Jason's POV

The detention facility smells like disinfectant and despair. Brett leads me through narrow corridors lined with dampening stones, their magic making my skin crawl. I keep my hood up, trying to look inconspicuous as we pass other visitors and guards.

"Ten minutes," Brett whispers as we stop outside a reinforced door. "That's all I could arrange."

The visiting room is small and sterile, divided by a thick glass partition. Ivan sits on the other side, dressed in standard detention gray, his hands cuffed to the table. When he sees me, his eyes widen with genuine surprise.

"You actually came," he says through the communication spell woven into the glass. "I thought... after everything, I thought you believed I was against you."

I sit down slowly, studying his face. He looks tired, older somehow, but his eyes are the same as I remember. "Why did you want to see me?"

"Because I need to tell you the truth. About Liam. About why I killed him."

My heart hammers against my ribs. "Why

  • Masked Desire   Chapter 75

Avalon's POVJason's body goes limp in my arms, his breathing shallow and labored. The sight of him in such pain makes my chest tighten with something I don't want to name. I lower him gently onto the cushions, brushing a strand of hair from his fevered forehead."What the hell did you do to him?" I snarl at Kaelen, who's emerging from the shadows with a small vial in his hand."I used exactly what you asked me to for capturing him," he replies coolly. "The pain amplifier. It worked perfectly.""It was supposed to be mild discomfort, not agony!" I can still hear Jason's screams echoing in my head. "He could have died from that level of pain!""But he didn't. And now he's unconscious and compliant, just as your father requested." Kaelen pockets the vial. "The deal is almost complete."I want to hit him. Want to tear that smug expression off his face. But before I can move, I hear the sound of footsteps outside the treehouse. Heavy boots. Multiple sets."They're here," Kaelen says.My f

  • Masked Desire   Chapter 73

Jason's POVI wake up feeling like death. My head is pounding, my stomach is churning, and every muscle in my body aches like I've been hit by a truck. The morning light streaming through my window makes me want to crawl back under the covers and pretend yesterday never happened. But I can't forget what happened last night. The pain that came out of nowhere, tearing through me like fire. The way I screamed until my throat was raw. The way I called for Avalon, begging him to help me, but he never came.I sit up slowly, my hand pressed to my forehead. What the hell was that? I've never felt anything like it before. It was like every nerve in my body was on fire, like something was trying to claw its way out of my skull.I need to tell someone. I need to figure out what's wrong with me.My phone buzzes on the nightstand. A text from Avalon.*Meet me at the tree house. We need to talk.*I stare at the message, my heart doing something weird in my chest. Part of me wants to ignore it, to p

  • Masked Desire   Chapter 72

Ivan's POV The pounding on my door comes at dawn, sharp and insistent. I'm already awake, have been for hours, staring at the ceiling and thinking about Jason's screams echoing through the corridors last night. The sound had cut through me like a blade, and I'd almost broken down his door to get to him. Almost. But I'd seen Avalon and Kaelen in the hallway, seen the way they'd talked in hushed, urgent voices before disappearing into Kaelen's room. Whatever was happening to Jason, they were behind it. The pounding intensifies, and I hear voices outside. Official voices. My stomach drops. "Ivan, open this door immediately." I recognize the voice—Dean Blackwood, the academy's head of security. Beside him, I can make out at least three other figures through the frosted glass of my door. I sit up slowly, my mind racing. There's only one reason security would be at my door at dawn, and it has everything to do with the knife that's currently hidden beneath my mattress. The same knife

  • Masked Desire   Chapter 71

Jason's POV The silence stretches between us like a chasm. Avalon stares at me, his face pale in the lamplight, while I hold his phone with Kaelen's message still glowing on the screen. *"Missing you. Where are you? Want to see you."* The words feel like acid in my throat. After everything we just shared, after the way he touched me, the way he whispered my name like a prayer—this is what I find. Evidence that I'm not the only one he's been intimate with. Evidence that maybe I never mattered at all. "Jason," Avalon says softly, reaching for me. "Let me explain." I step back, still naked, still vulnerable, clutching his phone like evidence of a crime. "Explain what? That you've been fucking us both? That everything you just said to me was a lie?" "It's not like that." "Then what is it like?" My voice cracks, and I hate how desperate I sound. "Because right now it looks like you've been playing games with both of us." He stares at me, his mouth opening and closing like he's tryi

  • Masked Desire   Chapter 70

Avalon's POVThe weight of the agreement burns in my jacket pocket as I walk through the academy corridors toward Jason's dorm. My father's signature is still drying on the parchment, sealing both my future and Jason's fate. But right now, all I can think about is the way Jason looked at me earlier—trusting, desperate, choosing me over Ivan.I pause outside his door, my hand hovering over the wood. Everything I've worked for, everything I've sacrificed, comes down to this moment. The deal with my father. The promise to deliver Jason. The conditions I negotiated to protect him.The door opens before I can knock."Avalon," Jason says, and there's surprise in his voice. "I didn't expect to see you tonight.""I wanted to check on you," I say, stepping inside. "After what happened with Brett today."His room is smaller than mine, simpler. The bed is unmade, clothes scattered across the floor. He looks tired, worn down by everything that's happened. The split lip from Brett's attack has swo
