Lola’s POV

The new Mr. and Mrs. Thompson’s villa was not something difficult to find. Its towering design and polished exterior almost announced itself on the street, standing out among the other houses. And just like I had found it before, I arrived here again, but this time with a different purpose.

Did I pull to a stop at the front of their gate?

No. That would have been foolish, and foolishness was not in my nature. I was here for something bigger than just reckless actions. I parked three houses away, still within sight but not too close to raise suspicion.

It was the same street Eunice had lived on before her marriage to Adrian Thompson. The thought alone reminded me of how much her life had changed, and yet here I was, circling back into it, determined to tear it apart piece by piece.

As the car’s engine went quiet, I turned to the back seat. My voice was sharp, commanding, without hesitation. “Now, if you want to live, child, you better do as I say.”

The boy froze, his small c

Detective Marcus Hales POV“Knock Knock!” I knocked on the door and also pressed gently on the doorbell, making sure that whether they were near the door or not, they would hear the sound echo inside the house. The objective was simple, or so I thought. I never expected that his daughter would be here. I didn’t even know he had a daughter. But when I saw them all, my plan hardened. There couldn’t be any witnesses. No one could describe me to the police after this crime. I couldn’t afford to leave a single trace behind. I had prepared myself for this moment.Take everyone down, leave no evidence, and disappear. That was the plan. And it made sense. The gun I carried wasn’t even licensed in my name. It was registered to a criminal I had once sent to prison. Using his name as a shield made it easier for me to vanish into the shadows. The door creaked open. It was his wife. She greeted me with the casual smile of someone expecting a neighbor, a visitor perhaps. But when she realized who

Detective Marcus Hales POV“You are fired! We can’t have people like you in the police force. Unbuckle your stars and submit your weapons at the counter. You are hereby fired from the police force,” he said firmly as he rose from the edge of the chair and then sank back into his seat behind the desk.My heart raced, pounding heavily. I couldn’t understand why he had suddenly decided to fire me. Was this really happening? After all the years I had given to the force, was this the way it ended? Was it because I was doing my job too well, because I went further than others dared?I drew in a deep breath, struggling to keep my voice steady. “Why, sir? Why are you firing me?”Lieutenant Willis didn’t answer immediately. Instead, he turned the desktop screen toward me. “See for yourself,” he muttered. And I saw it.My blood ran cold. The footage showed me leaning forward during the interrogation, knife in hand, preparing to thrust it toward Eunice Morgan’s eyes. Before the act was carried o

Adrian’s POV John told us everything that happened, and the room fell silent. Our eyes opened widely in shock as each detail sank in. How could someone do this to a child? How could she have the coldness to drive him all the way from Mexico to Green City, step into our villa uninvited, sit him in the bathtub, and then twist his words until it appeared as though Eunice Morgan was behind it all?Every second of his confession had been caught on video. Every broken sentence, every tremble in his voice was recorded. We had undeniable proof. That was why, the moment we stepped out of the police station, the weight of our next move pressed heavily on our shoulders. It was not that we couldn’t hand the police the evidence we had just secured, we could. But how could we trust them to handle it when they were already blinded by emotions and bias? They had already chosen their side before even looking deeper into the matter. The officers firmly believed that Eunice was guilty. They clung to th

Lola’s POVWe sat at the outside part of the restaurant, Diana’s Diana’s as they rightly called it, a place where people came to laugh and eat as though the world was free of troubles. For me, it was the perfect spot to carry out a conversation that could shift the direction of everything.I had already approached Detective Hales once before. At first, he looked at me with suspicion, his eyes narrowing as though he wanted to confront me, order me to leave his face immediately, or worse, lock me up without a second thought. But then something unexpected happened.I did not know exactly what he saw in me, but I knew he calmed down. Perhaps he noticed that I was not financially buoyant, not as independent as Eunice Morgan, the very woman who always carried herself with confidence and strength. Maybe that softened his judgment. After all, even the homeless child had pointed out that Detective Hales despised women who were independent, women who carried power and did not bend easily. Coul

Eunice’s POVHe was about to sink the knife into my eyes when the room door suddenly barged open with a loud crash. The sound echoed so violently that it startled both of us.“Stop that right now!!” The commanding voice belonged to Brette, our lawyer, standing right at the entrance. His expression was sharp, his posture rigid, and his hand gripped Adrian’s arm firmly, almost as if restraining him from lunging forward. Adrian’s face was flushed with rage, his entire body tense like a lion about to tear apart its prey. Brette’s grip wasn’t casual. It was deliberate, a silent warning that Adrian shouldn’t let his anger explode in front of the law.Up until that moment, Detective Marcus Hales had locked the door and cornered me in this suffocating room, his words sharp, his questions twisting into accusations, and his presence designed to intimidate. He wasn’t interrogating me in search of truth. He was forcing words into my mouth, shaping lies he wanted me to confess. And when he raised

Adrian’s POV“No, you are not going to jail. But you will if you keep lying against Eunice Morgan.” Brette’s voice sounded firm and sure, his tone carrying the weight of authority. He leaned forward slightly, eyes fixed on the boy. He looked into the boy’s eyes without blinking, as though he wanted to pierce through every layer of fear and lies.“What is your name, and how old are you?” he asked in a calm but demanding tone.“John, 14 years,” the boy replied, his voice small, almost fading, as he stood pressed against the wall.“Listen to me John. I am an attorney for Eunice Morgan and her husband, who is sitting right here.” Brette pointed at me firmly, making sure John understood this was not a bluff.“We are here to help you. We know you lied against Eunice Morgan. And we know you didn’t come up with this on your own. Someone made you say and do all of this. If you help us catch the person, trust me, you will be safe.”John smirked faintly when he heard us, a strange reaction that
