"But then again, I see no future for him if he chooses to stay in this city. It’s not as though he can rejoin high society, and I don’t think someone like him would be fine living as a normal person with his identity hidden forever." Isaac frowned.

Amelia had to snort.

Caleb had done his best to cosplay a regular person for all those years. Plastic surgery was always a viable option, and while Caleb might not be open to it, if it was between changing the shape of his nose and spending a decade in a grimy prison, Amelia had no doubt he would change his appearance in a heartbeat.

If push comes to shove, she had no doubt his father would fake an identity for him to stay hidden. Whether or not it would be successful was another story altogether.

Matteo gripped his phone tightly and threw it against the bed, causing it to spring up due to the mattress. It made him feel better, but only slightly.

"Amelia, I need to arrange a bodyguard for you," Matteo said seriously. "Now that Caleb is on t

Months later..."Stop walking back and forth like that," Aiden chided with a scowl. "You’re going to wear a hole straight through to the foundation of the building."Matteo scowled as he tossed Aiden a glare. "And you’re any better?" he said, looking pointedly at the pile of torn papers that surrounded Aiden, papers he had been picking at for the last couple of hours to relieve his anxiety.Aiden merely scoffed as he tossed the remaining paper bits in his hand onto the ground, gaining the disdainful glares of the nurses who passed by. However, none of them dared to say anything to this pair of brothers. They had been guarding the doors to the hospital’s delivery room for the last seven hours. With each hour that passed, the duo only turned more and more frantic. Matteo’s pacing increased in speed, while Aiden had gone through enough papers that he could match the efficiency of an office paper shredder.Amelia wasn’t supposed to give birth so early― she had two more weeks left before h

Amelia watched in awe from her balcony window as a set of fireworks rushed through the clouds, exploding into a thousand shimmers in the night sky. Multiple colors were set off — blue, red, gold, purple — and each one was more dazzling than the next."That is beautiful," Amelia gasped in awe, and when she turned around to look at Matteo, she let out a small gasp by what she was greeted by instead."I knew I smelled the scent of roses!" she said as she walked further into the hotel room they had booked. The wedding celebrations with the guests had just ended but that didn’t mean that the day of festivities would too.Matteo had made sure to pry Amelia out of the hands of those pesky relatives and friends all so he could have her rest early. There were one too many of them forcing drinks upon her in the name of celebration, and Matteo didn’t want to tire her out that way.Instead, he had decided to set up the hotel room they were sharing for the night, adorning each and every corner wit

"Don’t worry too much," Cherry said. "Second time’s the charm, right?""Third," Amelia corrected. "Third time’s the charm.""Oh right, sorry," Cherry said sheepishly. "I forgot that you were once married to that bitch ass."Amelia laughed, shifting her feet. She was grateful that she had the foresight to switch out her original heels for something less taxing. "I try to forget it daily, but it’s difficult."And wasn’t that the truth? Caleb’s second attempt at kidnapping had scared her enough that she had woken up in a cold sweat more than once.Sometimes, she dreamt that Matteo did not arrive in time, and she was successfully kidnapped to another land. Sometimes, she dreamt that she had been tossed into the ocean with her father, the both of them drowning in excruciating slowness.Sometimes, she dreamt that she was still married to Caleb, and he drowned her in a fish tank. The dreams didn’t make much sense, but all of them featured Caleb hurting her in some shape or form. The doctors

Aiden was indeed at Serafield. But Matteo and Amelia could never have guessed that for all their worry, Aiden was apparently sitting nicely in a bar, trying to chat up a lady bartender.Matteo’s eyebrow twitched. Thankfully, Amelia had stayed home, or else Aiden might find himself with another injury. The police officer wanted to call for him, but Matteo waved him away. He would drag his brother back on his own. As he walked closer, he could hear the sound of Aiden’s voice as he gestured with his hands."So I went and punched him straight in the face. You would not believe the crack that echoed, it was sickening―""Uh uh," the bartender said, sounding remarkably unimpressed by his brother’s words. Her hands were busy cleaning the glasses. "And I’m sure the other guy cried like a baby? You told me that yesterday when you were cleaning the floor.""He was cleaning the floor?" Matteo interrupted, puzzled.Aiden’s head whirled around immediately when he heard the familiar voice, nearly fa

Will Walton marched straight for Amelia, his hand raised to hit her the second he got close enough."You worthless bitch!" he screamed, quickly drawing the attention of everyone else present in the hallway. However, he didn’t have the chance to land the hit he intended. The two police officers stepped forward without Amelia needing to even dodge. One of them used their own body to block Amelia from harm while the other caught Will Walton’s arm in midair, holding it in place."Please mind yourself, Mr. Walton," the police officer said. "Need I remind you that intending physical harm upon another is a crime?"Will Walton merely glared at the cops before roughly shrugging his arm out of the officer’s grip. He turned his fierce gaze back onto Amelia, anger brimming in his eyes and venom coating his words."What have you done to my son?!" he roared. Then, he shifted his anger from Amelia to the police officers. "You! You guys have already arrested my wife. Now you’re going after my son too

Matteo’s brows furrowed, and a brief look of dismay entered his eyes."What do you mean?" Amelia asked in horror. "He fell into the water― if Caleb was found, then Aiden must still be somewhere around there! We didn’t see him surface.""Miss Kentwood..." The coast guard looked apologetically at her.Amelia’s blood ran cold. "What are you not telling me?" she demanded weakly."The winds are strong tonight. There’s a chance the currents might have swept him away," the coast guard replied.Amelia immediately felt faint."But rest assured, we will have men posted around to search all ’round the clock. If there are any developments, we will inform you.""Please do," Matteo said from behind her, though in Amelia’s ears, his voice sounded fuzzy. There was a strange ringing in the air that quickly dulled out his words. Amelia stared at her feet, her vision swaying along with the gentle rocking of the boat. She could faintly make out the purr of the engine in the background, but it did nothing
