Third Person POV:

Sophie's feet tapped the floor in a nervous rhythm.

Even the staff cast her worried glances.

This was supposed to be her home but she felt like a stranger as she waited for her dreadful mother to make her way downstairs to where she was seated.

It had only been fifteen minutes but it felt like forever. Fifteen long minutes of hearing nothing but the large wall clock in the living room tick meticulously.

Even her phone seemed to lack interest which was very unlike her.

Maya's call jolted me out of my nighttime skincare routine."Is something wrong?" I asked immediately. It was unlike her to call at this time. "There's something I need to tell you. Don't freak out." "Go ahead.""I just sent it to you.""I thought you said-" She hung up before I could finish the sentence."you were going to tell me." I still completed, still unsuspecting about what the problem was. "Oh dear God." I gasped. The news leaked? How come? This was supposed to be under wraps for the good of everyone. I felt a headache coming on and a bit of nauseousness.Slowly, I sat on my bed, thinking of ways to salvage the situation. The more I tried to keep it all in check, the more it spiralled. I was losing my mind. This had to be Veronica. She had to be the one behind this. Our stock prices were dwindling now that the public knew I was suspended as CEO. This wasn't even about the humiliation. It was that it was detrimental to the company."Fuck!" I screamed. Why did this hav

Her avoidance was understandable. But it hurt nonetheless.I didn't know how to explain what came over me. All I knew however was that I wanted to kiss her nonstop. I wanted to give her some toe-curling experiences and nerve-wracking orgasms. My cock twitched as I thought about it.But now it seemed like I had gone ahead to make things worse. My hand hovered over her door knob. I wanted to speak to her but I didn't know the right words to say.I wanted to let her know that I had been feeling her for a very long time but I didn't know how to put the words to tell her. I didn't mean to scare her away."Sir," I turned at the sound of one of the staff. "Mr Andre is here to see you.""Andre?" I wasn't sure I heard correctly. What the heck was he doing in Seattle?I ran down the stairs as fast as I could. My blonde blue-eyed friend was of course standing there, hands akimbo with his back to me, staring up at one of the paintings Sloane moved in with."This is new," he remarked, turning

"You didn't join me for breakfast."Zane was at my door the next morning. After the epiphany I got the night before, I figured it was best to avoid situations that kept me in close proximity with him. "I slept in."His brows went up. "You slept in?""I just said that, Zane." "That's unlike you, Sloane." He emphasized on my name, matching my tone. I shrugged. "People change. I don't have to go to work for the time being."He seemed to ponder on my words for a moment before speaking again. "Okay then. I'm off to work.""Have a great day." I said and shut the door.I didn't join him for dinner either. And for the next couple of days, that was the pattern. I always had the perfect excuse to not be in the same room as him. I doubted he believed me but somehow he didn't probe. He just chose to let me be. And even though that was what I thought I wanted, it hurt a bit that he didn't care that much to know what was wrong with me."What exactly do you want, Sloane?" I asked myself in t

I wanted him to kiss me then and there. I waited for it to come but it never did. That was mostly because Henry, his assistant called to remind him that he had a meeting he was late for. So we pulled apart and for the rest of the day while I restlessly lounged at home, I felt his nose on mine and how his breath fanned my face. I heard his voice reverberating in my ears every time I thought of the words he said. Zane wanted to be the man who eased my burden. He wanted to be there for me no matter what. No one had ever said such words to me. They thawed my heart that was infamously believed to be cold, hard as stone and possibly nonexistent.I didn't want to believe I was any of those things aforementioned. I just wasn't the most affectionate person in the room. But with Zane, the same Zane Della-Ross whom I believed was the grumpy domineering older brother of my long term boyfriend... He was the same person who was saying the things I had waited to hear forever. I was in disbelief

I hated seeing her like this. I hated how helpless I felt when I was supposed to stand up for her. But then I knew this was going to be the outcome. I tried to warn her. This was unfortunately not my first rodeo with situations like these.I really wished she could understand. "Stop the car."My gaze snapped up to her face. "I'll find my way home." She said, looking straight ahead and talking to me like I was not seated next to her. "Babe,"She shook her head vehemently, still not looking in my direction. "Sloane. That's my name. Call me that." The car slowed down and she tried to get down. "Lock the doors." I told the driver. His eyes darted between us. I glared harder at him."In fact, excuse us."He got down in a hurry, obviously not wanting to take the heat of our argument. Then I locked the doors. "What do you think you're doing?" Sloane questioned, trying to loosen my grip. Of course it was no use."Zane, let me go." She gritted out."Not until we talk things out.""I do

I felt my confidence falter when I walked into that conference room.Something was off. I wondered if Zane could feel it too."Good morning everyone," I said to their hearing over their loud conversations.Zane muttered his salute as well as he pulled out my chair for me and let me sit.Veronica was seated there in a bright red outfit that made her the center of attention. She obviously thought it was her day to shine. They responded neutrally. Or at least almost all of them did."Good morning Mr and Mrs Della-Ross." Gregory had a sort of mocking grin that made me feel very uneasy.Zane and I exchanged glances. He could feel it too. Maybe I had celebrated my victory way too soon. The secretary read out the minutes from the previous meeting of this sort. We listened with rapt attention like we didn't already know what it entailed. Then finally, the meeting properly begin. It seemed like they were dragging over the point with several gibberish and were about to say something false

The post went live at 11:58 PM, and I watched the engagement metrics climb from my office with a drink in my hand that I sipped from slowly.Numbers didn't lie. Before I could keep track, the likes hit ten thousand in minutes and comments flooded in faster than the platform could organize them. Of

"You can't just move me into your house without asking."Zane didn't even glance at me as the car pulled up to the gates. The estate sprawled beyond them like something out of a fever dream. It had sharp angles, floor-to-ceiling glass. And it was perched on a cliff that overlooked the city like it

We are getting married tomorrow. Two days. That was all it had taken from the signed contract to the scheduled wedding. I had expected Sloane Reed to take the full three days, maybe longer. Instead she had called Patrick from the café, confirmed the date before she even stood up from the table, and

He walked in and every head in the café turned. I had already been seated for ten minutes, black coffee in front of me that I hadn't touched, the file on the table within reach. I had chosen the corner table deliberately. Away from the windows, away from anyone who might recognize either of us and
