Myriam let out a sigh.

“Would it be all right if I give you an answer tomorrow?” she asked. “I need to think it over.”

“Perfect, take the afternoon off,” Isis suggested.

The first thing Myriam did after leaving was go to the bank and open a savings account. Then she stopped by Elsa’s clinic and told her what had happened with Gerald.

“He takes advantage of you because he knows you need the money,” Elsa protested indignantly, embracing her tightly.

“He’s heartless. From now on I’ll call him Gerald, heart of stone. Although I hope I never see him again,” Myriam said.

Elsa pursed her lips, took off her doctor’s coat, hung it on the rack, and invited Myriam to dinner.

That night, alone in her room, Myriam wondered if she was doing the right thing going back to work for Isis. Then she remembered Jeremy’s sweet face and how much fun they had together. That’s how she decided to return to take care of him.
