Sylvester’s POV.

Her legs wrapped around my waist with a kind of urgency I hadn’t expected. I could feel the heat from her body, and it made my thoughts stumble.

Natasha wasn’t just flirting anymore—she was pulling me in, asking without words and daring me to do something I wasn’t sure I should.

The room was warm, her breath even warmer against my neck. Her fingers clutched at the back of my shirt, and her body pressed up against mine with reckless abandon. It was the alcohol—I knew that. And still, it was hard to ignore the part of me that wanted to give in.

Her voice came out low, unsteady. “You don’t have to hold back, you know. I want you.”

I swallowed, hard.

“No,” I said, not even recognizing my own voice. “You’re drunk.”

She looked up at me with hazy eyes, but there was a quiet clarity in her tone when she whispered, “I missed you.”

“I want you to look at me like I mean everything to you. I know we didn't start off on a good note but I have come to love you helplessly and I wis

Natasha’s POV.The pounding in my head was the first thing I noticed when I woke up. A dull ache that throbbed behind my eyes, making me wince as I sat up slowly. The curtains were only slightly parted, but even the soft morning light made me want to crawl back under the sheets. My mouth was dry, and my body felt heavy. It took me a few seconds to realize I was still in last night’s clothes. As I pushed the blanket off and swung my legs down, pieces of the night came back in slow, hazy waves. Dinner… too much wine… Sylvester helping me upstairs.I dragged myself to the bathroom, turned on the water, and let it run while I leaned against the sink. I caught a glimpse of my reflection and paused. There it was. A small, purplish mark just above my collarbone. Then another, closer to my neck.My breath caught in my throat. My fingers moved instinctively to touch the spot, and like a jolt, everything came rushing back. The way I had kissed him. The way he had kissed me back. The feel of his

Sylvester’s POV.I hadn’t planned for things to be awkward between us, but from the moment she walked into the dining room, I could tell something felt off. Natasha smiled when she saw me, but it didn’t quite reach her eyes. Her movements were careful, her voice a little too polite, like she was holding back.I came home earlier than expected. I wanted to see her. That kiss before I left had stayed with me more than I cared to admit, and even though I didn’t fully know where we stood, I had hoped we could talk, maybe start figuring it out.“Let's eat dinner together,” I said, breaking the silence and she nodded.“I will have that fixed right away. Let me get changed,” she replied, turning to head upstairs immediately but I grabbed her hand, stopping her from leaving.“You just got back from work. You need to relax, let the maids handle that,” I said, still holding onto her.“Okay,” she murmured. Her eyes looked down on my arm that was holding hers. Then I let go of her hand, an awkwar

Natasha’s POV.The hospital was quieter than usual, the kind of quietness that settled only during the early afternoon hours. Most of the patients were either asleep or occupied with visitors, and the corridors had a rare hush to them. I stood at the sink in the supply room, rinsing surgical tools with care. This was supposed to be a shared task—Amara and I had been assigned to handle it together. But she had vanished, conveniently, after our rounds. Not that I expected anything different.I had grown used to the way she slipped away whenever it suited her, leaving behind just enough work to make me look overwhelmed. Then later when it was done, she would come claiming she was the one who did the job or directed me on how to, taking all the credit and every time it turned out to work for her. I guessed it was because it was her family’s hospital. I didn’t mind her not being around to join me in what was assigned to both of us. I loved the peace that came with not having her around a

Natasha’s POV.I stood in the center of the room, the tabloid still in my hand, eyes lingering on the photograph of me pushing a grocery cart. It seemed so ridiculous that something so normal—so human—could turn into a headline that questioned the financial stability of one of the most powerful families in the country.Sylvester’s grandfather was seated in an armchair by the window. The afternoon sun cast long stripes across the floor, and the ticking of the old grandfather clock filled the silence between us.“I’m sorry,” I said quietly, placing the tabloid gently on the table like it was something fragile. He didn’t respond right away. Instead, he sipped his tea, watching me over the rim of the cup. His eyes weren’t angry, just tired in a way that came from years of dealing with the world’s nonsense.“You should leave things like that to the staff,” he said after a moment, not harshly, but with that tone people use when they’re reminding a child not to run with scissors. “People wa

Natasha’s POV.It had been a week since Sylvester kissed me. One full week. And yet, the memory lived on in my mind like it had happened just this morning. I had tried distracting myself with books, music, and even redecorating one of the guest rooms. But it didn’t help. No matter how many times I told myself not to overthink it, my mind kept going back to that moment—his warmth, the way his hand lingered on my cheek, and the silence that followed. It wasn’t just the kiss that haunted me, it was the way he looked at me right after, like he wanted to say something but stopped himself. He had left the next morning for a business trip, and though I tried to convince myself it was for the best, his absence echoed through the mansion. I had grown used to hearing his footsteps in the hallway, the occasional knock on my door, or even just his voice somewhere in the distance. Now, the house felt too still. When the women’s club invited me to lunch that afternoon, I almost declined. I wasn’t
