"Mira, come back!"

Lena's scream tore across the ruins. She stood at the near end of the silver bridge with both hands braced against the glowing doorway, every muscle straining, her power pouring out through her palms like water through a cracked dam. Her sister was a small, straight figure far down the shining road, walking away without looking back.

"I can't leave the door!" Lena sobbed. "If I let go, it collapses!"

"Then don't let go!" Kane was at her shoulder, bleeding and filthy, his arms

"Eleven more," Lena repeated. The photograph shook slightly in Agent Reyes's hand. It showed the whole world in gray satellite grain, with a scatter of tiny red dots across every continent: one in the Norwegian mountains, one in the Peruvian Andes, one on the cold coast of Scotland, one in the middle of the Siberian taiga. And one, bright and angry, right over the dark hills of Oregon."Twelve in total," Reyes said. "Built by the first Moon Court. Each one sealed a piece of Lord Vael's power. Yours was the first to open.""First?" Victor said sharply."Last night. We saw it in the readings. Every vault on this map flared at once when the Binder said her word." Reyes tapped three of the dots with her fingernail. "These three are still hot. Siberia, Scotland, Peru. They've been awake for eleven hours. I don't believe that's a coincidence.""What's in them?" Lena asked."We don't know.""You don't know?""We have theories, Miss Hart. But the people who could have told us are dead."A col

"Turn it off," Lena said. "Poppy, turn it off.""I'm trying!" Poppy jabbed at the screen with both thumbs. "It won't let me! It says 'Are you sure you want to end your stream?' and I keep saying yes, and it keeps asking again!""Give it to me.""It's my phone!""It's a disaster!"Poppy handed it over. Lena pressed the red button, then the confirmation, then the red button again. The little LIVE dot flickered and went out. For one silent second, the whole circle of wolves stared at the dark screen. Then Poppy's phone started to ring. And Theo's phone. And Selene's. And Kane's. And Brask's ancient flip phone, which he pulled from his coat and held at arm's length like a snake."Oh, no," said Theo, reading his screen. "Oh, no. It's on every news site.""What's the headline?" Kane asked."'Werewolves? Live Footage Shows Mysterious Battle in Oregon Woods.'" He scrolled. "Here's another. 'The Silver Girl.' Oh, and this one: 'Who Is the Teenager with the Tire Iron?'""I'm famous!" Poppy sque

Her sister was a small, straight figure far down the shining road, walking away without looking back."I can't leave the door!" Lena sobbed. "If I let go, it collapses!""Then don't let go!" Kane was at her shoulder, bleeding and filthy, his arms around her waist as if he could hold her upright by force. "I've got you! Keep pushing!""She's going to die!""Not if we're fast enough!"At the far end of the bridge, Vael's shadow-wrapped body thrashed in the silver chains, dragging backward by inches. He had stopped screaming. Now he was laughing, a low, horrible giggle that carried across the gulf."How sweet," he called. "The Binder will hold the door, and in return, the door will hold her. Nine hundred years, my dear. You'll make wonderf

  • Mated To My Stepbrother    The Bridge Opens Again

Don't fight it. Listen.Lena couldn't move. The silver chains had locked every muscle in her body, even her tongue. She knelt in the dirt with her head bowed and her wrists pinned, and her whole world had shrunk to one cold, trembling thought.Mira?I'm here. Her sister's voice rang inside her skull, thin and shaky. I'm so sorry. I didn't have a choice. He had a gun on Mom.I know.I bound your body. Only your body. I left your mind alone. I left your voice. You just can't speak out loud. Why?Because chains are easier to open when you have somewhere to put the key. A pause. Look up.Lena couldn't turn her head. But she could move her eyes.Through a gap in the dust, she saw the guard behind Naomi. His rifle was pressed against the back of her mother's skull. His finger was white on the trigger, and his face was sweating. He was just a man. A hired man, who had signed on for money and was beginning to realize how badly the contract had gone.Poppy, Lena thought. Where's Poppy? On the

  • Mated To My Stepbrother    The Key In Her Hand

"Take off her irons," said Lord Vael. The words rang across the ruins, warm as honey. In Ronan's body, he lounged against the dark vault door, black-silver eyes half closed, looking like a man at a dinner party.Corvin stared at him. "My lord?""You heard me.""But the Breaker will...""The Breaker will do exactly what I ask." Vael smiled at Lena. "Won't you, child?""No.""You haven't heard the offer.""I don't need to.""Humor an old man." He walked toward her in Ronan's easy, loose stride, and stopped an arm's length away. The moon lit his face. He looked kind. That was the worst part. "There is one last seal on this door. The first twins set it with their own blood. Only a Breaker can break it. When it falls, I will walk freely in your world, and I'll have no more need for any of you.""You'd just leave?""I'll rule, of course. But gently." He tilted his head. "In exchange, I'll free every wolf bound tonight. Your Kane. Your mother. Your sister. You'll have your family back, whole

  • Mated To My Stepbrother    Blood On The Door

"Kane Draven," Ronan said. "Come here."Lena's heart stopped.Kane rose from the dirt like a man in a dream. His face was blank and pale, his golden eyes empty. He walked across the circle with slow, stiff steps and stopped in front of Ronan, his hands hanging at his sides."Kane!" Lena screamed. "Kane, look at me!""He can't hear you, my dear." Ronan plucked a thin silver knife from Corvin's belt and held it out. "He hears only me. Take it, boy."Kane's fingers closed around the hilt."Don't," Lena whispered. "Please, don't make him.""It's not a request." Ronan smiled. "The door needs blood. The Breaker's blood. You're in irons, so you can't refuse me, and I'm in a hurry. Kane, cut her palm and press it to the vault.""No!" Selene cried from the ground. She was shaking all over, her face wet with tears. "Father, no, he'll never forgive himself!""Then he shouldn't have walked into my trap." Ronan didn't even look at her. "Go on."Kane turned. He walked toward Lena with the knife gli
