It was a simple dinner at a small diner near Elizabeth's apartment. Hannah loved the food—it was homey and reminded her of her father. But Ashton was unusually quiet throughout the meal as if something was on his mind.

No.Hannah didn't want to dwell too long on Ashton's words or sweet gestures—they distracted her from her work all day. Unintentionally, she found herself thinking about Ashton more and more, even during her working hours. It was annoying. Hannah felt like she had too many distractions, and Ashton consumed her thoughts the most. How long could she avoid him when he showed her so much attention and kindness?"Looks like there's something on your mind. Is it that doctor again?" Kimberly teased, nudging Hannah's arm.Hannah's face immediately turned red—there was no point denying it in front of her two colleagues. During Henry's first three months, Hannah received much attention from Ashton. Without realizing it, Ashton had taken on the role of a father to Henry. He made time to stop by Elizabeth's house every day, which only convinced Elizabeth that the doctor had feelings for Hannah.Hannah, however, always dismissed Elizabeth's assumptions, insisting that Ashton's attention was nothing more than that of a friend. But in her heart, Hannah knew what Ashton felt for her. She just wanted to be blind to it because Hannah was afraid to move on and take a chance. When Henry turned four months old, Hannah had to return to work. Victoria had given her as much maternity leave as needed, allowing her to return whenever she was ready. But Hannah wasn't about to take advantage of her generosity.Besides, Victoria had several big projects coming up at the hospital, and she needed Hannah's help. Since Victoria had promoted her to be her right-hand woman, Hannah had spent her v

The first thing Hannah saw was a blurry image of Ashton, a faint smile forming on her lips."Ashton," she whispered.Ashton, who had been at Hannah's side the entire time, immediately grabbed her hand, his eyes glistening with emotion. Seeing Hannah wake up again was the moment he had been waiting for."Hey, Hannah. I'm here," Ashton replied."My head...""Don't push yourself. Just take your time."Hannah blinked a few times, realizing she was in a hospital. Then, the memory of being in Elizabeth's apartment came back. Her hand instinctively went to her now almost flat stomach."My baby!" Hannah's hoarse voice cried out.Ashton held her back as she tried to sit up, a small smile appearing on his face."Your baby is fine. He's sleeping right now, and he looks just like you.""What?" Hannah stared at Ashton in disbelief. "Is it a boy or a girl?""A boy," Ashton replied.Tears streamed down Hannah's che

Alden jerked awake, half shouting, "Hannah!"It took him a split second to realize that what he had just experienced was a dream. The dream wasn't frightening, but it was disturbing. In the dream, Alden saw Hannah holding a baby beside another man. He tried calling her, but Hannah didn't hear him. And when Alden tried to run after her, his feet felt unbearably heavy."It's only a dream," he whispered.Alden got out of bed and checked his phone. It was 5 a.m. Sarah had sent a few new messages not long ago. She said she was ready and waiting for him.A long sigh escaped Alden's lips. He just wanted to stay home, but a promise was a promise. He had to meet Sarah. He quickly went to the bathroom, freshened up, and changed into clean clothes. Then he grabbed his duffel bag, packed a few sets of clothes, and finished getting ready. Even though Victoria explained that Hannah was not necessarily guilty and that placing her on leave was just a procedure, Hannah could not feel at ease. Fear and confusion consumed her as she wondered how the money could have gone missing. She wanted to talk to Candace, but her coworker wouldn't return her messages or phone calls."Hannah, don't stay like this. Victoria is looking into this," Elizabeth said.Hannah, sitting across from Elizabeth, just nodded. Her face looked pale. She hadn't slept well last night and had skipped breakfast this morning.Even now, she had no appetite, and Elizabeth had to force her to eat lunch.Seeing Hannah so restless worried Elizabeth. Especially since Hannah had trouble eating and often vomited after meals."Hannah? Are you okay, dear?" Elizabeth asked.Hannah forced herself to take a bite from the spoon. "Yes, I'm fine."Elizabeth looked at her uncertainly. "If you're not feeling well, take
