“There are people capable of breaking through our barriers and bringing out the best in us,” Gerald said without looking away from Myriam. “It would be impossible not to succumb to those eyes that say everything.”

Her breath hitched; her legs trembled, and her heart pounded violently in her chest.

“Sometimes it’s good to break the rules,” he whispered before pulling her close and sealing her lips with his in a kiss filled with soul and fire.

She closed her eyes and clung to his neck, returning that caress with life, heart, and total surrender.

“I won’t walk away,” she murmured against his lips, remembering vividly what he had asked her the night she was delirious with fever.

Gerald’s heart throbbed as if every beat demanded that he keep her in his life.

The journalists needed no further proof. That kiss—and Gerald Lennox’s public confession—completely eclipsed Silvia’s scandal.

The soft notes of electric guitars drifted from the upper floor of the chalet. Gerald was climbing the stairs when he stopped halfway, arching a brow as he recognized the melody.“Estoy enamorado,” by Donato & Estefano. He drew in a deep breath and continued upward, letting the song wrap around him. At the end of the hallway, he came across Amelia.“Good evening, sir,” she greeted. “The issue with Tony’s bathroom is fixed, but the plumber said the bathtub won’t be usable until tomorrow.”Gerald gave a slight nod.“Thank you.”Just then, Tony’s babbling echoed.“Pa-pa-pa,” the boy repeated, waving his arms excitedly at the sight of his father.Gerald’s heart trembled. He approached the crib, but the mischievous boy scampered to the other corner, giggling.“Well, looks like you want to play tonight,” Gerald said, circling the crib to catch him as Tony evaded him again and again, laughing.“Mrs. Myriam asked me to tell you her mother invited you both to dinner,” Amelia informed.Gerald e

Gerald shot to his feet in one swift motion. His blood boiled in his veins; he was about to grab Raymond by the throat when Myriam stopped him."You’re worth more than him. Don’t stoop to his level," she whispered, trembling. The threat about Tony had shaken her deeply.Realizing her fear, Gerald pulled her tightly into his arms."We’re smarter than he is. And we’re together. He won’t be able to destroy us, I promise you," he vowed firmly.Myriam found refuge against Gerald’s chest and suddenly realized they were still in someone else’s office."Sign the papers—it’s a good deal," she said, trying to smile. He said nothing. He simply signed the purchase agreement, left a check as a down payment, and let his lawyers handle the rest."A pleasure doing business with you, Miss Bennett. Gerald is a lucky man to have you by his side," Raymond remarked with a venomous smile.Myriam responded with one of her own. "Are you lucky, chocolate cupcake?" she teased, curling her lips.Gerald huffed,

Bianca tried to lunge at Myriam, but Gerald stepped in firmly.—Don’t you dare touch her —he roared, glaring at her with deep contempt—. Get out of this house and never come back, because if you do, I’ll throw you out myself. His furrowed brow only sharpened the steel in his voice.Helena’s eyes widened at her son’s words. She swallowed hard, trying to mask the sting of Bianca’s insults. What truly surprised her, though, was seeing Myriam defend her… and Gerald standing by her side.Bianca spun on her heel and stormed out of the mansion like a woman possessed.—I swear I’ll get my revenge! —she growled before vanishing.Myriam approached Helena and hugged her tenderly.—Don’t pay her any mind. You are a strong woman, and that’s all the more reason to walk again and prove to yourself just how brave you are.Moved, Helena leaned on her future daughter-in-law’s shoulder.—You’re such a good girl —she whispered—. Don’t worry about me… tell me, how are you? —she asked, pulling back just en

The next day, Bianca showed up at her sister Isis’s house with a wide smile on her lips, clutching one of the city’s most renowned newspapers in her hands.“Did you read what they published about your dear son’s engagement?” she sneered as she barged onto the terrace where Isis was having breakfast. The woman chewed a piece of papaya, swallowed it calmly, and then arched a brow.“I haven’t had time to read anything. What happened?” she asked. “I imagine that idiot Gerald, as always, ruined it.” She scoffed and sipped her coffee.Bianca grinned broadly.“No, it was better than that.” She placed the front page on the table before Isis. “Gerald Lennox’s mother-in-law turned out to be an alcoholic. She insulted her own daughter right in the middle of the ceremony.” She cackled before sitting down. “Oh, how I wish I’d been there to see Myriam’s face.” She muttered, stabbing a piece of watermelon with her fork. “I hate her… she thinks she owns Lennox Industries. And if you don’t help me sto

A chill ran down Myriam’s spine. She froze, just as she used to when Silvia punished her as a child. Slowly, she turned and looked at her.“Mom…” she stammered. At once, she caught that familiar look of reproach on her face, the hand planted on her hip, the frown etched on her forehead.“If it weren’t for your fiancé, you wouldn’t even have told me you were marrying again. You haven’t even sent me pictures of my grandson,” she accused, pointing a finger at her.Myriam glanced around and noticed the guests’ attention was fixed on them.“I’ve been through a lot, but this isn’t the time for reproaches,” she pleaded. “Let me introduce you to my friend Elsa. Stay with her for a few minutes.” She spun quickly and hurried to Gerald, who was talking with some partners.“What’s wrong?” he asked when he saw her pale, shaken face.“Thank you for your revenge,” she muttered. “Why did you bring her?” Her fists clenched.Guests began to murmur, picking up on her tone.“I thought you’d be glad to se
