Chapter 58

Ava's POV

I tried to lean on the wall, my hands trembling as I pressed my weight against it. The sharp, tearing pain in my back made my knees almost give way. My breath came short and fast, not because I was trying to breathe quickly but because each inhale made the pain worse.

It burned. Not a clean burn...not the kind you get from touching something hot and then pulling away... this was fucking more, like a knife had been buried in the muscles of my back and someone was twisting it in slow circles.

Death…death would be better than this. Death would mean release. Death would mean quiet. Death would mean no more counting the seconds until the next wave of agony hits. No more fear of when it will come back.
