SIERRA

Dane shifted under our grip, tense, breathing heavily. He wasn’t fighting us anymore, but his muscles were still tight, like he could snap at any moment.

“Put him on the platform, let me see what I can do,” the warlock said, pointing to a stone slab surrounded by glowing runes.

Zane and Kane helped Dane up, guiding him as gently as possible. He didn't speak. He didn’t even look at me. My heart twisted in my chest.

The warlock moved quickly, placing his hands over Dane’s head, chanting low under his breath. Blue light pulsed from his fingers, washing over Dane’s body. Dane winced, like the magic burned his skin. I reached out, but the warlock snapped, “Do not touch him!”

I froze.

For the next ten minutes, the warlock worked in silence. Dane trembled, his body arching slightly as the magic worked through him. Then, suddenly, the light dimmed. The warlock staggered back a step, eyes wide.

“What is it?” I rushed forward. “What’s wrong?”

“He’s bonded too deeply,” the warlock said sl

SIERRA“I’m sorry,” I said as I entered the room.Zane and Kane turned to me quickly. Dane was still tied to the post, growling low in his throat, his eyes wild and dark. He looked worse. Sweat was dripping from his face, and the ropes were almost frayed from how much he had struggled.“She said no?” Kane asked.I nodded slowly. “Ariel refused. She laughed at me. Said I was stupid for taking the bond from my sister. She’s angry. She said Dane hurt her too much, and she doesn’t love him anymore.”Zane’s face twisted in frustration. He cursed under his breath and ran a hand through his hair as he started pacing. “Damn it. That girl’s pride is going to get us all killed. She doesn’t love him? Then why clamoring for his love in the first place?”I swallowed the lump in my throat, my voice shaky. “She said she’d rather die with him than help.”That silenced everyone.Kane turned sharply and looked at Dane again. He was still tied to the post in the corner of the room. His breathing was hea

SIERRAThe walk to Ariel’s quarters felt heavier than anything I had done in my life. Every step echoed with fear and desperation. My legs felt like stone, and my heart thudded with the weight of everything I was about to ask. I didn’t even know what I was hoping for, maybe a miracle. Maybe for once, Ariel would feel something like mercy. Something like guilt. But deep inside, I knew this was a stretch. Ariel had changed. Or maybe she had always been this way, and I just refused to see it.Still, I had to try.Every corner I turned inside the castle made me feel more and more anxious. All I knew was that Dane was falling apart, and the only person who had the power to stop it was her.I reached her door and stood there for a second, frozen. My hand hovered in the air, trembling slightly. What if she laughed in my face? What if she slammed the door before I could say a word? Or worse, what if she said yes and used it to destroy me later? But I knocked anyway. The door swung open almost

SIERRAI couldn’t sleep.Every time I closed my eyes, I kept seeing Dane’s face. Not the sweet, gentle one I fell in love with. Not the book-loving, warm, careful soul I knew. This new version of him... it chilled me. The look in his eyes when he ripped those books, the coldness in his voice. It wasn’t him.Something was wrong. Deeply wrong.I got out of bed and quietly dressed. The palace was quiet, everyone asleep or pretending to be. I walked through the halls, heading to the one person I knew might have answers. The warlock. He lived in one of the guest towers, away from the rest of us. When I knocked, he opened the door like he’d been expecting me."Sierra," he said, voice raspy and calm. "You felt it too, didn’t you?"I nodded, my heart pounding. "Dane... he’s not okay. Something is taking over him. Can you help?"He stepped back, gesturing for me to come in. I did."I can try," he said. "But I’ll need to run tests on him. Magical ones. Deep tests. This isn’t surface-level madne

