I felt like a lamb being assigned to a wolf's dinner plate as I moved to join Ivan's team. The other three members—Martinez, Chen, and two others whose names I didn't catch—gave me wary looks. Being singled out by Ivan was never a good thing in their eyes.

Ivan clapped a heavy hand on my shoulder, the weight of it threatening to drive me to my knees. My omega instincts flared, urging submission, but I forced my spine to remain straight.

"Welcome to the winning team, Blackwood," he murmured, his breath hot against my ear. "Try to keep up."

Practice was brutal. Ivan used every opportunity to body-check me, to press close, to force me into physical contact. Each time, I felt my control slipping, my carefully maintained façade cracking under the pressure. Worse, I was sweating heavily, which meant the formula was breaking down faster than usual.

By the end of the first quarter of our practice game, my clothes were soaked with sweat, and panic was setting in. I needed to reapply the formul

  • Masked Desire   Chapter 11

The next day, I made sure I was extra careful with my routine. I applied a thicker layer of the formula, rubbing it firmly into my skin until my fingers were numb. I couldn't afford any mistakes, not after what happened yesterday. The memory of Ivan's voice outside the stall—_"You can't hide forever"_—sent shivers down my spine.I checked my reflection in the mirror, making sure I looked composed. Dark circles shadowed my eyes from lack of sleep. Every time I'd closed my eyes last night, I'd dreamt of being discovered, of being dragged away like my uncle and cousin, never to make my own choices again.I'd spent hours staring at Avalon's note. Those three words—_"You owe me"_—felt more dangerous than Ivan's threats. At least with Ivan, the danger was straightforward. But Avalon? His motivations remained a mystery that unsettled me even more. The first half of the day passed in a blur of lectures and furtive glances over my shoulder. I avoided eye contact with everyone, especially the t

  • Masked Desire   Chapter 10

"What the fuck, Ravencrest?" Ivan snarled, turning to face Avalon. His scent reeked of aggression and frustration. "Why are you always showing up where you're not wanted?"Avalon stood at the entrance to the changing room, Kaelen's imposing figure slightly behind him. The two of them blocked the exit completely, a fact that didn't escape Ivan's notice."I could ask you the same question," Avalon replied coolly. "The basketball court seems an unusual place for someone who's made his distaste for the sport abundantly clear. Or were you simply looking for someone?"Ivan's lip curled into a sneer. "What's your problem with the scared little alpha boy? Don't you have much better things to do than following him around?" He gestured toward the stall I was hiding in, and I pressed myself harder against the wall, as if I could somehow melt into it. "Besides, the boy is worthless to either of us. Just a Blackwood in name, nothing more."I flinched at his words, even as I prayed for him to leave

  • Masked Desire   Chapter 9

I stand frozen, my back pressed against the cold tile wall of the changing stall. My heart hammers so violently I'm certain Ivan can hear it from the other side of the door. Sweat trickles down my spine, each droplet releasing more of my natural scent into the air.*What the hell is Ivan doing here?* The thought races through my panicked mind. Basketball was supposed to be safe—the domain of betas and weaker alphas. Ivan Volkov plays hockey, where alphas could legally draw blood and call it sport. That's his territory, not this. Then it hits me with sickening clarity—Ivan is here because of *me*. Because I stood him up last night in the library. Because in the unforgiving hierarchy of Blackmoor Academy, no one defies an alpha like Ivan without serious consequences. I should have known better. And now my clothes are missing, along with the elixir. The carefully crafted facade I've maintained for exactly one week was about to come crashing down around me. Everything I've worked for, gon

  • Masked Desire   Chapter 8

Author's POVThe library was quiet and empty, with moonlight coming through the big windows and making shadows across the old books. Ivan looked at his watch again. Midnight. Jason was now thirty minutes late.He wasn't coming.Something hurt in Ivan's chest—a feeling he didn't want to think about. He walked back and forth in the blocked-off part of the library, his steps echoing. Each minute made him angrier."Chicken," he said under his breath, hating how the word tasted. He remembered seeing Avalon and Kaelen next to Jason at dinner yesterday. How Avalon had put his arm behind Jason's chair. How Jason had gotten stiff but stayed put.Ivan knocked some books to the floor with a loud crash. Why did he care? Why did this nobody wolf from a broken family bug him so much?"Avalon got there just in time," one of his betas had told him. "Looked like a real hero, rushing in to save the Blackwood kid." Without thinking, his claws came out, cutting deep marks in the old wooden table. He pul

