The doctor checks my wound after taking off the bandages, declaring me all healed up.  He reminds me, "Now, don't forget to still be careful twisting and turning for a couple of days, otherwise it will reopen."  He points at me, looking sternly and then smiles because I can't help but laugh.  Of course, it still hurts when I do, so I immediately regret it.

Today is the day I get to start to feel back to normal.  No more getting carried everywhere by the Alpha and worshipped by the Alpha and hugged and kissed by the Alpha.  Oh who am I kidding, I loved every bit of it.

After the last attack, everyone has been on high alert, but since there haven't been anymore for at least a week, Eric hopes that it has ended.  There are several of the pack that doesn't believe that and are blaming it all on me.  They figure that because I am so young and Eric has been preoccupied with me that he has let another Alpha into the territory beyond the three we already have.

Today there will be a council meeting and Eric's twin brother Ryder will be here among others. His pack the Silver Fangs, are in charge of the northern most part of the territory, up in the mountains.  Apparently, they have been getting attacked quite regularly too.

Hearing a commotion, I rush out to the entry way and watch as Eric barres his teeth at Steven while growling.  He yells, "What is your problem?  She is my mate and you had better get used to it or the next time you say something you will find yourself packless and minus a few limbs.  Don't try me."

Backing up, Steven raises his hands to show that he means no harm, but I can hear his thoughts from a mile away.  Clearing my throat, I ask, "Are you two through or shall I come back later?"

Eric turns to glance at me before returning his gaze onto Steven, then Steven shrugs his shoulders before turning to leave and walking out the door.  Making his way to my side, Eric looks upset and says, "I didn't want you to know what was going on."

Guessing now is just as good a time as later, I tell him what my gift is from my wolf, "Eric, I need to tell you something and it has everything to do with what is going on."

He looks down at me and says, "Go on."

Sitting down on the couch and motioning for him to sit next to me, he follows.  I cough before I continue and then stare into his eyes when I say, "My wolf gifted me the power of hearing others thoughts and Steven made it loud and clear to me that he wants to take over and be the Alpha.  He thinks I am way too young and inexperienced to be able to stand next to you and lead the pack. I think he has something to do with all the attacks, but I am not sure yet."

Hearing that, he stands straight up and bolts for the door.  Quickly, I chase after him before he reaches Steven's house and I grab ahold of his arm.  "I have no proof yet, if you do this now everyone will believe that he is right.  You are leading with your emotions and we have to step back and wait for him to screw up."

Realizing that I am right, he relaxes and he nods in understanding, but before we get back to the pack house I hear someone talking about attacking tonight.  Not recognizing the voice, I decide to tell Eric about it later after he has calmed down.  After all, he isn't exactly thinking clearly with everything that has been going on lately.

Later, after we get everything situated in the house and the pups to bed, I let Eric know that there may be a problem.  Alarmed, he puts the security squad on high alert and we wait for something to happen.  Sitting there in the living room, I have a strange sensation go up my arms.

Why do I feel like a million little spiders are crawling on me?  Looking down, I watch as a Funnel Web spider and it's babies are making there way up my skin.  I start to freak out and Eric rushes over, seeing the spiders and brushes them off of me.  Picking me up and carrying me to the kitchen, he calls for backup and wonders where the spiders came from.

It's strange, because that type of spider is not from this area.  That can only mean one thing, someone put them there so we would get bitten and die.  They are getting sneakier and smarter and that isn't a good thing.

Hearing a scream from one of the pups in the kid's bedroom, we all run and when we open the door we stand in shock.  With the lights on, we see several big spiders working there way around the room to the little ones.  One has two of them on her and she is desperately trying to get them off.

Eric jumps into action after the initial shock of the scene and I follow close behind.  The rest of the security squad run in and leap across the room to carry the pups out.  Before we get every last one of them out, someone gets bit.

I watch as little Tiffany screams in pain before she faints.  Grabbing her, I run to the doc's as fast as I can, not even thinking about my wound.  Once I am there, I look down at her face to realize that she isn't breathing anymore and hand her off to the doctor.

  • Mated For Life The Alpha's Mate    Chapter 62: The Shot

Sitting there for the longest time, I have yet to figure out exactly what to do. I put my face in my hands and start to sob, but then I stop and stand when my cheek starts to ache again. Touching it, I press in and hear something clicking. Walking over to the mirror, I stare at my reflection. A broken woman looks back at me. Someone who once was proud and stood tall, I am now shattered and a mere shadow of myself. Today, I thought it was the end for me and the scary fact is that I had come to terms with everything. I forgave everyone and yet there is something that still bothers me. Eric said that he hasn’t been the Alpha I need him to be. What he doesn’t realize is that I don’t need him as an alpha, just my mate. He is everything I need and more, but because he feels like he failed me he has become someone else, and I see it in his eyes. The disappointment and sadness, but mostly regret.