KANEI found Zane by the garden wall, arms crossed and jaw clenched tight. The moonlight hit his face just enough for me to see the worry carved deep into it. He didn’t even look at me when I walked up.“You saw it too, didn’t you?” I asked quietly.Zane let out a breath, slow and heavy. “Yeah.”Neither of us said anything for a moment. The air was thick. After what happened with Ariel, we were all shaken. But this... what Dane did...“That wasn’t him,” I said after a beat. “The way he crushed her thumb like that... Dane doesn’t do stuff like that.”Zane turned to me, his eyes sharp. “Exactly. He’s never even raised his voice like that before. You saw how calm he was after it too? Like it didn’t matter?”“Yeah. Like he’s changed or something.”Zane nodded. “I tried to talk to him after, you know? Just to check in. He brushed me off. Like I was annoying him.”I frowned. “That’s not like him either. Dane’s always been... gentle.”“Soft,” Zane added. “Kind. Always reading some boring boo

SIERRAI heard the yelling from down the hall. At first, I thought maybe it was just Alpha Thane getting frustrated at the guards, but something in his tone sent a chill down my spine. Then I heard my mother scream.I didn’t think. I just ran."Come on!" I shouted, heart pounding, as I tore down the corridor. I didn’t wait for an explanation…I just ran. The sound of my mother screaming still echoed in my ears, and I could feel my pulse in my throat. Dane was right behind me, his face sharp with concern, and Kane and Zane caught up in just a few long strides. None of us spoke. We didn’t have to. Trouble had a sound, and we all heard it.When we turned the corner into the common room, I skidded to a stop. The air felt heavier in here, like it was holding its breath. And then I saw her.Ariel.She had my mother. Her grip was tight, one hand wrapped like a vice around my mom’s wrist, the other holding a sharp piece of broken plate. It gleamed under the light, jagged and ugly. My mom looke

ARIELI paced the room again, back and forth like a caged animal. My hands were shaking, my skin hot with anger. I hadn’t slept. I couldn’t. Not when I was stuck in this damn place, treated like some threat, like some monster. They wanted to control me. Break me. But I wasn’t going to let them. The door creaked open."Ariel," Sierra’s mother said softly, stepping inside with a tray. "I brought you something to eat."I turned around slowly, staring at the plate of food in her hands. The smell alone made my stomach twist, not with hunger, but rage. The nerve. The actual nerve to walk in here like I was just going to sit and smile and eat."Get that out of my sight," I said through gritted teeth. She blinked, her voice still calm. "You haven’t eaten all day. You need to keep your strength.""I said, get it out!" I screamed. She flinched but didn’t move. That only made me angrier. I marched up to her, eyes locked on the tray. My hands trembled, my breaths were shallow. I hated the sympath

ZANEI couldn’t find her.I searched the training halls, the gardens, even the library, but found nothing. Sierra wasn’t anywhere she normally was, and that only made the knot in my chest tighten. Something felt off.I stormed toward Kane, who was pacing by the west hallway. He looked just as agitated.“You’ve seen her?” I asked.Kane turned, eyes narrowing. “No. She’s not with the warlock. They said she left with Dane.”My jaw clenched. “Of course.”Neither of us said a word for a moment. Just stood there, silent and annoyed. Then, without another thought, we turned and headed for the east wing. Her room.As we reached the door, I heard muffled voices, hers and Dane’s.I pushed the door open, and there they were. Sierra sat at the edge of the bed, laughing at something Dane had just said, her eyes bright, cheeks flushed. Dane stood in front of her, looking way too comfortable. They were in a damn intimate position.“What the hell is going on?” Kane growled. They both turned toward us

SIERRAI was exhausted. The warlock’s voice droned on as he drew another glowing rune in the air, but my mind was drifting. The symbols blurred, my magic flickered. I had been practicing for hours now, digging into ancient texts, trying combinations of chants and energy flows just to find a way to break the bond permanently. To end it. To finally be free of Ariel. But nothing worked."Again," the warlock said firmly. He didn’t even look up from the grimoire in his hands.I nodded, barely lifting my hands. My energy was fading. My spirit felt dry. And something else had shifted, something I hadn’t said out loud yet.My dreams were gone. The visions that used to haunt me every night, the ones from the Moon Goddess… silence. I hadn’t seen her in weeks. And the weird part was, I didn’t miss it. Not even a little.I felt like I was fading into something new. Or maybe… returning to myself. The warlock snapped his fingers. "Focus, Sierra. You can’t lose control now. If you do, you’ll only fu
