"I'm here to drink away my sorrows. This is a bar, isn't it?" Leo says, cocking his head.

I look around and notice that the bar is empty as usual. Thanks to Silas and his bad attitude, most of the regulars don’t bother showing up anymore.

Silas let out an awkward laughter. "It is, but I'm surprised. We never have any customers, talk less of celebrities, and an A-lister for that matter!" he says, practically bouncing on his feet.

"Oh. I'm sorry," Leo mutters, fiddling with his fingers.

"It's okay! It's okay!" Silas rambles, dusting a bar stool for him. "Please, sit."

Leo obliges and smiles enthusiastically as he watches me go behind the counter, wearing my apron.

I smirk. "You're smiling? You seem a little too excited for someone whose career —according to my roommate — is about to be destroyed."

"Should I jump over a bridge instead?" he jokes.

"Please, don't. Your fans cannot bear you getting injured," I tease as I wipe the counter.

"Well, all my fans hate me now so.."

"I'm sorry, Leonardo," I whisper. "But I bet in three months, the internet would have found someone new to hate. Nobody would even remember this little brawl."

"Three months is a long time, Lara. Too long for an actor to be out of jobs. No brand deal, no commercial ads. A tainted reputation. By that time, I'll be as irrelevant as... Josh Might."

"Wait.. who's Josh Might?"

He deadpans. "Exactly. He's irrelevant."

"Oh." There is an awkward silence for a moment, before I whisper again, "Isn't there anything you can do to make everyone know the truth about Roman Sinclair?"

He sighs. "In the eyes of the internet, I'm guilty. Anything I say now seems like a desperate attempt to fix my reputation."

In Leonardo's eyes, I see fear, anger, exhaustion, hurt and most of all, misery.

I never feel bad for rich people. But this particular one? I just want to give him a warm, long hug. Until the sun sets. Until the moon makes an entrance. Until I feel his sadness float away.

But there is a counter separating us. So I just put my palm over his and squeeze reassuringly. It's a simple gesture, but he looks up at me like I just saved his life.

"You'll be okay," I whisper.

"No, I won't," he replies, taking unsteady breaths. "You don't know the half of it. Nobody does."

His words scare me. I remember the man with blood-shot eyes and a bruised jaw that I saw in the bathroom. It's still hard to believe that it was Mr. Knight. Harder to believe that he healed... all on his own.

"What happened in the bathroom?" I find myself inquiring.

His demeanor changes almost immediately. He laughs, peeling his hand away from mine. "I can't tell you, Lara Bello. It's a secret. If I told you, I'd have to kill you."

"Fine. I really don't care." I look away, feeling flustered.

Leo bangs his hand on the counter playfully. "Now, isn't this supposed be a bar?! I still have no alcohol in me and that's so wrong!"

I roll my eyes. "That's because you haven't ordered anything, genius. What's your order?"

"Hmm." He places a finger on his chin, thinking. "What does the pretty bartender suggest?"

I smile, half-polite, half-flirtatious. "What kind of day are you having, Mister Knight?"

"A very weird, sad, strange day," he says.

"Then, you need something refreshing. I'll give you a gin and tonic with a fresh citrus garnish."

"Do your thing, Bartenda!" he bellows with an encouraging whistle.

I start moving behind the counter. I grab an exclusive wine glass, fill it with ice, add gin and tonic. Then, I rub citrus peels around the glass rims.

"Done!" I sing, sliding the glass to him.

He downs it in one gulp and it burns his throat.

"It's good, right?" My eyes widen, hoping he likes it.

"Damn right! How does this bar not have more customers, with a bartender like you? Funny, smart and pretty."

"Because it has an owner who is the opposite of all three." I chuckle, then check to make sure Silas is not near.

"Ohhh, that guyyy!" Leo drawls, the alcohol settling in. "Well, fuck him! People are such assholes! They make me angry."

"You got that right," I agree, bemused.

"Pour me another drink and put it on my tab!" he shouts.

"Your tab? You don't have a tab, Leo," I tell him, laughing affectionately.

"Well, create one for me. I think I'll be coming here more often."

"Alright then, Mister Knight." I make him another gin & tonic, and slid it over to him. But he slides it back.

"Drink with me. Come on, Lara.." he urges, murmuring my name like a dangerous addiction.

"I'm at work!" I give a coy, half-hearted rejection.

"And who says you can't have a little fun while at work? Your annoying boss?" he leans in closer, staring into my eyes. "You're really pretty."

"I know that." I move away, breaking the electric eye contact.

"Aw, don't leave," he grumbles, grabbing the cup and drinking. "I want to have some fun.. with you."

"Leonardo Knight," I say flatly. "You're drunk and out of your mind."

A drowsy smile forms on his face. "Not drunk enough to not know when I see a beautiful girl."

Wow. I almost blush. He really is a sweet talker. But since I have a Leo-crazy best friend, I know that his girlfriend is some actress named Lena Black. And he loves her.

"You have a girlfriend." I deadpan.

"I do? Who? Oh, don't remind me, I know who it is!" He gasps.

Before I can reply, he continues, "Lara! Her name is Lara Bello. And she's gorgeous.. but she's also no fun because she makes me drink all on my own." He gives an exaggerated pout.

I scoff amusedly. He's an interesting guy. And one drink can't hurt. Just one.

But somehow, one drink turns to two turns to us taking "shots! shots! shots!" and now we're laying comfortably on the counter. We're counting the dots on the ceiling and imagining them as stars in the sky.

So beautiful... So many stars.

"Kiss me," I say to Leo. "Just kiss me."

That's the last thing I remember before the entire night becomes a blur.

The next morning, I wake up with a pounding hangover headache. I'm still in the bar, but I don't see Leo anywhere.

