checked, he was either seated on the floor or curled up. Even when I asked him to come to our bedroom, he insisted on staying. I couldn’t push him too far. I also couldn’t help but worry. Patricia hadn’t set foot out of her room either. The whole house was grieving, and I felt bad because somehow, I had a project to complete before the winter holiday. Adelina was dead, but Lena had a penthouse to move into. A sharp breath escaped me. I’d been up checking Italian furniture websites and making enquiries about how long their production took. Their lead time is twelve weeks. I didn’t even have ten. I had until November and early December to finish the project. The only way to bypass the waiting list is to be in Milan showrooms in person. Why

  • Married to the Devil   Chapter 3–Well… Fuck Me

Natasha’s POV “Hell fucking no! You can’t be serious,” I said. “You really expect me to marry Tristan Castillo? The same Tristan who was rumored to have killed his own parents?” I laughed after I said that, because the whole thing sounded like a bad joke. My father didn’t react immediately. H

  • Married to the Devil   Chapter 2–He Wants You, Natasha

Natasha’s POV I woke up to a throbbing headache. My head felt heavy against the pillow. The dull pain reminded me of the whiskey I had insisted on drinking last night. Sunlight pierced through the half-closed blinds of my bedroom. I groaned softly, pressing my palm against my forehead as fragm

  • Married to the Devil   Chapter 1–A Stranger At The Club

Natasha’s POV The music was too loud. I wasn’t sure if that was a good thing or a bad thing. The pounding bass pulsing through the nightclub drowned my thoughts. On the other hand, the flashing lights and the bodies pressed against each other on the dance floor made everything unbearable. I

  • Married to the Devil   Chapter 5–You Worry Too Much

Tristan’s POV By the time I stepped into the house, the urgency from the call had already faded. My sister, Patricia, was waiting at the foyer. “She’s been asking for you,” she said. “Her blood pressure spiked earlier, and we tried to calm her down, but she just wouldn’t budge.” I didn’t resp