  • Mated For Life The Alpha's Mate    Chapter 61: Is It All Lost?

“Crash” The whole house shakes as the sound reverberates through out every room. From upstairs, I hear someone screaming and then as soon as I get my bearings, I rush down to find out what has happened. The next thing I know, my face is buried in the pillows on the couch and there is someone over me with his hand on my head, not letting me move. I hear a man speak in a low deliberate voice, “I presume that you are Raven the Luna of the Wild Fang Walkers and Alpha Eric’s mate.” Staring at me as he waits for my response, I say nothing. “Alright, so we know that you are one in the same and I have been sent here to take you back to my boss, the King pin of Avalon City. Apparently the two of you, have done quite a bit of damage to the syndicate and they don’t appreciate it. They have sat back long enough and tolerated your presence. So, from this moment on, the humans rule this planet, not your kind. By the way, has anyo

  • Mated For Life The Alpha's Mate    Chapter 60: The Calm Before The Storm

It has been 2 years since the war with the humans. When Eric stomped them down, the mafia bosses seemed to not want any more to do with us. Just as long as we don’t leave our territory, and they don’t leave theirs we all get along. “Momma, momma.” “Momma.” Turning to Hope and Justin, I smile and then take one in each arm before standing up. Kissing them on the head, I remember when things weren’t going so well. My world is different now though, because everyone respects me and when I say something, there are no more doubts. Of course, Eric might have something to do with that. The moment someone even thinks about it, Eric rips their throats out and doesn’t give them a second chance, because he is a powerful adversary all on his own and with me by his side, we are unstoppable. Not to mention, now that the pups are growing big and strong, he would never let anything happen to them ever again. As I carry

  • Mated For Life The Alpha's Mate    Chapter 59: A Rose By Any Other Name

As soon as word gets out that I am about to get out of the clinic, Eric comes rushing in with a dozen red roses and a huge smile on his handsome face. The last few days, he has been staying at the clinic, but this morning he ran off and I didn’t know why till now. I stare at him as he waits patiently for the doctor to walk in and check me over. Hearing the doctor from the other room, we both glance at each other and smile. The door opens and then the doctor peers in, checking to make sure he isn’t intruding before he enters the room. Eric immediately starts pacing because I can tell he can’t wait to get me out of here. After all, tonight is a full moon. Still holding the roses, he remembers that he is carrying them and leans forward so I can smell. So, I close my eyes and take a breath in through my nose. The scent fills me, and I make a “Mm” Sound. When the doctor walks over to me and listens to my heart, he gl

  • Mated For Life The Alpha's Mate    Chapter 58: The Strange Disappearance

“Raven, do you know where Lizzy went? The pups are hungry, and she isn’t anywhere to be found. I don’t like the fact that people disappear far too frequently around here. We have to start doing something about it.” He stares at me with a frown before waiting for me to answer. “Well, I can take care of the pups food needs for the moment, but we have to find someone who will actually be here full time. I thought she was responsible enough, but maybe she found her mate and they have gone off somewhere to be alone. Who knows?” He nods and then leans down before giving me a kiss on the lips that feels more like he is thinking of something else. His eyes wander to the window before he walks off and disappears out the door. Staring after him, I put down my book and stand up to go to the kitchen, when I hear a strange noise in the bathroom. Cocking my head, I listen for a minute longer. Nothing, but the minute I s

  • Mated For Life The Alpha's Mate    Chapter 57: Is It A Figment Of My Imagination?

“Bang” “Boom” My eyes hurt and feel puffy, but when I wake up it is pale in comparison to the sharp pain still in my shoulder. Now I am beginning to wonder if the blow to my skull hasn’t caused me to hallucinate, because I hear loud noises in the next room and Eric’s voice again. He is shouting out asking, “Where is she? I know you have her.” “Boom” “Crash” “Boom” Sitting there, I notice something after a little while. Everything grows quiet and right before Jeremy’s face peers through the door, I see someone sitting in the corner staring at me. It is a bit odd, but I dismiss it quickly as also part of my imagination till he turns the light on, and I see it is not. Jeremy walks in and then I see an older grey-haired man who looks to be almost 7 foot tall. His eyes are wide and a shade of blue that is so bright that it looks unreal. I can smell his cologne from a mile away and it makes m
