SIERRA
“If we lose her, I’ll break your paws!” the familiar dreadful voice sounded behind me.
I cursed inwardly as I quickened my pace, the sound of frightful howls sounding close to me. I took a sharp turn out of the woods. If I could just reach the bar, I could ask my boss for help. At this point I don't mind working the floor for free, anything aside going back to Elvis.
I ran at breakneck speed and I could feel my wolf getting tired. I shifted into my human form and I realized I wasn't hearing any noise. It seems I've lost them.
But just as I was close to the bar, I could almost see it, a huge wolf appeared in my line of vision. I screamed and screeched to a halt. I whirled around to run but stopped when I realized I was surrounded.
“Bitch!” the man who I had kicked earlier walked up to me.
He had a scar on the right side of his face. I will never forget him because I gave him that scar. The mark ran from his right eye down to his cheeks. It made him look ugly, highlighting how dark his heart was.
He was Elvis Beta, Orion.
Orion walked up to me with a cruel smile on his face.
“It’s been three years, Sierra, you wanna know what Elvis did to me when you disappeared?” he snarled in my face.
I couldn't care less but I knew he would show me anyway.
He raised his left hand and showed me his pinkie finger. I gagged when I saw it was just a stump that was there, the finger had been cut off.
Orion laughed when he saw my expression, “Yeah, imagine what he would do to you. Even after you marked my face he didn't pardon me, he still punished me.”
I felt a shudder run through my spine as my lips trembled with fear.
“Please, Orion, don't take me back. I can't go back to him, please let me go. I’ll disappear,” I cried.
Orion laughed, “You have never been my favorite person, Sierra. And, sadly, I can't exact revenge on you for what you have done to me. Alpha Elvis likes his goods untainted, but I do have a small surprise for you.”
My heartbeat increased, anything surprising to Orion was never a good thing. I swallowed the bile that rose in my throat as I tilted my head at him.
“What is it?” I found myself asking, my voice trembling at the end.
I hated how weak I sounded and the fact that I couldn't easily defend myself due to how my wolf tires easily made me sad. Another thing my father had done to me. That man ruined me and my mother’s lives. I hope he rots in hell wherever he is.
“We’re going to see your mother first, surprise!” he cackled like a maniac.
My eyes widened in horror as I stared at him, shaking my head furiously.
“No, my mom is dead!” I lied, anything to keep them away from her.
Orion flexed his knuckles and stared at me, “You’re lucky Elvis likes his goods fresh. You would have been spitting blood by now.”
“Leave my mother alone. Elvis has done enough harm to her,” I cried out, memories of my mother’s screams resounding in my mind. I hated those years.
Orion chuckled darkly, “No, Sierra, Elvis doesn't want your mother. He doesn't care what happens to the old hag.”
My eyes widened in horror as realization dawned on me and I began shaking my head.
“No, Orion, you wouldn't.”
He laughed, “Oh but I would.”
He signaled at the men, “Load her into the truck. Her house should be just down this road. Let’s visit Mama Sierra.”
The men dragged me into the truck and I kept kicking and screaming. I even attempted to bite some of the men and I let out a shrill howl.
Orion laughed at me, “No one is going to save you, Sierra. No one would dare rise against Alpha Elvis.”
As they pushed me into the truck I realized he was right. No one in their right mind would rise against Alpha Elvis which means I was doomed.
Tears rolled down my cheeks as I rested my head on the side of the truck and stared at the moon. Every second spent in this truck took me straight home, back to my mother who would meet her doom in the most gruesome manner.
Everything that has happened in my life up until this point made me not to be a believer. I have never prayed to the moon goddess because where was she when my mother and I suffered?
All through everything we always strived to make our way out of our sufferings but now I suddenly realized there was no hope, only a miracle.
So I stared at the moon, closed my eyes, and whispered a prayer in my heart. If there’s a goddess there, please save my mother.
Orion caught my action and he burst into laughter, “Stop it, Sierra, you're looking very silly. Even the moon goddess herself can't save you now.”
A few miles close to my house the truck suddenly came to a screeching halt as the driver screamed in fear.
I raised my head in surprise wondering what was happening.
“What’s going on?” Orion asked in anger.
“Beta, there was something on the road. It looked like a wolf but also like a man,” the driver said, his voice laced with fear.
Orion scoffed, “There’s no such thing. It’s either a man or a wolf.”
Then he gestured at his guards, “Go, check it out.”
They all left the car except Orion, me, and the driver. A few seconds later we heard a scream, followed by bone cracking and a splash as one of the bodies of the guard fell on the truck.
I let out a scream as I stared at the deformed body. Orion let out a low growl as he stepped out of the truck.
“Where are you? Show yourself!” he snarled.
I peeked out through the window as I saw something move with lightning speed and next thing I saw Orion’s headless corpse.
A scream tore through my throat as the driver reversed back immediately and attempted to drive away when the car was lifted in the air.
The driver fell out and the car was safely placed on the floor. I stepped out of the truck, terrified at the lifeless and deformed bodies on the ground. Everyone was dead.
Then in the middle of the road, standing in front of the truck headlights I saw them. They were three, incredibly tall with glinting silver eyes.
“What kind of devils are you?” I asked, frozen with shock.
They looked like a wolf and a man, just like the driver had said and truly there was no such thing. They weren't moving, just staring at me.
Without thinking twice, I took to my heels and fled my heart pounding in my eardrums with fear.