Ughh. I'm too hangover to start thinking of anything.

I check my phone and see 13 missed calls from Alyssa and thrice more as text messages.

I call her back. The first thing she barks into my poor ears:

"You're Leonardo Knight's new girlfriend?!!"

"Dear Lara.My next research paper is on criminal law in the anonymous cyberspace. I think a smart girl like you could have some useful insights for me. Come over to my office whenever you can.Sincerely,Professor David J. Norman."My eyes go over the email for the umpteenth time and I squeal on my bed like a lovesick teenage girl.Is this real?I read it again. It is!Normally, I'd go to Alyssa and we'd scream about this together. But I'm not so sure that I trust her anymore. I put on a simple flowery dress, pair it with a denim jacket, and slip out. ** * **I give a quiet, careful knock on his door."Come in," I hear, and let myself in.My professor has his head bent, perusing some papers. He looks so tired—his shirt is slightly unbuttoned, sleeves rolled up, tired eyes, tousled slick back hair. It only makes him sexier though."Professor Norman?" I whisper. He looks up and straightens his posture. "It's you. Lara." He takes in what I'm wearing and lets out a satisfied sigh.I no

LARA's POVDavid Norman. His name alone feels like a little jazz tune in my head. He's brilliant, well-respected and composed. A real man. The man I dream about after a long, stressful day at university. I also dream about him while I'm in school. And well... even before I go to school. Fine, always! He's the crush that lives forever in my brain without paying rent. I want him... so bad. But I can never have him.Because of one tiny, inconvenient detail... Maybe two. He's my Criminal law professor. And he's thirty-nine years old. 16 years older than I am."The mens rea of a crime is the mental element. The offender's state of mind. In this case scenario, can anyone tell me the mens rea?" he asks at the front of the class. My hand flies above my head. "Miss Bello?""The intention to steal, sir.""Correct." He smiles. He smiles to everyone. Lara, don't get ahead of yourself.David Norman continues his lecture and I hang on to his every word. No professor gets me as excited as he do

  • Mate me at Hollywood (18+)   Chapter 11: Strawberry moon of betrayal

LARA's POV.Immediately we step into the bus, half of the passengers recognize Leonardo Knight. There are gasps, whispers, screams, joyful tears. It still baffles me that people adore him so much. I mean... it's just Leo.He's posing playfully for pictures and signing autographs all with a charming smile."Leonardo, can you sing a happy birthday song for my cousin? It's her birthday tomorrow," asks a bespectacled, bubbly teenage girl, as she eagerly records a video."Sure thing," he replies with a sweet shrug. "What's your cousin's name?""Rachel."Then with the theatrical flair of a broadway star, Leo begins the popular birthday song and ends it a high note. All the way down the aisle, we’re swarmed. Even after we sit, the attention doesn’t stop. People gather like we’re a live show on tour.I think I've successfully faded into the background until one girl points at me, and her eyes widen. "Oh my gosh. You're Lara Bello, his new girlfriend!"My mouth forgets how to speak.Leo, cool

  • Mate me at Hollywood (18+)   10. No looking back

Leonardo's POVIt's Lena. My first thought is how she got into the party. Definitely not through the front door. If she did, someone might be getting fired. I have specifically told my security guards and bouncers that if Lena Black or Roman Sinclair show up at my door, they must call the police to arrest them.Yeah, I'm petty like that."What are you doing here?" I snap."You won't pick my calls or reply my texts. Did you block me?""I don't want to see your texts. And I definitely don't want to see you in my house.""I'm sorry, Leenie. I made a terrible mistake. I won't ever do it again," she pleads. Her voice grates on my nerve like chalk on a blackboard..Suddenly, everything about her seems so annoying. That stupid nickname she calls me. Leenie. Who the fuck is Leenie anyway? The fool who didn't realize his girlfriend had been cheating with his best friend for six months? I used to like that she was high-class with a good eye for fashion. Now, even adorned in Gucci, she looks che

Leonardo's POVWhen an actor wins an award as important as an Oscar, it's customary to throw a big, lavish party. Mickie is not one to ignore customs, despite the scandals that almost ruined everything. The party is full of plastic Hollywood faces. People who had unfollowed me and condemned me online after the Oscar punch are suddenly on my side. Now, their designer heels click against my marble floor as they strut around, adorned with their hypocrisy."Leonardo, congratulations on the Oscar. The movie, Gunshot was so good. Made me cry. You really deserve this," a reality star purrs, smiling like a Cheshire cat.I want to say, "But two days ago, you were the one leading the PunishLeo movement. Take away his Oscar. Ban him for life. Tell me, what changed, Karen?"But Armani and Mickie would kill me. No, that's not an exaggeration. They'd throw me in the Atlantic Ocean and go find a more obedient actor to work for.So I smile. "Thank you. Your love and support means the world to me."Th

"What?!"Leo and I blurt it out in unison. If I had been drinking anything, it’d be all over the floor by now."I don't think I heard you correctly," I say, brows furrowed."If you heard me ask you to be this guy's girlfriend," he points at Leo, "then, you heard correctly."Leo drops his phone on the table. "You can't be serious. Why?""To increase the force of Team Leo and Lara. I'm not asking you to commit to each other and get married or anything. Just a fake PR relationship for a few months."I glance at the exit door that was now calling, no, screaming my name. "I'm sorry. I wish I could help. But Hollywood really isn't my thing. Leo, I hope you get better. Goodbye."I turn around to leave. "200 thousand dollars for five months," Armani yells. That stops me in my tracks. Leaves me frozen and speechless, actually. "Huh?""200k dollars. Just to fake-date a celebrity for five months," he repeats.Holy shit. That's way more that I make in one year of juggling 60 hours/week between t
