Gala Dinner.
It's where the rich gather, people with billion-dollar businesses, and definitely some arrogant faces. That was Hannah's first impression as she walked into the grand building, a luxurious restaurant well known in Summerhill.
Hannah had never imagined she would ever set foot there, let alone attend an exclusive gala dinner. All eyes were on Alden as he entered with Hannah, and she felt an extraordinary impact there as well.
The greeter immediately escorted them to a table in the back, near the restroom.
Hannah sat down next to Alden and tried to hide the tension on her face.
"Do you know why we're sitting here?" Alden asked, smiling at Hannah.
Of course, Hannah understood enough about RSVP invitations and such. Those sitting in the back were reserves or people who weren't that important. It might have been better not to come at all than to be embarrassed.
But whatever was in Alden's mind about coming to a gala dinner, he
“I hope your husband can keep his distance from Sarah,” Kenneth said suddenly.Hannah raised her eyebrows. What did that mean?“My husband owns Goldtime. How can he keep his distance when your sister suddenly becomes Giantic's representative? That’s absurd.” Hannah replied bluntly.“You know about their past, right?”Hannah nodded. “I know very well. In fact, your sister left Alden, but I don’t want to dwell on the past. Alden is now healed and healthy, and has no business with Sarah except for work.”Hannah's voice trembled with restrained anger because she couldn't accept the implication that Alden was the one pursuing Sarah. Alden had been professional, while it was Sarah who kept bringing up their past.“It’s not that simple, Hannah,” Kenneth said.“What do you mean?”“My sister suffered severe mental trauma after the accident. I
Just as Hannah was about to leave the room, Alden hurried in, looking anxious and immediately pulling her into a hug.“Sweetheart, I heard the car that brought you here was hit earlier. Are you okay? Why didn't you call me right away?” Alden asked. That incident happened an hour ago, and Hannah didn't think it was important to tell Alden. It seemed either the staff or Kenneth had already spoken to her husband.“Kenneth came to the office and told me everything,” Alden added.Oh, so it was Kenneth.“I'm fine. It was just a minor accident.”“I was about to get angry, but Kenneth apologized and invited us to lunch.”“And you agreed?”“He insisted.”Hannah showed a reluctant expression. At the gala dinner, Kenneth’s face was stiff, cold, and unfriendly. Hannah wondered why Kenneth wanted to have lunch. Did he have an ulterior motive?“
The next morning, Hannah acted as if everything was normal, or maybe she was just pretending. Because Alden hadn't slept in their room last night, but Hannah didn't want to make a fuss about something so trivial. They still had a lot to learn about each other, and arguing over the past would only make things worse. Hannah thought if she started a fight, Alden might reminisce about his time with Sarah.“Hey, are you feeling better?” Alden asked.Hannah smiled. “Yes, darling. I'm sorry for my behavior last night.”Ego.That’s what Hannah tried to set aside. It wasn't that she was pretending to be a sweet, obedient woman, but she didn't want to clash egos with Alden. Hannah knew Alden had a very high ego himself.“No, sweetheart. I understand how you feel,” Alden hugged Hannah immediately. “I'm the one who should apologize.”“I trust you to be professional. Even though I feel a
Alden came home late and entered Hannah's room. Seeing that Hannah was still awake, he immediately approached his wife. Alden looked guilty for making Hannah wait.“Sweetheart, you're still up?” Alden greeted as he planted a kiss on Hannah's forehead.“You're home so late.”Alden hadn't sent any messages, making Hannah worry.“Sorry, there was a meeting that had to be finished tonight.” Alden loosened his tie, looking exhausted. “I sent a message to Edward because he called me. So I asked him to pass it on.”“Oh, okay. That's fine.” Hannah just nodded.“Is something wrong, Hannah? Are you mad at me?”Hannah weakly shook her head. Why should she be mad at Alden? This was the risk of marrying a businessman, there would definitely be a lot of time consumed. After Alden recovered, he had responsibilities on his shoulders, especially after Maxim's passing. The c
Hannah landed on the bed after a full day of work and meetings, feeling completely exhausted. She glanced at her phone, which read 7 PM, and Alden still hadn’t come home. He hadn't even sent a message.Alden was undoubtedly very busy, especially after signing the partnership deal with Giantic. There would be adjustments to be made, and that required extra hours at the office. Still, Hannah couldn't help but worry.Feeling uneasy, Hannah left the bedroom and walked wearily to the dining room. She wanted to skip dinner, but she felt bad knowing the maid had prepared everything since earlier in the afternoon. As she turned the corner in the corridor, she was startled, nearly bumping into Edward.“Mrs. Hannah, my apologies,” Edward said.“It’s okay. I was walking too fast.”“I wanted to deliver a message from the Young Master. He will be home late and won’t be able to join for dinner.”
Kenneth glanced at Sarah as they entered the house, noticing her pale and anxious expression. As Sarah tried to retreat to her room, Kenneth grabbed his sister's arm.“Why do you have to act like that?” Kenneth asked.“Act like what?”“Like you’re close and everything is fine. Tone down your friendliness, Sarah. I don’t want you getting into trouble with the Harrison family again. It’s enough that I don’t want you involved,” Kenneth said firmly.“Then what’s the point of you collaborating with Alden? Giantic Company. Do I need to remind you about that?”Sarah shrugged off Kenneth’s grip.If only Sarah had known that Alden was collaborating with Giantic, she wouldn’t have attended the gala dinner. Seeing Alden walking, laughing freely, and happy made Sarah even sadder. Alden’s happiness was no longer with Sarah, while when Alden was down, it was Sa