  • Masked Desire   Chapter 7

I walked around my room like a trapped rat, pulling my hair over and over. Three days at Blackmoor Academy and I'd already gotten more eyes on me than most kids do in all four years."Dumb, dumb, dumb," I said, kicking my bed.The plan was easy. Stay quiet. Fit in. Be nobody. Instead, I'd somehow got caught between three of the strongest alphas in school. Ivan wanted to wreck me, Avalon wanted to own me, and Kaelen... well, I didn't know what Kaelen wanted, but it couldn't be good.I looked at my watch. 7:30. Class starts in thirty minutes, and I needed my books from my locker. I'd stayed away from the locker room when it was busy, but I couldn't skip class on my second real day. After putting on my scent blocker real careful, I grabbed my bag and went to the door. My hand stopped as my dad's words hit me."Four years, Jason. Just four years of keeping your head down. Is that so hard?"Guess it was.~~~The locker room was pretty empty, just a few kids getting stuff before class. Stil

  • Masked Desire   Chapter 6

I told myself I wasn't going. I spent hours convincing myself that meeting Avalon at the treehouse was the worst possible idea—a risk I couldn't afford to take. Yet here I was, walking across the darkened campus grounds just before midnight, cursing my own stupidity with every step. The night air was crisp, moonlight filtering through the autumn leaves and casting strange shadows across the path. The campus was mostly silent at this hour, with only the occasional distant laughter from late-night study groups in the dormitories. I kept to the shadows, moving quickly, the weight of the scent-blocking formula vial heavy in my pocket.I'd applied a fresh layer before leaving my room, being extra thorough. Something about Avalon's behavior earlier had left me unsettled—the way he'd looked at me, scented me. As if he knew something he shouldn't.The western boundary of campus was marked by an old stone wall, half-crumbled in places and covered with ivy. Beyond it lay a small wooded area tha

  • Masked Desire   Chapter 5

Avalon’s POVAs soon as we were far enough from Blackwood's door, Kaelen grabbed my arm, yanking me into an empty study room. The door had barely closed before he rounded on me, eyes flashing with barely contained fury."What the fuck was that?" he hissed, keeping his voice low despite his obvious rage. "Touching him like that? 'Little wolf'? Are you serious, Avalon?"I leaned against the wall, crossing my arms as I studied my beta. Jealousy looked good on him—his gold-silver eyes practically glowed with it, his body tense and ready to fight. It was almost cute how possessive he could be."Are you done?" I asked calmly."No, I'm not fucking done." He paced the small room like a caged animal. "We came here for one reason—to strengthen our packs' alliance and increase our political power. Not for you to get distracted by some fallen alpha from a disgraced bloodline."I let out a low chuckle. "Is that what you think is happening?""I know what I saw," Kaelen snapped. "The way you touched

  • Masked Desire   Chapter 4

I stared at the door, frozen in place. My heartbeat thundered in my ears as Kaelen knocked again, harder this time."Blackwood, I know you're in there." His voice had lost its earlier heat, replaced with cool authority. "Open the door before I break it down."An alpha threat. My body recognized it before my mind did—that telltale shiver running down my spine, the instinctive urge to obey. I fought it down, gritting my teeth as I checked my appearance in the mirror. No visible signs of what I'd just done, and I'd applied enough formula that my scent should be masked.I couldn't hide forever. Taking a deep breath, I unlocked the door and pulled it open just enough to see them both standing there—Avalon leaning against the wall opposite my door with careless grace, Kaelen directly in front of me, arms crossed over his chest. They looked composed, as if they hadn't just been fucking against a bookshelf minutes ago."Can I help you?" I asked, fighting to keep my voice steady.Kaelen's eyes