SIERRAThe apartment was silent except for my steady breathing. Lila sat across from me, candles forming a circle around us. Our hands were linked, palms up. The smell of salt filled the air. Blood spilled onto our palms, our blood bond.“Ready?” I whispered.Lila nodded, tears clinging to her lashes. “Yes.”Her voice was barely a whisper, but there was no hesitation in it. She was ready, even if she was scared. So was I.I looked over her shoulder to the others. Kane stood tall and alert, arms folded tightly across his chest. Zane had already drawn faint protective symbols at the corners of the room, eyes narrowed with focus. Dane was fidgeting, but his stance was solid, jaw clenched. They were ready too.“Kane. Zane. Dane,” I said, voice quiet but firm, “guard me. Keep them back. Don’t let anything cross the circle.”All three nodded. Kane stepped closer to me first, resting a steadying hand on my shoulder. His fingers were warm and strong.“We’ve got you,” he said, voice low, almos
LILAI woke up screaming. The sound tore out of my throat before I could stop it. It was raw, shaky, almost inhuman. My throat burned. My whole body felt like it had been plunged in ice. I clutched my blanket, fists trembling, my chest rising and falling way too fast.My eyes darted around the room—shadows stretched long across the walls. The moonlight outside painted silver streaks on my floor. Everything felt… wrong. My heart slammed against my ribs like it wanted out. I couldn’t breathe. I couldn’t think.I sat straight up in bed, gasping for air, still shaking. Cold sweat stuck my shirt to my back. I pulled my knees to my chest and tried to calm down, but it felt like my nightmare was still clinging to me, wrapped around me like a second skin. The door flew open.“Lila!”Sierra ran in barefoot, her pajama pants twisted at the ankle, oversized hoodie hanging off one shoulder. Her hair was all over the place, but her eyes—those sharp, focused eyes—locked right on me.She looked terr
SIERRAI barely got into the hallway before I froze.“New runes,” I whispered to Dane.He nodded, crouching by Lila’s locker. “Same glow.”The symbol was fresh, etched into the metal, pulsing faintly blue under the fluorescent lights.“Lila’s locker?” I echoed. He tapped it. “Hours old, maybe minutes.”I swallowed. “She’s being targeted.”We split, Dane went to get my notebooks while I marched straight to the principal’s office.I kicked the door open.Principal Deaks looked up, expression polite.“Miss Sierra,” he said, standing slowly from his chair. “Something wrong?”“New disturbances,” I replied, steadying my breath. “In Lila’s locker.”He frowned, just the right amount. “That’s… disturbing. I’ll call security right away.”I shook my head sharply. “No. You’ll do nothing.”The shift in his expression was subtle, but I caught it, like a mask twitching. He straightened his tie, his voice smooth. “What…Miss Sierra, this is serious. If there’s another magic…”“You’re not calling anyon
SIERRAI was halfway down the cereal aisle, debating granola clusters versus something with chocolate swirls, when I saw him.Tall.Black jacket.Dark, unreadable eyes.Same exact posture as before, still, quiet, but alert. Like a predator trying not to look like one.The tracker. He stood at the far end of the aisle, pretending to be fascinated by the nutrition facts on the back of a cereal box. But I could feel it. His aura wasn’t casual. It was sharp, focused, almost humming. He wasn’t just browsing. He was watching. He knew I was here. And he was definitely pretending not to notice me.I turned back toward the shelves, grabbed the first box of granola I could reach, and took a slow breath.Okay.Play it cool.I didn’t rush. I pushed my cart lazily down the aisle, pretending to look at cereal I didn’t care about. All while keeping my eyes on the edge of my vision. He didn’t move. But his shoulders were just a little too stiff. His breathing was too even. He was waiting for somethin
DANEI was half-watching the news while eating breakfast when Sierra burst into the kitchen.“Dane, you need to see this.”I turned the TV up as she started pulling dishes out of the cabinet. The anchor’s face was serious.“…Teen student Emily Hayes has been admitted to Riverbend Hospital under a mental health emergency. Authorities say she experienced a severe breakdown earlier today. School officials are working with her family…”Sierra cut it off, her hand on the remote. “They’re calling it a breakdown.”“They always do,” I muttered. “But we know better.”She looked at me. “Now Dane.”I nodded and grabbed my keys. The hospital lobby was quiet that morning, like the world outside hadn't quite woken up yet. The walls smelled faintly of bleach and coffee. A tired-looking nurse sat behind the reception desk, sipping from a paper cup. No one looked at me.I waited until the nurse glanced down, then brushed my hand across my face. The glamor shone brightly, my hair darkened to a sandy br
SIERRAThe hallways were filled with noise, footsteps pounding, doors slamming, voices shouting. I ran, dodging panicked students and teachers, my heart beating so loud I could barely think.Paramedics pushed past me with a stretcher.“Make way!”I pressed myself against the lockers, eyes scanning for her.“Lila!” I shouted. No answer.Another group of medics rushed by, wheeling a girl with her eyes closed, arms strapped down.Emily.She was pale. Her lips were slightly parted. I could see the faint shimmer of magic around her body, some kind of sedation spell. They were taking her away. The lockdown sirens died. Lights flickered back to normal. Principal Deaks barked orders over the intercom, trying to calm the chaos.I didn’t care.I needed to find Lila.I pushed through a cluster of students whispering, “She screamed like a monster.”“Did you see the blood?”“Was she cursed or something?”I ignored them. Finally, near the nurse’s office, I spotted her.“Lila!”She turned, her face
