"Everything will be fine, Ashton."

Hannah smiled and led the doctor back to the sidewalk. It was better to ignore what Ashton had just said because it could haunt her in the future.

People change, and if Hannah put her hopes in Ashton, who knew if he would disappoint her even more than Alden had?

"Can I stop by your workplace later?" Ashton asked out of the blue. "It wouldn't hurt to have lunch together, would it?"

Hannah nodded. "Sure, I don't mind."

Ashton tightened his grip on her hand, feeling more at ease. Even though he wasn't ready to accept that he wouldn't say good morning to her or see her first thing every day, he would find another way to meet Hannah.

"Before you go, we must throw you a going-away party."

A warm cup of tea rested in Hannah's hand as she stared at her reflection in the water. Her tired face was clearly visible, with dark circles under her eyes.Ashton sat across from Hannah in silence, allowing Hannah to release her emotions until she calmed down. Seeing her cry broke Ashton to pieces, yet there was something heartbreakingly beautiful about the way she cried.Hannah cried softly, so fragile that it made Ashton want to hold her forever. He wanted to protect her from anyone who would dare hurt her."Are you okay?" Ashton asked carefully.Hannah gave a weak nod. "I think so.""Who do I need to take care of so they don't bother you again?""What?" Hannah stared at him."I don't want to see you crying," Ashton admitted. "It makes me sad."A sigh escaped Hannah's lips. "I'm sorry.""Why should you apologize?""It's just..." Hannah hesitated. "I don't even know what's going on, but suddenly, everyone's acc

"Hannah," Kimberly called as she entered the office. "Can we talk for a minute?"Hannah, who was busy checking her remaining work, nodded."In Mrs. Victoria's office," Kimberly added.Hannah furrowed her brow. "Sure."Although she found it odd that Victoria would suddenly want to see her, Hannah didn't suspect a thing. She followed Kimberly into Victoria's office. But as they walked down the corridor, the employees they passed began whispering to each other.Hannah felt uneasy. What was going on?Kimberly knocked on Victoria's office door, and they heard a voice from inside telling them to enter. Stepping inside, Hannah looked around—it was her first time in Victoria's office. The room was elegant and cozy, with a large window on the grounds. Victoria gestured for her to sit on the sofa, then picked up a report from her desk before taking a seat herself."Hannah, I was just talking to Kimberly about last week's financial report

A few months had passed without news of Ashton, and Hannah longed for the doctor. But she forced herself to push those feelings aside and focus on her work. Besides, she was now in her seventh month of pregnancy, and fatigue and sleepiness were becoming more common. The rumors about the hospital had finally died down, making Hannah's work much more comfortable. She was grateful for the peaceful environment she had longed for. Even Candace and Kimberly weren't too nosy, which made their working atmosphere pleasant—at least for Hannah."Hannah, are you coming to the office event this Sunday?" Candace asked.A gathering was planned, but attendance wasn't mandatory. Hannah wanted to rest that day after church and lie down all day.She shook her head. "I don't think so, Candace. That won't be a problem, will it?""Well, it's fine. But Kimberly won't be coming either because she's on vacation. So that means I'll be the only one from our department?

  • Marrying the Chairman in the Wheelchair   125. The Key to His Heart

Ashton picked Hannah up again at Elizabeth's apartment the following day. She actually wanted to refuse, but she needed to know what he meant last night when he gave her the key as a farewell party gift. When she got into the car, Hannah rummaged through her bag, pulled out the black box, and immediately handed it to Ashton."I don't want the key," Hannah said bluntly.Ashton glanced at her briefly before flashing a small smile. "And what conclusion did you come to that made you refuse it?""What kind of key is it? I don't want to keep it if there's something bad behind it." Hannah started to panic. "Take it!"But Ashton didn't take the key. He pretended to concentrate on driving, trying to hide his laughter and act as casually as possible."Ashton! You hear me, right?""I hear you, Hannah," he nodded. "But can you tell me what bad thing you're imagining?"Hannah exhaled sharply. "Maybe a corpse, or maybe some kind of drug. You

Hannah deeply breathed and answered, "Yes, that's me.""Oh my gosh." Candace gasped. "Is it true that you stole Dr. Ashton from Gloria Camilton?"Hannah's eyebrows furrowed. "How could I? I just work at his clinic. It's all just a misunderstanding."Candace and Kimberly realized Hannah was pregnant. She had to have a husband, so she couldn't have an affair with Ashton."But there's been gossip for a long time that Gloria is obsessed with Dr. Ashton—she's a psycho," Kimberly commented.Hannah shrugged. "I don't know anything about that," she denied. "But after this, I hope there won't be any more misunderstandings.""Thank God you're free of her, Hannah."Hannah nodded. "Yes, I'm lucky Victoria helped me."The conversation about the incident faded and turned to work. Hannah followed Candace and Kimberly's instructions—it wasn't difficult at all....During lunch, Hannah joined the rest of the staff, int
