Isis laughed out loud at the news.

“I can’t wait to see Gerald’s face when you do it,” she said, tilting her lips in amusement. “You should teach him a lesson. Anyway, you may go now.”

Myriam smiled.

“Shall I help you with the little one?”

Isis shook her head.

“I don’t want you making any effort. I don’t want problems,” she explained. “I’ll ask one of the maids to take him to his room. Good afternoon.”

“Rest well,” Myriam said before leaving.

With the advance payment Isis had given her, Myriam decided to buy herself a dress. None of her old ones fit anymore and, if she had to face Gerald Lennox, she would do it on equal footing. She wasn’t about to let that stone-hearted man keep humiliating her.

She went to the mall and spotted a red dress—beautiful and elegant, the perfect balance of sober and refined. Besides, she thought that with a few adjustments, after giving birth she could wear it again.
